Chapter 15
I woke up at 9 a.m. the next morning and took a quick shower before putting sweatpants and a tank top on. I let my hair hang loose again after blow drying it.
The knock on my door came at exactly 10.
"What's the password?"
"Abby it's me." I opened the door and Chris walked in.
"You're in luck."
"Why?"
"Because Alex is still alseep." I internally did a happy dance but kept calm on the outside.
"Then lucky me."
"And him because Kenny just went down there and he has a pretty good sized bruise on his face." I laughed as Chris and I walked downstairs.
"Abby!" Kenny came running up to me and gave me a tight hug. "I thought you wouldn't come down for a while."
"She's trying to show that she's the better person." Chris said matter-of-factly.
"I see. Well you definitely showed me." Kenny laughed and then winced. "Ow."
"You should put some ice on it."
"I will." The three of us walked into the kitchen and I grabbed a bowl and some cocoa puffs. While I made myself some cereal Kenny got an icepack and put it on his right cheek. As Chris talked about some weird dream he had last night I sat down at the counter opposite them.
I was halfway through my cereal when a mess of blonde hair walked through the kitchen door. I hoped it was John.
Sadly it wasn't and in walked Alex. I just continued eating my cereal as the tension in the kitchen grew.
"Abby I need to talk to you." He seemed like he hadn't slept at all.
"Goodmorning." I curtly nodded my head at him but on the inside I was freaking out.
"Abby I'm serious."
"So am I. It is a good morning, right Chris?" He smiled and I could tell he could barely keep from laughing.
"Yes it is Abby. What about you Kenny? Do you think it's a good morning?" Kenny could barely keep from laughing too.
"I do."
"Abby please."
"Please what?"
"Can we please talk?"
"I don't see what there is to talk about."
"Abby, stop playing games."
"I'm not playing games."
"You are."
"I'm not going to argue with you like a two year old."
"Then please talk to me. I want to explain myself."
"There's no need to, I understand completely."
"No, you don't."
"Well I don't feel like talking to you so I guess we'll leave it at that." I put my bowl in the sink and started walking upstairs. There was footsteps behind me and I really hoped it was Chris or Kenny because I couldn't keep my composure much longer.
I went to open my door but a hand wrapped around my bicep.
"Let me go Alex." I said through gritted teeth.
"I just want to talk to you. You don't even have to talk, I'll do it. Please."
"I don't want to talk to you, now let me go."
"I'm not letting you get away from me without at least knowing why I did it."
"What why you made out with another girl two days after you made out with me?" My voice was rising.
"No, that I got a girlfriend."
"What?!" I exclaimed
"I'm so sorry Abby."
"So not only did you make out with another girl two days after you made out with me, but she was your girlfriend?"
"Abby-"
"And not only that but you completely ignored me! You didn't even tell me why! You just completely shut me out."
"Well if you would just let me explain!" He was yelling now too and I saw Chris and Kenny standing at the end of the hallway.
"What's there to explain?! I just told you everything, it's not going to make it hurt any less if you say it!"
"Abby I didn't mean to hurt you. I was stupid, I went about the problem the wrong way. I was just so conflicted and Isaac is my best friend and-"
"What does this have to do with Isaac?! This is you and me, I guess along with your little friend from yesterday."
"I can't tell you."
I scoffed. "You can't tell me?! Well then I guess I'll just go into my room and not tell you that I never want to speak to you again."
"Abby please-" That's as far as he got before I slammed the door and locked it. I heard something hard hit the wall and then a bunch of yelling. Then silence.
I looked at the pictures on my wall, most of them were of Brittany, Danny, and I. Some of them were Aunt May and I or when I was little. I walked over to my nightstand and opened the top drawer, I moved the Xanax aside and way in the back I found my most precious pictures in the whole world.
My parents.
Oh I missed them so much, what I wouldn't give to have a mother right now.
She was beautiful. Dark flowing brown hair and hazel eyes- like me. Her smile was the warmest smile you'd ever see. I don't remember a lot about her because she died when I was only eight, but I remember her smile, and her laugh. I remember her warm arms wrapped around me when I was scared at night or had a rough day at school.
I remember my father too. He wasn't a big man, but definitely had a build. In this picture his dark hair was blowing all around. He was smiling and looking down at me. We were all sitting around a fountain at a park, I was sitting on both of their laps and smiling like the cute little five year old I was. My mom and dad were both looking down at me with so much joy and happiness. I couldn't help it and didn't even realize the tears running down my face.
