chapter 17

The week though had started off on the note of an event, the college had other plans for the lot, as the time table for the internals came out. None of them were in any mood to go ahead and sit for studies, get into the whole study mood. Divya had made a small plan of her own for the studies she was sure for a good amount of time that this would work.

With a bright smile on her face she made her way back into the gates of college, though this was the second time she was getting in, it gave her a completely different feeling to get back in there into the closed confines. But she would be lying if she had to say that she won't miss this place after a few months.

Walking up towards the cupboards she kept the boxes that were in her hand into them and then walked towards the classroom she didn't really had anything to do as such and decided it was better to go and attend the lectures,, however , even before she could open the door, Ms. Tawadia walked out of the class and said,

"Ohh Divya, why weren't you there for the lectures?"

Divya smiled sheepishly at the professor who as well had a small smile and walking towards the staffroom, once reaching the door she turned around and waited for Divya to reply, "Ma'am Milange has its social event going on, I was there." The professor nodded her head and walked inside all the while wishing her best for the events, leaving Divya behind to contemplate whether these professors were for real or not?

The class had quite a conflicting aura around with the regular students picking up their bags as Kavya and her group waved their hands at her, which was as well baffling. Smiling at them she made her way towards Simran who was seated in their regular place along with Rohit and Nandini.

"Don't we have lectures?" Divya asked as she sat on the desk in front of the bench that was occupied by the rest.

"Nah, Sir won't be coming today, it just now got canceled." Simran explained smiling at her.

"I don't understand what this college has against me. The day I decide to sit for lectures they get canceled. "

"That's actually good, you should come to lectures daily." Rohit commented as they stood up and began walking towards the door.

"where are you all going?"

"Nagori ... come." Nandini extended her hand as Divya quickly took hold of it and the two began walking with Divya's hand wrapped around Nandini's shoulder, Nandini slouching down due to all the weight on her, Simran and Rohit stautered ahead, their destination the small tea stall at the end of the college road. Somehow much to everyone's surprise even the Sys were done with their lectures, it took them about a great number of minutes as they made their way through the busy corridors of the college.

Seemingly certain things are always a habit as they all went ahead and stood around in a circle, Edwin took it upon himself to ask everyone what was it that they preferred to have, and placed their order. The rest, with Nandini, Kabeer, and Rohit fighting over who would stand leaning over the car, Divya watching them with a bored look, as Simran and Rohan being busy in their own conversation. Divya indicated the two of them to come to where they were standing as Simran with a sly smile walked up to her and looped her hands with divya.

"what is it?" she asked.

Divya smiled at her and said, "Did you start preparing for the exam?"

"I thought I would but then I couldn't, today maybe I will start with it."

"what are you guys talking about?" Nandini enquired, her attention completely on the two of them, as she pushed Rohit aside and stood firmly with her back rested by the car, her hands folded by her chest.

Not many times things had been out of Nandini's knowledge, rather Divya and she had been a source of information for a lot of things for each other. Yet Divya knew Nandini a bit more to know her next action, and she was about to explain the situation when she cried out.

"OHH noo, you guys always do this, leave me out of the most important conversation...what you guys are best friends now isn't it?" the whole group stood there watching the drama unfold, though each one of them knew that none of the words that were spoken by her were serious but surely it would get to another notch if a well deserving explanation wasn't there on the way.

As Divya along with Simran struggled to answer, The boys waited almost in anticipation, Rohit as well had guts to speak in between as he said, "Don't tell me Divya you have a new boyfriend about whom you are telling to simran?.. Nandini I am telling you last week I had seen the two of them discussing about some boy...what was his name?"

Divya gawked at him as he continued to sprout stupid gibberish with Nandini narrowing her eyes on them, taking up on the stupid bait that he was laying for her.

"Shut up Rohit, you tell me what is this whole drama of yours with Anjali, I saw the two of you yesterday you guys were pretty into each other... somewhat explaining some topics or like that, you never explained as such to us." Divya pointed out as the topic then shifted to him. from the corner of her eyes she exchanged a look with simran who as well winked at her.

