Chapter 1
His eyes were cold but curious as he stared down at her. "You have no idea who I am, do you?"
"My history partner?" A quizzical yet slightly alarmed Alexa answered.
He gave off a dark chuckle as his eyes turned a dark crimson shade; his eyes glowed in the dimly lit room adding more to the menacing atmosphere that seemed to be radiating off of him, "Silly girl," he mocked, just as his body morphed into an almost transparent being.
Alexa gasped at the new form her partner had taken. Her insticts immediately kicked in and she ran for dear life, she made the stupid mistake of turning back, and to her utter horror he was right behind her, she let out an ear splitting scream when-
"Lost signal!" Flashed across the screen.
Dissapointed grunts filled the entire sitting room lounge, "The movie was just getting to the good part!" Emily whined from the floor, her golden locks looking a shader darker and her green eyes looking defeated.
"I'm so sorry guys, I don't know what happened," Opal profusely apologized to her 5 friends, who were gazing at her with annoyance, all but one friend that is.
Opal tried to get the movie playing again, but to no avail, this seemed to further agitate a certain indiviadual.
"Well do something, we have to finish the movie!" Jordan yelled frantically, her voice laced with worry.
"What's got you so worked up?" Amanda couldn't help but ask, her brown eyes staring quizzically at Jordan, while she worked to braid her auburn hair.
"Because of the legend!" Jordan answered, only to receive bored expressions, "Not this again!" Brenda combed her hands through her black hair in frustration, her blue eyes shut in exasperation.
Savannah giggled at the two sisters, and beckoned everyone around her, "I know it too, so I'll be happy to tell," she cleared her throat as everyone huddled around her, "The legend of the Survive movie states that whoever has watched this movie without ever finishing it has been killed by the phantom itself. Appatently, this movie is a gateway that releases the gateway to the land of the dead, where the phantom is imprisoned. Whoever watches this movie releases the being, finishing the movie is locking him back up in his realm, but not finishing the movie results in the death of whoever was foolish enough to release him, and he can take the appearance and form of anyone or anything." She ended her story, her black eyes and dark hair adding effect to the ghostly story.
Opal, Jordan and Emily were fearful after hearing the forewarning but Savannah, Amanda and Brenda were indifferent as they did not believe in it.
That night, the girls woke up to a scream from downstairs only to have their stomach's turn once they reached the kitchen to the sight of their mutilated friend, Emily, lying on the floor, her guts spilled, chest wide open, showcasing her inner organs and a bloody 'P' written near her body.
"Oh my gosh it's the Phantom!" Jordan wailed frantically, "We should've finished that movie," the three non-believers scorned at her, "Don't be ridiculous," they mocked.
Instead, they went to do the most logical thing which was to inform the police, only to find that the phone was disconnected. They tried all other electronics, but to no avail, even the doors and windows were suddenly locked.
Fear griped the hearts of every girl as they grow more and more frantic trying to find a way out of Opal's house, the worst part of it all was that the girl's had chosen for the sleepover to be on the night that Opal's parents were absent.
"The phantom is coming for us; we are all going to die! Somebody help us, the phantom is going to kill us all!" Jordan yelled, while her body was help in a fetal position on the floor.
"Snap out of it Jordan! We can't base this off of some ridiculous fairy tale," Brenda yelled, grabbing a fistful of Jordan's shirt, yanking her up, and slapping her hard across the face, "Someone just got murdered here and we don't know if the murderer is still in the house or not, and we have no way of contacting anyone, let alone getting out. So stop being a superstitious crybaby and come back to the real world!" She yelled, eyes blazing with anger.
Brenda forcefully released Jordan, but did not get the anticipated reaction.
Jordan's expression turned sour, her whole body shook from unreleased rage, and her red hair almost seemed like a red flame that combusted spontaneously along with her grey eyes; she looked like someone lethal, deadly almost.
"You're the one who needs to wake up Brenda! There are too many illogical things here. Don't you wonder how someone could kill and do all this in a matter of seconds! She screamed a few moments ago, if the killer was human, Emily would've been still somewhat alive for a few moments before eventually bleeding out, this happened all to fast to be done by a human being!" Jordan's words caused Brenda to stumble a bit.