The next picture was their wedding picture. They were both a little younger but generally looked the same. Except my dad was in a tux with a purple flower pinned to the lapel and my mom was in the most beautiful wedding dress I have ever seen.
It was long and flowy, but hugged her waist in the slightest way. The top was made of a silky material and flowed into an elegant lacey, flower pattern. Even the veil was beautiful, just a simple see-through white one.
They both looked so happy and in love. One day I want to look like that with the boy of my dreams.
The next picture was of my mom in a hospital bed holding me for the first time with my dad leaning over the bed so he could see me. They both looked so proud. I knew that something was written on the back because Aunt may had shown me it a long time ago.
"The happiest day of our lives was when our precious baby girl, Abigail Grace Taylor was born. We love you sweetheart and always will no matter what. -Mom and Dad"
Little did my parents know how much that statement meant to me now.
I knew almost every detail of that day, the worst day of my life. When my parents died we were on our way to Disney World for a close family friend's wedding.
We had been driving for a long time by then and I had fallen asleep multiple times already. I was sitting in the back of the family minivan, my parents were both sitting up front, and all of our suitcases and stuff were in the middle, almost like a wall.
I was dozing off again when I heard the blast of the horn. It all happened so fast, yet in slow motion at the same time.
I remember my mom and dad looking at the last second and my dad slamming on his breaks, but it was too late. I remember the impact of the huge pickup truck hitting the van. I remember seeing everything flying everywhere. I remember the pain of my head hitting the window, but the brunt of the force was in the front of the car. I remember sitting there half conscious, looking at my mom and dad who weren't moving. I couldn't see their faces, which I'm glad for. But I could see them holding hands.
I vaguely remember all the sirens and all the people helping. I vaguely remember the man who carried me out of the van after cutting out the middle to get to me. He was a firefighter and his name was Michael he had told me.
I vaguely remember him laying me on the softness of the gurnie and I vaguely remember all the flashing lights of the cop cars and things being shoved in my face. The last thing I remember before I woke up a week later in the hospital was the closing of the ambulance doors.
My mom had died on impact in the car, my dad three days later in the hospital.
I had been the only one to come out alive with only a severe concussion and eight stitches. I still have the scar of the cut from when my head hit the window, but it's only a faded gray line hidden mostly by my hair. It was jagged and it was ugly, but it reminded me of the last seconds I had with my mom and dad.
I woke up as an orphan in that hospital. I didn't have any other close family that would take me in other than Aunt May. She was upset that her brother and sister-in-law had died, but she told me that she was even more upset that my father and mother had died. So she took me in.
I put the pictures back in the back of my nightstand and wiped the tears off my face. My phone started ringing just as I had composed myself.
"Hello?"
"Hey Abby, how's it going?" Danny asked on the other end.
"Um it's going okay."
"You don't sound too happy."
"Well at this second it's not going okay, but overall it is."
"What happened?"
"I just got into a fight with one of the boys here." I didn't want to go into details about what happened with Alex because I knew Danny would get mad and worried.
"I'm sorry. Are you okay?"
"I will be."
"Alright well other than that how's England?" So I went on to telling him about the gorgeous house and all the boys and Gracie. How nice people were, at first (cough cough Alex), and how Gracie and I went shopping.
"Wow, so it sounds like you're having a great time. Are you adjusting well?"
"For the most part."
"That's great."
"I miss you guys though, a lot."
"We miss you too Abby."
"I haven't met anyone other than the boys and Gracie here."
"Well go out and make some friends."
"But I can't drive." I laughed
"Well go with someone else." I hadn't really thought of going with one of the guys to make some friends. To be honest the idea made me really nervous.
"I'll think about it." I laughed again and felt all the sadness before being lifted away.
"Good, well listen Abby, I'll talk to you later because my mom is calling me for dinner."
"Okay, tell your mom and dad I said hi."
"Alright, bye Abby."
"Bye."
~°~°~°~°~°~
Chris told me that Alex ate dinner in his room last night.
I wouldn't know because I also did that.
Three days later and Alex and I still haven't talked.
"Get up."
"Go away."
"We're going out for breakfast."
"I'd rather sleep and eat breakfast later."
"Too bad." Chris pulled the covers back and laid across me.
"Get off." I mumbled into my pillow.
"Not until you get up."
"Well how am I supposed to get up if you're on top of me?" He was quiet for a moment.
"Fine, but if you don't get up I'm pulling you off the bed."
"Fine." He got up and I did that same.
"Get ready. You have twenty minutes."