"why should I explain anything to you, you are already a scholar." Rohit clarified.

"ohh really? That doesn't really make sense it's not necessary that I might not have any doubts...what if I had a doubt, you never even asked me or Simran, or Nandini or any one of us ever if we needed any help..right Nandu?"

"I know right, when it comes to Anjali he is ever ready Anjali needs to talk to me Anjali's lecture is over I need to go with her at the Frankie point, when its Anjali you are not ever bothered about your pubg...like woaah, Now Anjali is soo important than us and even more so than your PUBG Matches." Nandini Snapped at him as the rest a\supported her.

However it was quite hilarious. With Nandini being her 5 feet self, and Rohit almost 5'7, 5'8 it was as if a kid was scolding an elder. Her hair that was open swayed about with the wind, her small light blue colored bag rested well on her shoulder, and her nose, it scrunched everytime she was to scold someone. The moment she was to tell off Rohit she would rub her nose and wave her hands in front of him, punch in his stomach and then walk away from there with her hands folded just below her chest.

She looked cute.

The rest kept on snickering as Rohit began pacifying her . Soon the hot cups of tea arrived along with Simran's coffee as they continued to gossip around. It was around 5 in the evening when Divya decided it was time to go.

"Guys I will take a leave now." Simran waved at her as Divya went and hugged her a bye, along with the rest of them and walked off towards the railway station.

But that wasn't just the end of the day, as while on the way to home a new message was dropped into her inbox. The destination for IV was Finalized, with Jim Corbett, Massori and Hrishikesh being the destinations. Divya was very happy. Though Jim Corbett wasn't her ideal location and nor did she know about it much, surely Hrishikesh and Mussorie were one great spot that she looked upto.

*******

It was the evening before their exams and Divya was busy studying when her phone rang. It was simran she smiled into the phone as she picked up the call, her hand busy underlying some important points that she found in the answer that might help her later on when she would be revising the next morning.

"Hey, Did you start with Fleet Operations?" Simran asked.

"yes I did..." Divya looked at her notes that were a bit scattered around and let out a huff and said, "actually I just started it, and I have already skipped one question."

She heard Simran chuckling at the other end and couldn't help laugh as well. It wasn't as if the portion was difficult, it was just that the way the notes were made were a bit difficult for her as well to memorise.

"I think I will just understand these notes and then write in my own words. I can't go memorizing it at this moment. I am yet to start with Tourism Management." Divya said.

"Even I... acha, could you please explain to me question number 3?"

Divya looked into the lists of questions that they were provided with for the exam, and smiled. "You are lucky I just did that... umm simran, are you done with other questions?"

"Not really I need to revise them three more times, else I won't be comfortable with it."

"alright then, let's do this. I will explain to you all the questions, that way it will be easy for me to learn as well." Divya then turned the call to a whatsapp voice call and then for the next 2 hours the two of them sat revising and studying Fleet operations for the first time that semester. Divya was as well a bit surprised the kind of information this subject had. It was a bit tricky at some points; she herself had to go back to the sentences more than three times and then explain it to simran. By the time they were done, It was time for Divya to have her dinner. She bid a quick bye and went off to have her dinner.

For the next three days the two of them had a similar schedule. At times it would change a bit, but there were the mornings, the mornings that were filled with headaches, that would lead to a series of yellings, a lot of confusion and finally on the second day Nandini had given up on the boys.

"I am done with you all, Divya, let's go back to the class. I am yet to learn a few more answers." Diya smiled at them and packed her bags and went inside. Though she was anxious, it was Saturday the second day of their exams and she had to submit her money for the IV and her dad hadn't transferred the amount into her account yet. As usual he might have either completely forgotten about it or was way too busy to even go and transfer the amount.

"My dad hasn't transferred the money for IV yet, I am worried, I just hope that he sends it before the day comes to an end." Divya said as she dialed her father's number.

