Chapter 15: Final

October 16, 2015. Grimstone Asylum Grounds, Northern Pack Lands.

Tension sat rigidly within my body. That man that Dom wanted me to find and assist with freeing was nothing but a raving lunatic and a murderer, the sort that had no trouble killing people.

Tight-knitted, Lana glared at me as if her glare would unravel everything and provide answers.

I pulled my lips taut, trying to refrain from sharing what I was thinking. But eventually, she was going to know.

I placed the file back in the drawer, close and sound, and checked if I was in any way suspicious.

It didn't feel like I was. It was now two-thirty in the morning. Way past curfew and way past the hour most people slept. Apart from a couple of staff members, including the guards, most people were probably in their rooms, sleeping.

As soon as I turned away from the drawer and was back to Lana, two lights beamed over us as the alarm went off, indicating that someone was in the hallway right across us.

What the hell?

Without realizing it, I found Lana's hand and took off out of the room, exiting through the door that was just three feet behind us. Lana kept up with me. We made sure the corridor was clear before we rushed towards the stairs.

Our steps were almost silent.

"Fuck. Did we get caught?" Lana muttered as we reached the hallway of our rooms.

"No. I don't think so it was," I paused outside my room to catch my breath. "I think it was someone else."

"That was too close," She placed her hand on her chest. "Let's talk about this in the morning. This is beyond fucked up but you should get some sleep and I will too."

"I'll try." I nodded at her before we both disappeared into our rooms.

As I got in, I slammed the door shut and flicked the light switch on.

Breaths punched out through my clenched teeth as a figure formed by the light of the window.

Dom.

His black orbs burrowed into me. He walked forward, his long shadow stretching through the small room.

"What—how the fuck did you get in here?" I didn't blink for a second, looking at the very man who had been my reason to be here.

It took me a moment to realize that the alarm must've gone off because it sensed that there was an intruder here.

Him.

Thankfully, it was no longer ringing. Someone must've checked it immediately.

"Through the doors like anyone else."

"I'm not finding your crazy alpha. If that's what you came here for, you might as well leave because it's never going to happen."

My words probably sounded sharper than ever.

"Because my alpha is mad?"

"Yeah, he's a murderer and so are you!"

"And so are you." He mimicked my words and huffed a laugh as if it was a joke, as if he actually wanted to make fun out of this matter.

"You made me kill that guy!" I snapped at him.

"I didn't make you do anything. But killing is in your nature. I just pushed you a little until you let go and killed that man." He stepped closer, making me crane my neck to look up to his face.

He was amused by this conversation. I wished I could push him back, throw him off, but there was no way I could match his strength. That night, at Hollow Point, it was all just an act. All an illusion.

I couldn't believe I felt guilty and worried.

"I'm not finding that man or getting him out." I stated, my voice louder.

"You will."

"I will not. He's a madman." I yelled at him.

He didn't budge. He was like a rock, unmovable. "He's my alpha—"

"Not mine." I cut him off, staying stern in my decision.

I didn't care how long I was going to stay here, whether be it a year or more, but I had no intention of extending this stay further by getting involved with the psycho and getting myself killed in the process.

But.

There was always a but.

"I found his file. There's no mention of where he is being kept—" I paused, recalling all that I've read. "And this is his father's place. Isn't that right? Elias Grimstone is the founder of this place. Why don't you just ask him where Cassius is?"

His face morphed into something else, something evil at the mention of Elias Grimstone. I saw anger bubbling within him. His tight brows, his straight lips, his stiff shoulders—he was angry.

"It is not an option," Dom told me after a brief silence. "Only you can break him out of the asylum."

There was a change in his attitude as he spoke. I could see it. I could see the helplessness, the desperation in his eyes as if this was something that he had tried to do, time and time again but failed.

"Why me?" I couldn't help but ask. "What do I have to do with this man?"

He stepped closer to me, pushing me backward against the door. He took a deep, steady breath as the hard lines around his mouth sharpened.

"You tell me, Fallon." His long finger tapped on the edge of the table as his black eyes remained on my face.

A shiver rolled down my spine. The hard, emotionless look made me so uncomfortable.

I gulped and turned my head away from his, unable to take his eyes on my face anymore. They were making me question my sanity and anything that was happening around me.

"Please step away." I muttered, looking ahead at the window.

He did. He took a step back away from me. There was still some space between us, but it was enough.

I could breathe.

My tongue dragged over my dry lips before I asked what was running around in my head, what was making my heart race faster and faster.

"How can I know?" I muttered, almost afraid to question it.

"You'll know when you find him."

"Do you know?" I raised a brow, "You were sent to me—"

"No, I'm not aware of what's going on inside his head. I don't hear thoughts, but he does." His features tensed. "Though, I'm sure you'll have the answer to all our questions when you successfully manage to locate him in this nuthouse."

"Fine. I'll find him, but only because I want to know." I steered my chin up and said.

"Good."