She was right, heck, they would've even heard or atleast seen a glimpse of the killer in this case, "B-but, I mean, t-there has to be another explanation-"
"You know what, I don't need this!" Jordan turned to leave the kitchen.
"Where are you going?" Opal called after her, "To find a way out, I don't plan on dying," came the reply.
Opal's grey eyes held panic when Brenda angrily left the kitchen, followed by a frantic Amanda and a feraful looking Savannah.
"Guys we need to stick together, splitting up is not the best idea!" She called out, but her warning fell on deaf ears.
Opal wandered around the house, going through every nook and cranny to try and find an escape, but it was pointless. Everything was somehow sealed in, and the windows would not break.
Opal punched a wall in frustration only to feel every fiber in her being freeze due to a loud scream that echoed in the house. She immediately ran towards the sound of the scream, praying along the way for one of the neighbor's to have heard it, and ignoring the chills that kept coursing through her.
Reaching the laundry room, Opal had to cover her mouth to keep in the bile that was threatening to rise. Brenda lay lifelessly on the floor, her eyes void of life, stared at Opal, but the horrific thing about it was how shredded her body was, a bloody 'HA' was painted near her corpse.
Opal immediately ran to the front door, banging on it, while yelling at the top of her lungs for someone, anyone to hear her and help them escape.
A hand grasped Opal's shoulder, and another covered her mouth, "Sshhh, it's just me," Savannah whispered, slowly realeasing her hand.
Opal gave a sigh of relief, but it was short lived when a scream resounded through out.
The girls were running towards that general direction but bumped into Jordan, who was hysterically crying, "Don't go there! Just turn back."
For some reason the girls chose to heed her warning, Opal more on the fact that she knew she would throw up this time.
"There was an 'N' written near her body," Jordan gloomily whispered. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what these letters were spelling, PHANTOM.
"We need to get out of here, let's try upstairs, there has to be a way out," Savannah suggested.
Savannah never made it up the stairs.
The girls screamed as Savannah started gasping for air, her complexion going pale.
Opal tried to help, but it was futile. She was already gone, Jordan immediately pulled Opal away before they could see the gruesome part.
Jordan was next to go, she yelled a gurgled 'Run!' towards her friend before meeting her own death. 'T' and 'O' were scribbled near the two bodies.
Since there was no way out, Opal chose to hide in the most secured room upstairs.
She cradled herself, silently crying fir the loss of her friends, when suddenly there was a banging on the door, as if someone was trying to break in.
The sound of wood breaking was followed by a male voice yelling if there was anyone in trouble.
Opal nearly cried tears of joy. She was saved, but she could not smile, for her friends were dead.
She came out of her hiding spot and walked across the hall to meet a handsome boy with jet black hair and steely blue eyes. He had a stern look about him and he seemed off, but she did not care. She was safe.
"My name is Tom Phan, I heard screaming and I came here to investigate, are you okay?" He asked.
She shook her head no as the tears spilled from her eyelids.
"Don't worry, I'll get you to safety," he promised monotone voice, Opal could only hope.
As they were descending the stairs, Opal couldn't help but run his name through her head; it was only when they reached the bottom did her heart drop to the bottom of her stomach.
The door was intact. Like nothing broke in.
Then something else clicked that had her whole body shivering.
Tom Phan's name rearranged spelled Phantom.
With a heavy heart, Opal turned around to face a red eyed, transparent being that was grinning widely at her, "You catch on fast I must admit," he praised, but she didn't feel honored. Her end was near.
She screamed when she felt him enter her body, ripping, reshaping and breaking every inner cell. She shed a tear as her soul painfully departed from her body.
A mutilated body was proof that she once existed, the letter 'M' was spelled out using the ashes from her bones.
Throughout the world everyone and anyone who left the gateway opened by not finishing the movie did not live to see another day. Police officers were left baffled.
More and more cases opened with an unknown killer who went by the name 'PHANTOM' was brutally murdering civilians, and the officers knew not of the reason and why it was happening.
They could not connect the killings as the work of someone not finishing the movie.
A warning to all those who choose to open the gateway, make sure to close it, otherwise, this will be a legend that just might kill you.
THE END