"Thank God you told me that you haven't received the money yet...acha listen,I don't know if you know about it yet or not but the boys trying to cancel this IV and go unofficially may be to Nepal or somewhere like that. Manav has got an itinerary, I will show it to you later on." Divya nodded her head absentmindedly and made her way out of the room as she didn't receive any network there. The task to make her way out was quite tedious, however with quite a difficulty she finally reached the BTM garden where Aman and the rest of the boys were busy teaching Dev something or the other. It made her wonder what was it that was left now..the exam that they had today wasn't that difficult, but then again, one needs to atleast study something prior to not do these last minute cramping.

Divya was anxiously making calls when she felt a tap on her shoulder and the moment she turned around she felt as if she had forgotten how it was that one was supposed to breath.

"Is it your boyfriend?" Madhav asked as he peeped into her phone trying to see the caller id. Divya snatched her phone aside, and found herself to be staring at him for quite a while. Madhav stood there in his usual boyish aura, his t-shirt a bit out of place, that blue and red and white striped polo T- shirt, with his hair combed and set with his fingers; his bag that hung on his one shoulder that he supported with his hand, and that smile of his which always indicated mischief. She knew there was something on his mind with the fact that he was here all smiling and looking at her phone, but there was a problem he had an effect on her, and he looked quite handsome even cute to her. It made her wonder when was the first time that she found him to be cute ? She knew if she were to mention this to Nandini she would surely agree that Madhav was cute but in that friendly way...and she would surely gag when she were to know the reasons that Divya had in her mind for him being cute. She wanted to laugh but Madhav snapped his hands in front of her and brought her out of her thoughts.

The instant she looked at him, she felt the dire need to take a deep breath and calm her nerves down. Now that she was finally seeing him after about 2 days, did Divya realize how she missed him. never had she thought that seeing him all of a sudden would be so shocking. She wasn't prepared to face like this.,..without any kind of announcement.

"Don't you have an exam?" she asked, making her way towards the tree and sitting down amongst the boys dialing once again her eyes still on Madhav who was wiggling his eyebrows at her. Madhav smiled at her sheepishly as Diyva huffed, quite irritated as the call did not connect once again.

"what is it?" Aman's voice startled Divya a bit as she looked up from her phone and smiled at him her attention then went to Dev who was seated beside Aman and was mugging up something and making faces, all the while she couldn't help but feel Madhav's presence around her...it made her feel giddy and nervous, she wanted to make sure that her actions were cautious, she didn't wanted to make a fool of herself, and only prayed to God that Madhav wouldn't trouble her.

"My dad, he isn't picking up his call nor is Parth answering his." She then pointed at Dev and asked "but what's wrong with him?"

"this idiot is not able to understand the trade functions." Rishi said and began guffawing. Trade functions were one of the easiest answers, yet he was not able to contemplate it. Divya tried her best to suppress her laughter and then finally said, "shall I explain it to you?"

"I would like to know how much you score in this subject," Madhav's taunting voice halted whatever it was that Dev was about to say, " or else better just meet me and tell me how was your exam after you came out... I don't believe her." Madhav then poked Divya's hand with his foreigner. It wasn't a swift manner rather a pace that was well welcomed and balanced at which Divya picked up the notes and looked at Madhav and gave him a menacing smile of her own.

"Get lost."

"Aww don't you have a better comeback?"

"Madhav, I was really having a nice day until I met you...look don't make me open my mouth leave...just leave from here." Divya's attention then went off to the rest of them as they sat back quite relaxed as if they were watching a movie.

"Dev shall we continue or you will manage it on your own?" Dev nodded quickly, as Atharva took it upon himself to get Madhav out of there, and while divya began skimming through the pages to the one that she wanted, she couldn't help but steal a glance at Madhav, and then keep on staring after him as his figure disappeared in the huge crowd. She could feel the small smile that was there on her lips which she quickly hid by biting her lips, her heart was beating at an irregular speed. This was exciting. She thought. This, the little petty fights that she had with Madhav, with her warning and sprouting off statements that actually made him go silent, she liked it all... just the way she liked him.

*******

The exam for that day had surprisingly gone well for all of them, though Dev was yet to come out from his class, but she knew nothing much could be expected of him. their whole class was gathered by the BTM garden and were waiting for people to come and for Ms. Jain to drop in the message for the location where the meeting could be held.