I grumbled and Chris left. I took a quick shower and braided my hair down my back. I slipped on a pair of jean shorts and a loose tank top before slipping on some sandals and grabbing my sunglasses and some money. I quickly went down the stairs and into the kitchen, the twins and Jeremiah were sitting at the counter. Eli and Jeremiah both perked up when I came in.
"Hey beautiful." Eli said
"Goodmorning."
"Where are you off to on this goodmorning."
"Breakfast with me." Chris told him
"Lucky!" Jeremiah threw his hands into the air. "I want to go!"
"Me too!" Eli whined
"Sorry, no can do little bros, she's mine this morning."
He grabbed my hand and led me out the door. I heard Eli and Jeremiah saying things in protest while Josey laughed.
"So where are we going?" I asked Chris once we were in his car.
"To breakfast, I told you that."
"But where."
"I'm not telling you."
"Please?"
"Nope." I folded my arms across my chest and pouted.
"You're adorable when you pout."
I glared at him, "Shut up."
He just laughed and kept driving.
We pulled up to a small diner and got out of the car.
"So why the sudden urge to take me to breakfast."
"To talk." The hostess took us to a small booth in the back of the restaurant.
"About what."
"A party."
"A party?"
"Yes."
"Okay..."
"A friend of ours is throwing a party and I want you to come."
"Um I don't know. I'm not really a party type person."
"Come on, it'll be fun."
"I don't know Chris."
"Please. I'll stay with you and I won't drink too much. You'll be able to make some friends from the school you'll be going to and actually have a bit of fun."
"When is it?"
"Tomorrow night."
"Where?"
"Our friend Tommy's house. Alex, Kenny, John, and I know him from school. He's a cool guy."
I shrugged my shoulders, Danny told me to do something like this. "Sure."
"Really?"
"Yeah I mean, I'm going to be living here now so I might as well make some friends."
"That's awesome."
"So why did we have to go to breakfast for you to ask me that?"
"Because I thought it was going to take a lot longer." He smiled at me and I laughed. Chris knew me all too well.
The waiter came and took our orders and we talked about random stuff while we ate.
"So what do you want to do now?" He asked me when we got back to his car.
"I don't know, it's up to you."
"Well I asked you first."
"Well I said it's up to you."
"Okay well, my friend Harry and a couple other friends of mine were talking about going to the movies. Want to come?"
"You want me to go to the movies with you and your friends?"
"Of course. I think they'd really like you."
"But what if they don't?"
"Then it just proves that they're idiots." I laughed
"What movie?"
"Some comedy they've been talking about seeing. I'll give Harry a call to see if they're still going."
"Okay." He pulled out his phone and held it up to his ear.
"Hello? Hey Harry, were you Misha and Thomas still thinking about going to the movies? Yeah? Okay well is it alright if I bring a friend of mine? Yes she's a girl. No not like that. Jeez Harry will you shut up? Yes okay, bye." He sighed and ran a hand down his face.
"Sorry about that, he's an idiot."
I laughed, "He sounds funny."
He started driving and a couple minutes passed before we pulled up at a theater.
Chris and I got out of the car and approached a few people who I guessed are Harry, Misha, and Thomas.
"Hey guys." They greeted him and I did my best to stand kind of behind him.
"This is Abby. Abby this is Harry, Misha, and Tommy he's the one that's throwing the party." I smiled at them and they all greeted me happily.
"So you're the new Meyers?" Tommy asked
"Kind of." He laughed and Chris put his arm around my shoulder.
"Consider her an honorary member." He said to Tommy
Chris and I decided to share a popcorn since we just ate and all five of us filed into the theater, which was slightly different then the ones in America.
I ended up sitting in between Chris and Misha who was really nice.
"I'm so happy to have a girl to hang out with." She whispered before the movie started. "Boys can get so annoying. You probably know that first hand though." We both laughed
"You have no idea." We continued talking for awhile until the movie started and we all fell silent.
After the movie we all went out to lunch and I realized I really liked Chris' friends.
Misha was really sweet and it was nice to be around a girl my age. She said that we would definitely hang out at school and she would help me adjust.
Harry and Misha were dating. He was really fun to be around and was always cracking jokes. He messed with Chris a lot and contrary to his embarrassment I found this rather entertaining.
Tommy was really cool. He was definitely a flirt, but he didn't make me feel uncomfortable necessarily. I was almost excited to go to his party now because these people were so cool and welcoming.
"So you like them?" Chris asked me as we were driving back to the house.
"I love them. They were so cool and nice."
"Misha seemed to really like you."
"Well I really liked Misha."
He laughed. "Good. You guys make a great pair."
It was nice to finally have some friends other than the Meyers.
