Chapter 2: Arrival

Second star to the right, and straight on til morning
That Peter told Wendy was the way to Neverland. But even birds carrying maps and consulting them at windy corners could not have sighted it with theses instructions.
Peter of course just said anything that came into his head.

Everyone braced themselves as the ship dipped into the portal set for Neverland. The wind whipped around them, which made keeping put a difficult task. Everyone held on to a railing or something sturdy as to not fall overboard. And in a matter of seconds, the ship dove in the water, leaving Storybrooke behind.
The Jolly Roger was a strong vessel, made for traveling to different worlds. Adaline, Lillian, William, and Jack knew this best, aside from Hook of course. But the rest of the ship's passengers got a hell of a ride.
Soon the ship popped back out of the portal, landing them in a place with a dark hazy sky and foggy waters. The moon shone brightly in the sky, and in the distance an island could be seen. They'd arrived. "Is that-" "Aye." Hook said, cutting Emma off. "Neverland."
Silence fell over the ship. Everyone was taking in the atmosphere they were now in, and it wasn't a pleasant one. Whether they had been to the island or not, everyone felt uneasy.
Emma soon went below deck, and Hook followed. Gold had disappeared to who knows where, leaving Snow, Charming, and Regina on deck with the 4 teens.
Nothing was said for a few long minutes. Uneasiness soon turned to awkwardness, and William broke the silence. "I'll go watch the wheel, since our dear captain abandoned his post." He said and stood up from the barrel he was sitting on. "It's not your ship anymore, Will." Adaline said in a kind but stern voice. William sighed. "Was it ever my ship in the first place?" He said. "You know what lurks in these waters, Addy. I'm just trying to steer clear." "What do you mean, lurks in these waters?" Snow said, cutting into the conversation.
Before anyone could answer, the ship started rocking to one side, as if it was being pushed. Then it happened again, and again. "Great job Captain Deadpan, you drove us right into them." Jack sneered as he jumped to his feet and scanned the water for any sign of life. "What, what is it?" David said, joining Jack and looking over the edge of the railing into the water. Jack didn't look up at David, and in a dull, grave voice, he said "Mermaids."
By now Emma and Hook had joined them on deck. "Where's Gold?" Snow asked. "He left, went to the island to find Henry himself." Said Emma. "But that's not important, what was-" "He knows we're here." Lillian said to Hook, who immediately understood. "Try and ward them off, do anything to get them away from the ship." He shouted and went to the helm. When he saw William at the wheel, he simply pushed him out of the way and seized it himself.
The mermaids were mercilessly attacking the boat. While Emma, Snow, and Charming tried the old fashioned way using the cannons, Regina tried her hand with her magic, which worked quite well. Hook was still trying to keep the ship as level as possible, while William and Adaline were being his eyes.
In the midst of all this, however, Jack had a different idea. One that he shared with Lillian, for he knew if anyone would agree, it would be her. "Are you insane?" Lillian said. "You want us to row to the island in mermaid infested waters?" "Lillian, think about this logically." Jack yelled over the wind. "We both know who sent them here. He obviously won't give up until this boat is at the bottom of the sea. So if we left now-" "He would be too focused on the Charmings to worry about us." Lillian said, finishing his thought. Jack had that mischievous gleam in his eye, it bordered amusement and pure evil. "No wonder you were one of his favorites." Lillian said. "And no wonder you weren't." Jack said. "Now come on, I don't feel like being fish food today."
"There!" Adaline yelled, pointing to a figure swimming in the water. Charming swerved the cannon toward the mermaid and fired. He missed, but it definitely scared it off. William was on the other side of the railing helping Regina. "They just keep coming." Regina muttered. "Aim for the face, vanity is more important to them-"
William stopped his sentence midway by the sight of a rowboat out of the corner of his eye. Who would be stupid enough to row through mermaid infested waters? But when he saw who was in the boat his confusion melted away and turned to disbelief.
Regina didn't seem to notice William's sudden change in mood. He walked toward the direction which the boat was sailing, it was going for the island. "They wouldn't." He muttered, but upon investigation he found they would. Lillian and Jack were indeed abandoning them. "Cowards!" William yelled to them, but he was sure the wind carried the sound elsewhere. Or if they heard, they didn't acknowledge him.