However, for Divya things were different. She felt a bit bad, even guilty for the way she spoke with Madhav. She knew she wouldn't say sorry to him, but she realized she should have just let it be and not reacted the way she did. How many more days were left as it is for them to joke around and trouble each other? She thought. With each passing day the days for their exams were coming close and then the two, rather all of them would be walking off to different paths. Her eyes wandered off to the whole group, with Nandini, Rohit, and few other classmates of hers laughing about cracking jokes, on the other side Aman and Rishi were busy tearing away the question paper, Atharva was as usual watching what everyone was doing, Natasha who had as well joined them and was talking with Geet. It made her a bit claustrophobic, Divya couldn't comprehend why she felt so at this moment, but she wanted to get away from there.

Walking upto Natasha she said, "I need to go to the health room, there is some work regarding Milange, just call me when you all go for the meeting... I will be there right beside the staffroom." Natasha nodded her head as Divya walked away from there. Though she was partially right, she did had work, from 18 they were starting with Adventure and she didn't had any idea what was to be done...she as well had to take updates on the same from Madhav... that thought made her smile a bit, may it wasn't that bad after all to leave everyone be and walk up towards where she could actually find Madhav.

The possibility of spending time with Madhav be it even for the sake of work...while ditching out her friends made her feel guilty on the part of her friends. However shaking away her thoughts she finally made it to the medical room and was a bit disappointed to find it filled with almost everyone who would be there always except for Madhav.

"Hey Divya, How was the exam?" Meher asked as she patted the space beside her. Removing her bag, she lifted up a bit as she made her way from the little space that was there in the room and sat beside Meher. Vivek and Tushar as usual were making some or the other list, there was even Jyoti who was busy on her phone and then there was some new comer, and Meher...but no sign of Madhv, and nor could she ask anyone about him.

"It was great, how about you two?" Divya asked, as she eyed Meher and Jyoti, who smiled back at her sarcastically and said, "we would just make it through...that's more than enough."

Soon the conversation moved on to various topics, from competitive exams to gossips about new celebs to vivek ranting out about his members and what not, when all of a sudden the door banged open and Madhav walked in, and somehow Divya had thought maybe this time...this time when she would be seeing him for the second time in the day, she wouldn't be thi shocked, she wouldn't really feel those giddy feelings nor would her heart beat loudly, and she would look at him straight in the eye, and smile at him as he would, and talk with him... just talk and not fight...

Alas she couldn't. rather she began shifting in her place, took out her phone and began fiddling with it, and when Madhav said Hi to everyone and went and hugged Jyoti from behind, she felt her heart almost falling down. It seemed so stupid to her, but she found herself shifting back, even almost getting down from the heighted medical bed, and walking right out of the door from where she walked in, but she couldn't...rather she sat there still fiddling looking right back at the two of them going all lovey dovey...with Madhav calling her baby and Jyoti replying back in similar cute accent somewhat an expression of surprise astonishment was lingered around her face, but she was smiling... whereas Divya could feel her head swaming with numeroud of questions...if it would have possible and seen through the anime programs that her sister watched...there would have been question marks and exclamation marks hanging on her head.

She found herself chuckling and feeling jealous at the same time. Divya looked at Madhav then at Jyoti and then at Meher the two shared a look yet kept quite witnessing all the stupid antics that Madhav was going on with. It felt like hours for Divya with her utmost attempt at not going ahead and killing Madhav there and then, when finally madhav had, had his share of fun and stood up and asked her to shift a bit so that he could sit on the couch. Adhering to him Divya shifted and was busy observing what vivek was doing when all of a sudden it struck her,

"Madhav, Jyoti...what is the scene with Adventure?'

"Oh yes I forgot you were the event admin we were supposed to inform you as well." Madhav smiled sheepishly at her and adjusted his hair once again.

