Chapter 36

Divya wished this wouldn't have been the seating arrangement, yet she was glad it was so. After the whole fiasco with Manav and Atharva she was skeptical about a lot of things, few being why were the two of them so silent, secondly the absence of Dev and 4th being the way Madhav was being so cozy with her.

Divya took a deep breath and wandered a lazy eye around everyone and then stopped at Natasha and Nandini who were smiling at her.She wished she would have really enjoyed this moment but at that particular time her heart was heavy with fear and nervousness and happiness and excitement and anxiety.

"Divya pull up that blanket a bit." Madhav said and once again rested his head on her shoulder. This time she could feel him even closer to her, his hair tickling her cheeks as she could feel them getting warm, his hands held hers together trying to warm them from the icy coldness that they were in due to the weather outside and the two of them wrapped in a blanket their legs spread out and intertwined in each other.

This wasn't how normal two friends sat, she knew that, but she couldn't say anything. She had lost her mind for sure and the vodka that Aman was making sure that everyone would have had started to kick in.

"Divya your turn one more sip." Aman said.

"I told you earlier I am not drinking anymore."

"I will have it, give it to me." Madhav said. And took away the bottle from Aman's hand and took two sips out of it.

'Is this some kdrama? Dude Madhav don't do this.' Divya thought as she looked at Natasha and Nandini and the other two kept on smiling like that of a cheshire cat.

"Alright let's play a game." Manav said as Madhav stood up once again. This time he wanted to go to the washroom. He instructed that no one was to sit in his place by claiming it tappu tappeese, a term that Dev had made everyone familiar with on the trip and had become a habit of theirs.

"What game?" Nandini asked.

"So we will tell you the name of a guy and if you have to tell us what would you do if they were to ask you on a date." Manav looked at each one of them as Divya stared at Natasha and Nandini, quite scared as she knew what was about to happen. She only wished that by the time her chance would come Madhav wouldn't come here.

"Alright let's start.' Manav began with Aman asking him about different girls than about the girls with whom they were talking about before they got settled, moving on through the group they reached Natasha as everyone asked. \

"Dev?"

"No, I would never ask her out." Dev muttered as everyone cursed him and Manav asked Again.

"Dev?"

"Well I wouldn't have mind earlier, but right now I am not interested." Divya and Nandini looked at each other along with Simran and asked, "How about Shiv?" The way Natasha's eyes grew made the girls laugh loudly but soon Divya chuckles died down in her stomach as Madhav walked back.

Divya could feel the frustration building up within her and her heart beating loudly. If only he could have waited for a few more minutes. It would have been so much better, after Natasha it was her chance and yet he is here back.

"Okay now Madhav. "

"What are we playing?"

"My death game." Divya muttered under her breath and was lucky that none heard other than Natasha and Nandini who were closely observing her.

"So we will call out a few names, you are to tell us, that if these girls were to ask you on a date would you go or not?" Madhav sat still for a moment and nodded his head as each of the boys brought out different names.

For a moment there Divya was glad that her name was not out, there were a lot of people, some were those whom Divya knew and it pierced her heart each time he said a yes and relief would flood through her body as he would say no. by the time the whole group was done with names Divya had completely relaxed and was all ready up for the game when Manav in a serious voice said,

"I have a last name.... tell me how about divya?" A buzz fell about the berth, one uncle had found it to be the right time to go to the washroom, another child began crying, Dev had some serious issues with the pizza not being available at that time, Natasha and Nandini arguing about their booze and Divya stood there still. Her heart had stopped beating as she tried to act as natural as she possibly could.

"Areee chup, Madhav tell us, what would be your answer if Divya was to propose to you for a date?"

Madhav thought for a while as Divya played with the blanket, fought with Aman over the sprite bottle as if it was some theoretical question that Madhav was about to answer.

"Maybe." Madhav said, That one single word hung around for a while as everyone took it in. but the very moment he said that Nandini and Natasha jumped in their seats squeaking as Divya glared at them asking them to shut up. It seemed they were hell bent on exposing her at that moment. It was as if all the little coverups that she could have made were all lost with the excitement that they showed at the moment.

"Okay next Divya, Madhav?"

"dude kya?" Divya asked, flabbergasted at the straightforwardness that the guys showed. Everyone had their attention on her as she contemplated what she was supposed to say? But she didn't let her mind dwell on it, it was as if she was giving a scholarship exam and was bored of all the long stupid questions that were falling in as she said, "Maybe, if he does then I might say yes." And as casually as she could she shrugged her shoulders.

The boys then asked a few names and then Nandini began with her names. It seemed she wanted to embarrass Divya from head to toe as she spelled out all the names that she had only made them know about. Never had Divya thought that this game would end up with everyone getting 100 reasons to tease her in future.

"And That Abhinav or something..."

"Dude that's a No big no."

However as the game moved on to Simran who was seated beside her and when she replied maybe the game fell back going back to Madhav making him say a yes... coming back to Divya making her say a yes.