William's cries caught the attention of the rest of the passengers on the ship. The mermaids seemed to have left, other than one that was caught in Emma and Snow's net. As they were pulling it in David approached William and caught sight of the rowboat now set towards Neverland. "Is that-" "Yup, Jack and Lillian." Said William. "Should've known those two would weasel out of harm's way." "Have they done this before?" David asked, his hands on his hips, looking from William to the rowboat. William laughed coldly in response. "Those two would do anything to save their own skin." Said William. "But it doesn't matter, he's going to find them soon enough and they'll wish the mermaids had caught them."
"Cowards!" The simple word carried over the noise of the sea and the wind and reached Jack and Lillian. They both hesitated, but kept rowing. "Does he think we haven't heard that before?" Jack muttered. "He'll get over it, he's a hot head you know that." Lillian answered, continuing to row. "Why am I doing all the work anyways?" "Because I came up with this idea, therefore you can at least row a bit." Jack answered, lounging back as much as he could in the small vessel. Lillian rolled her eyes. "You're an idiot." "But a smart idiot." Jack said. Lillian didn't bother to correct him, though she had a million witty comments in mind. Instead, she contemplated why she decided to listen to anything Jack said in the first place.
Soon, the boat reached the sandy shore of Neverland. Lillian and Jack climbed out and tied the boat to the shore to assure it would be there should they need it later. "So what now?" Lillian questioned. "I don't know, but we have until that ship sinks to find out."
Soon Emma and Snow pulled the mermaid on deck and laid her there. Hook stood at the helm while everyone else gathered around her. She was rather beautiful, with her dark hair and sea blue eyes. "Get that bloody thing off my ship." Hook yelled. "No, we need her for leverage." Regina explained. The mermaid simply glared at Regina. "But how do we know this won't give them an excuse to attack us more?" Snow reasoned. David put his sword to the mermaid's throat. "Call them off." He said. "No." the mermaid answered. "It wasn't a request, sea bitch." Said Regina, forming a fireball in her palm. "Stop!" Adaline jumped between Regina and the mermaid. "She's just following orders, she can't do anything." "Who's orders?" Emma questioned. "His orders." William said, crossing his arms. "Oh for gods sake." Regina said, her fireball disappearing and her hands clenched in fists at her sides. "He has a name. Peter Pan!"
Adaline gasped in fear while William instinctively got into a defensive position. Even the mermaid flinched. "Ever heard the phrase 'speak of the devil and he shall appear'?" William said harshly. "The last thing we need is him appearing at our weakest stage."
"Oh he should be the worst of your worries." The mermaid said sweetly. "Let me go, or die." The waters seemed to had gotten rougher as she spoke. "Not a chance." Regina said. The mermaid shrugged and blew a horn made of shells that was around her neck. Rain started to seep from the sky and fall on deck. "She called on a storm." Hook yelled. Something flashed in Regina's eyes. "You're going to pay for that." She said in a dangerous voice. In a matter of seconds the mermaid was turned to wood. "No!" Adaline shrieked as the storm raged harder. "Adaline, can you protest mermaid rights later?" William yelled.
Adaline turned on her heel and faced William. "Do you have no value for human life?" She said. "That was no human Addy, and you know it." William said in a calm voice. "She was innocent!" "She practically gave us a death sentence!" The two's voices had significantly loudened. "You don't get it!" Adaline yelled. "Look at what you've become! A life was just ended in front of our eyes and you give it no justice at all!" "You want to talk about undeserved death!" William shouted back. "I'm sure your ex knows tons about that, tell me. How many lives did he take and torture in front of you? How many times did you defend them, huh?" "That's different! I loved him!" "There was nothing to love!" William retaliated. "There was! You just didn't see it." Adaline shouted, taking a step closer to William, who gave one last statement. "Neverland is run on imagination, Addy. And your whole romance was just that." Adaline shoved William to the ground at his words.
Then, a splash was heard from behind the two, and their heads snapped toward the source of the noise. "Emma!" Snow shouted, running to the railing and looking at the waters. Adaline and William soon picked up on what was happening and went towards where Emma had jumped.
When Emma had not returned to the surface, Hook volunteered to jump in after her. William tied a rope around the captain's waist in a sailors knot that was sure to hold. Then Hook jumped in the water after Emma.
5 seconds went by. 10. 20. The group waited anxiously on deck. Then, Hook resurfaced with Emma dragging behind him.
Once they were both back on the ship, Emma regained consciousness and explained her reasoning behind her inspiration to jump. "We were fueling the storm." She said. "The more we argued, the more the storm raged." Adaline and William exchanged looks. But whatever they were thinking, they kept it to themselves. Instead they gazed up at the island ahead, and wondering what else it had in store for them.