"I am here, now tell me." Divya replied as she looked at both of them. She saw the way Jyoti indicated to Madhav to go ahead and explain whatever it was that they had planned. The next few minutes Madhav spent explaining what all needed to be done and how it was to be done. When he was finally done, he received a call and walked out of the room along with his bag. It seemed both Vivek and Divya had their coasts clear as the moment Madhav was out they asked,

"are the two of you dating?'

"Ohh noo!!" Jyoti laughed aloud as she shifted in her seat, and shared a look with Meher. The two were from the same course but surely didn't fall into the category of being called friends, and that look was quite questionable. "We are not dating That Madhav,, he is crazy and an idiot at the same time." Divya nodded her head and kept on looking at Jyoti who smiled at her.

The answer Divya didn't realize what she would take about as Rightful or more questionable. Divya was still contemplating over it when She saw Natasha peeping in; she waved at her and jumped down and bid bye and walked off for the meeting.

The meeting that was called out for discussing the IV was meant to be peaceful, but with the boys and the professors being there it had turned into a fit of taunting session. One blow towards the students, which someone or the other would sly back through jokes. The tension was surely high and all Divya had hoped was for this whole thing to be done once for all. But leaving from one mess meant walking into another.

One hour later when Divya was done studying Maths from Rohit, she saw the whole mob of Boys walking in with Aman and Nandini making their way towards her.

"see you know all the happenings that were going on regarding the IV, we thought first we would rebel and get it done unofficial because obviously we hadn't signed in for the places that she is taking us to." Aman stopped to look at each one of them seated there to know whether they were with him or not. Once they nodded their head he continued. "But now things are really serious. if it would have been exams or even the internals we would have managed. We were almost admapt on the unofficial IV and even everyone's parents had agreed; however just now I had a word with her and trust me this time she is serious."

"what did she say?" Rishi asked. Aman nodded his head at him and was about to reply when the door of the classroom opened and Madhav walked in, this time as well Divya felt herself shifting in her place, as she shook her head and decided it was best to focus.

"see what I mean right now is, what is more important for all of you?" aman enquired

"for me right now what matters is to go with you all." Divya replied,

"Yes that's what even we all were thinking. See this is the last trip that we all have together especially really important for me and the boys, three months down the lane Madhav would go back home, Rishi will leave for Pune , Manav, we hardly get hold of him, I can't even guarantee if we would meet after college or if he might even remember us... and Me, Atharva and Dev we have our own things to be done I am sure even you girls would have a similar thing going on."

Divya looked at Simran, Nandini and Natasha and the three smiled at each other. Of Course things were similar. She didn't know what was it that she was going to do with her life ahead would she really take up that UPSC or any government exam or go ahead working on her story or work at some corporate office with the mundane 9 to 5 job. Of Course she had given a thought to this. The very moment the topic of IV was out she had been thinking about it.

The last year when she had gone a trip alone she had thought that would be a life changing moment for her, she wanted to capture each and every moment of her trip, but the problem was she was dead tired from the events that she had been handling around since the two months before her trip, and now finally she had a chance again.

A chance to give a chance to a new set of friendship no matter if it were to last for the month of 3 months or those 10 days when they were going to be on a trip... her last chance to experience being friends with Madhav to spend as much of time that she could with him. she knew he would never reciprocate any of the feelings that she had for him, but there was one thing she could do.,.. she could be a friend to him, try and see what kind of connection she could make with him.

"I agree." Divya smiled at Aman as he continued

"So when I went to talk to maam she clearly said that we should go for IV, but then be ready to face the consequences. Now the thing is if it were exams it would have still worked out because it's ultimately not her but the university...however she has one biggest thing in her hand...our Black books, she will create issues when it will come to that."

"So finally what have you all decided to do?" Nandini asked.

"according to me I think we all should go for this IV, for at the end of the day what matters is us going together...I believe if we all are together we will surely make the trip happening." Everyone agreed to what Aaman had to say and finally it was decided that they would be going for the IV where it was decided by the faculties.

Soon the lists were made, people made calls, and things proceeded. Everything moved on so quickly that Divya couldn't even comprehend. She had quickly framed the message which was circulated around in the group