And no matter how much she made her heart and mind understand that this was just a game, she couldn't help but be ecstatic. No matter what it felt good to know that Madhav could actually consider them being together be it even for the sake of a game but he at least did.

Divya had thought that possibly that would be the end of it, but Madhav had something else in his mind as he proposed yet another game... "KILL, MARRY and HOOKUP"

"Is it really necessary to play this game?" Divya asked him.

"yes it is, don't be a spoil sport." While the two were arguing and Divya munched on her icecream with her eyebrows furrowed and lips pouted, with Madhav's head on her shoulder his left hand hooked in her right under the blanket Atharva took a picture of the two and shared it around the group through Snap chat. Divya didn't know what was going around as Nandini and Natasha whispered and Madhav himself looked into it and began smiling.

"what is it?" Divya asked.

"check your snapchat."

"Well news flash I don't use one."

"Sorry the snap just went by,I can't reload it." Divya let out a huge huff and looked expectantly at Nandini and Natasha who as well shook their heads. But there was Dev as he spoke loudly,

"Ohh these are our Madhav and Divya... and what's this.. ohh hoo, do dil mil rahe hai magar chupke chupke.. ohh Hoooo kyaa baat."

"Dev shut up.."

"Dude don't worry, your brother is really nice,I have taken a screenshot, Atharva from next time onwards share these things on our whats app group not on snap chat."

And it was from there that the whole photo session began, first Nandini started it by taking quick snaps of Madhav and Divya, then it was Dev and then Atharva once again. It was as if everyone was up to something when Madhav wasn't really into it.

He was getting drunk minute by minute and then when the kill marry hook up game came, the boys played the dirtiest game.

"You have three names, Pooja, Megha(Your ex) and Divya."

There was utter silence around each one of them guessing as to who will go for what and Divya knew she was to end up with kill, the two other girls were the ones Madhav had had a good past, not the ugly one but a pleasant one where he was invested in for a good amount of time and had good amount of interest in. but his answer shocked her, making her go numb for a moment.

"Okay I will give a more of a practical answer... kill Mehga, Hookup Pooja... and Marry Divya." The way the whole group hooted about had scared the shit out of Divya, she was shocked she couldn't believe the words that he said. And had to chant again and again in her mind that

This is just a game.

"you next Divya." Manav said as divya got back to her senses and asked for the bottle of water. She needed to get a grip of herself. She couldn't trust herself to say anything at that moment but the delicious way her body felt all relaxed and tension free was something it was then she realized how much Madhav's answer mattered to her.

"Okay for you, Nadini you give the names."

"Oaky, so Madhav, Abhinav, parth."

"Dude Parth doesn't make sense... if it were Sid I would have said something." Divya argued.

"who is parth?" Manav asked.

"Her supposedly neighbor, but I have doubts he has hots for her." Nandini said.

"It's nothing like that, change the name."

"No, no, the name won't change, tell us." Aman argued as Divya thought about it. And the more she thought about it, it seemed senseless. This time the fact that Madhav's name was there and where it was to be placed didn't matter to her, it made her worried where she was to place Parth. She had never thought of him other than a friend and to group him as marriage material or a hookup or the fact that she could kill him disturbed her.

She thought it was better to act carelessly and answered, "Kill Abhinav, Hookup Parth and marry Madhav."

"dude parth hookup, like seriously I am so proud of you... that's one catch there for a hookup but I would have preferred if you would have gone to marry him."

"ohh over madhav... who is this guy?" Dev asked.

"no one special let's move on to the next person shall we?" Divya said as Manav nodded his head and then began asking others, however, divya was feeling completely drunk and exhausted and bored. Every time her name would be listed all had one response "Marry - Divya" even the younger ones would have the same reply and it somehow made her feel appalled by the game all together.

As Dhawal said Marry - Divya, divya pulled up her blanket and muttered, "Yeah, right over here I am getting into a Polyandry" Irritated she rested her head on her right, over Madhav's head who was listening to her and chuckled himself.

"Quite a fan following you got there."

"One I didnt even ask for.. Can we get done with this game?|"

"Ohh wait Rugved is left" Divya stood up immediately, her eyes wide as saucers. She immediately looked at her left to see Manav reaching out to him. She couldn't help but wonder the kind of mess he is going to create now.

****

As the night went by the whole group became even more cosier with Aman once again passing about the bottle of Vodka Sanket and other boys discussing the supernatural spirits and the stories of ghosts. Divya shifted herself towards the window, her left hand's wrist had the huge weight of Madhav's watch. Divya shifted it up towards her wrist admiring it as the others were busy in their lazy talks.

She reminisized that not so special moment when Madhav had given it to her. He wanted to keep it in his bag and his bag was nowhere to be found. He had then given it to Divya who had worn it in her hand as she had always loved Mens watches, especially the one like Madhav's.

