Macy
My vision was blurry, but I could definitely hear David sounding upset and the voice of a girl yelling at him while I was half conscious on the floor.
"You can't trust them! This guy could have hurt you, or killed you, or raped you!" She shouted.
"H-he was being nice to me..."
"So he could have your ass!"
"You're wrong, Mace..."
"Ow..." I muttered as I tried to lean up, almost falling back over instantly.
David was next to me and holding me up before my head was back on the cement, cradling me on his lap. "Oh god, I-I'm so sorry!"
"Hey, David..?" I wearing asked. "When were you gonna tell me you invited your friend to dinner..?"
He blinked before turning to the girl, a look of horror on his face. "Don't kick him again!!"
"Please don't kick me again..." I agreed, trying to focus on my assailant.
She was small, maybe around five foot. Her hair was black with silver tips and her skin was a lighter red shade. She didn't have horns, but I could just barely see her tail wrapped around as a belt.
"If you want something else, that's cool..." I muttered.
The girl blink, looking confused and surprised. "What?"
"Something else to eat..." I clarified, head pounding from the hit. "Instead of chicken parmigiana..."
She stood for a moment longer before looking back at David. "I think I broke him..."
"I told you he wasn't bad." The boy scolded back.
Before I knew it, the two were working to support me as we walked down the road, David and the girl walking while I directed them towards my house. We got a few looks, but I made sure the cops weren't called at all.
"Red house. The one with the big tree in front of it." I told them, wincing for a moment. "You've got one Hell of a kick..."
"Again, I'm sorry about that, I just..." The girl hesitated. "I gotta protect David."
"It's fine, don't worry about it." I laughed as we made it to the front door.
When we got inside, David was looking around in wonder, as if he'd never seen anything like this before.
"Kinda a lot of room for someone living alone?" The girl remarked, eyes moving across the large open space of the house. "Do you have a family?"
"No no, but I do host Christmas here for extended family most years." I told her. "Umm... What should I call you?"
"My name." She replied. "Macy. David calls me Mace, you may not, that's his special name."
"That's adorable." I chuckled, receiving a glare from Macy.
David smiled from his place off to the side. "I think she's pretty cute."
The two of us laughed as Macy shot daggers at us both. "Yeah yeah, laugh it up." She muttered.
I went to the kitchen to grab some Tylenol and start on dinner, making enough for six people, just so the kids would have enough for themselves. I served the pair at the dining room table, each of them looking down at the plates with uncertainty.
"I know, it's chicken alfrado, but I couldn't actually find parmigiana cheese." I laughed, setting down glasses of water for them before taking my own seat.
They looked to each other before Macy took a cautious bite. Her eyes lit up instantly and she started stuffing her mouth, David taking that as his sign to empty his plate.
Soon after, they were both sitting with two and a half plates of chicken alfredo gone, David looking as if he wanted to sleep.
"I've got a spare bedroom if you guys would be comfortable staying." I mentioned, David excitedly looking towards Macy.
She looked at him, then over to me, before finally just giving up with a sighing. "Fine, whatever. But if you try anything~!"
"You kick me in the head?" I questioned with a smirk. "Don't worry, I just feel good pushing you two back onto the street."
David grinned happily, running over and hugging me tightly, just before Macy pulled him off of me.
"Don't get clingy, this is temporary." She chastised, leading to the boy frowning as he turned to the ground.
"Hey." I whispered, catching his attention. "You wanna watch a movie before you go to bed, or just go to sleep?"
The boy's eyes widened in surprise and excitement, again turning to Macy.
"What's your schedule tomorrow?" She questioned.
I threw a shrug over to her. "I'm off tomorrow, so I was just planning on staying home."
She thought for a moment. "Fine."
"Yay!!"
We both turned towards David, seeming very happy to be able to do something I always thought was simple. Macy rolled her eyes before throwing an arm over his shoulder and bringing him over to the living room.
I followed, setting up the film before taking a seat with my water. "If you guys want anything at all, don't hesitate to ask."
Within the next ten minutes I got popcorn and ginger ale out, as well as a bunch of blankets.
"Thank you..." David whispered softly before he started leaning into me. "This is amazing..."
It was weird to have a teenage boy cuddling up to me, but I was in too much shock to actually do anything about it. I heard a giggle from the other side of the boy, Macy looking amused as she adjusted to lay her head on David's lap. The two looks extremely comfortable, laying together and here I was just confused as to what was happening.
What have I gotten myself into?
