I was shivering.

He kept creeping closer as he walked, and he would brush his light fingertips across my freezing hands.

I couldn't tell if the touch was accidental.

"Do you ever think of the end, Zachary?"

His tone was somber and low.

"The end of what?"

He gave a small smile at my ignorance of the subject.

"The end of it all, the end of everything."

A silence settled across us as I thought.

Had I thought of the end?

"The only thought about it that has passed my mind, is that I would really like to paint it." I commented quietly, my words barely audible over the rain.

"Paint it?" He asked in disbelief.

"Yeah, paint it. It would be something new, something exciting almost, and that's what artists try and capture, no? Things they find exciting."

He stayed silent for a few minutes before speaking again.

"And you consider yourself an artist?"

"I consider myself just a person that likes to capture things in time."

I thought back to the sunrise I painted while standing precariously balanced on my fire escape that I used as a makeshift balcony. It was so quiet and still, almost as if we were the only two beings in existence. Three, if you counted Sebatian in the other room who grew increasingly grumpy that I had woken him. But the sunrise was magnificent. It stood in a tall glory, knowing that it had captured my full, undivided attention as it pulled itself across the vast skyline. It showed me that life was worth living, even if I lived it predominantly alone.

Calvin took a shallow breath.

"If I were an artist, all my creations would be of you."