"You know I always feel that people have this weird connection with each other. Like my nephew, he has this power over all of us, there would be difficult times or we would be fighting and then one word from him and we would all go silent." Madhav's comment brought Divya out of her thoughts as their eyes met and Divya nodded her head.

She remembers this being discussed between them. Madhav and his nephew were something that had made Divya very surprised.

" I understand, my nephew was born on the same day when my cousin's grandfather had died and it's so weird as to how similar he is to his great grandfather. The same features the same attitude and aura. It's quite mesmerizing." Divya commented.

Her eyes then wandered off to everyone. It was funny the way they all were seated. The upper berth in the corridor seat was taken by Rishi as he slept like a log, on the berth under it Dahaval, Rahul, Atharva, Geet sat right in front of them on the floor two of their juniors sat, where Divya sat near the window beside her was Dev, beside him was Simran and then Aman, right opposite to him on the other berth was Sanket, beside him was Madhav than Nandini and then Rashi opposite to Divya at the window. Beside Aman was one of her classmates who was standing as there was no place left to sit anywhere.

"My Sister's marriage was one of the worst scenes in our life. She had a spirit within her. So on her wedding day the moment she was to get married there was a huge blunder, there was a storm and the whole house was destroyed. They had to perform a lot of poojas and all."

Sanket kept on telling different stories that were related to his sister and then Atharva started as DIvya told them stories about Artha road bridge and many more stories at times Madhav would talk in between as and when Atharva and Divya would speak in Marathi using references he wouldn't understand and then Aman would once again pass around the bottle.

It was around 3:30am that divya started to get that feeling. She was already feeling it but at that moment realizing it was just 2 and a half hours left for their journey to get over she couldn't help it. Her eyes would go back to Madhav time and again, she held onto his watch as if he was going away and she began thinking if two days later things would be the same at all or not.

"Alright this is the last one everyone take a sip." Aman forwarded the bottle of Vodka as it reached divya she refused, to which Aman took hold of her hand and made her drink it forcefully. The ones she had, had until now were still minor and were completely fine but this one was way stronger than what she had ever had.

"Ugh, that was strong. I have to go back home." Divya complained.

"So do us, chill it won't get you drunk." Aman teased as he took his seat while Sanket once again began telling his story and it then struck Divya that it was 4 one look at Madhav she knew it was better to sleep than to sit here and keep on letting her thoughts go haywaya.

"I guess we should sleep." The moment she said this Madhav stood up in agreement as Sanket said, "but my story?" The pout that he gave made Divya feel a bit guilty but she ignored it and said, next time.

There was complete silence as everyone looked at her, as if she had grown two horns and then did she realize what she said, next time.

A trip like this was never going to come back. Within a few days everyone would be out to some other place doing things that none of them would hear from their mouth, rather through the stories of Instagram or through gossip. There would be so many plans made and destroyed and what not.

Madhav, nandini began gathering their pillows as Divya claimed her seat with a tappu tapies, Nandini insisted on sleeping with her as she was scared with all the tales that were going around.

While dev adjusted his bed Divya went and sat on Madhav's seat as he looked at her, gave her a smile and said, "Give me my watch, I will be sleeping now and won't be waking up till the station comes."

Her hands shivered as she handed over the rolex watch back to him. she wanted to keep it with herself just for a few more minutes, maybe till the time he would fall asleep, so that it would stay with her for all the little while till he would be reminded about it yet again. But she couldn't. He was persistent, the same person he had always been, and they had eyes around them. she was not supposed to have this watch in her hand in the very first place.; but then nor was she supposed to act this emotional as well. she knew there was no going ahead with this...whatever that this was but she did. She took it ahead in her own imaginary world when she knew she was walking on the path which had a diversion ahead... such that it would never meet again.

As the watch landed in his hand, she found herself saying "can I keep it with me till morning?" her voice sounded so weird to her own ears. She wondered why the hell she was behaving the way she was. This was so stupid and just so not her.

"No, I might leave it with you, I don't want to lose this one." And then he was gone, while the rest continued with their work, she took hold of my blankets and sat back in the seat that she had so successfully got for herself. Within just 2 hours things would change, they would be back to their regular lives. She will have to go back to the same Divya Chavan that she was three months back, whereas Madhav... She didn't know what and who he was before they met but she knew now they knew each other to a completely different level then the one she had known him for the first time.

Taking up the pillow that nandini offered to her, Divya laid down as nandini came and slept beside her, the lights turning off, as Divya peeped from above Nandini's head, where Madhav now slept already in a deep slumber. Divya knew he wouldn't wake up in the morning...none would yet she fished someone did, somehow he did wake up to bid her bye, to promise her that she would still have a friend that she had now found, and as sleep took over her, Divya felt herself smiling... the small clippings of the day they met and the things that happened after that running through her thoughts like that of a movie, and she was glad these three months happened, she didn't know what the future held for her, but this was just perfect.
