Chapter Two: Change

"Time will pass, memories will fade, feelings will change, people will leave, but the heart never forgets."
                                                                                                                           ~Unknown

Now one thing you might want to know about Victoria is that she works with an Agency called, S.P.I.E.S. Which stands for Society for the Prevention of International Espionage and Subterfuge. It was a lie, even within the acronym, unless the S.P.I.E.S program needed to prevent everyone from their own International Espionage and Subterfuge. . .

S.P.I.E.S was known worldwide for its reputation for catching notorious criminals and spies. It dated back to the Cold War, where it had achieved success immediately. And after the Cold War started to die down, the Agency decided they had no reason to stop what they were doing and instead grew bigger and even more complex.

They focused on catching criminals and as they put it, "Keeping the world safe from all the dangers unseen".  So as you can imagine the government was very happy with them, but little did they know that their prized, crime catching Agency had Agents which were used for other purposes rather than running after crime.

S.P.I.E.S ran like any another police station, although with better technology and much, much more advanced weaponry. The Agency within the Agency had no name but was ran by a system which was controlled by a Head.  And there were about 25 in North America alone. Each Head was assigned his own unit which could consist of 300 to 500 agents. And among those agents 100 of them died or were 'missing in action' per year. If the year, went presumably well.

The agents were raised by a number of points they scored. The more Assessments they did, the more points they got. And as they were Promoted getting to the next Promotion got harder.  Assessments were meant for points, whereas Missions were something they had to do, and where hardly ever rewarded with points.  Each Agent had the choice to wear a Mask of any sort they chose, but most got ones related to their names. Most names consisted of the wilderness, such as Agent Willow, or Agent Fox, along with a given number based on, if it was used before. But mostly that agents that wore the Mask, were the ones who wanted to remain unknown to the public. The system ran kind of like a strategic video game, but of course without the re-do's. Because once you failed, you paid with it in full on death with no come backs...

The current Head of the agency, in which Victoria or otherwise known as Agent Vixen48 worked in, was known as James Volkov. Volkov which was a Russian last name, meaning Wolf. Though many knew that was not his true name and were baffled weather it was his origin or not since he hardly ever came out from behind his Mask. Nevertheless, that was his last name, couldn't suit his personality more.

But for the moment, Agent Vixen48 was just Victoria Goldheart, a girl with wavy black hair and brown eyes that changed color depending on her mood. A normal girl, for the moment anyway, or as normal as a girl training to kill people without blinking an eye could get.

Victoria was trying to figure out why the heck her tent wouldn't set up properly when Larry, Nessa, and Kevin showed up.

"Hey Vic, are you in there?" called Larry.

In her haste to get out of the confining hell, the tent was becoming, Victoria bumped her head on the main pole in the tent as she tried to put it up and stick her head out the tent flap to see who it was, at the same time.

"Crap!" Victoria muttered as she tried to get out of the dangerous thing the tent had suddenly become; a contraption of tarp, poles, rope and some more rope.

"You okay in there, Vic?" Nessa asked concerned, "You do realize you could ask one of the people working here to do that for you right?"

"Aggh, yeah I'm good." replied Victoria as she managed to untangle herself from the inside of the tent, "And besides, why would I want that, when I can do it-" Victoria hopped out of the tent, only to have the whole thing came crashing down, "-myself..."

Laughing Vanessa and Larry went to give her a warm hug, Vanessa because they were best friends and Larry because Victoria and he were like siblings, knowing each other for as long as they could remember.

"I'm so glad you decided to come, " Nessa squealed, "And also, your hair! Sweetie, I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to actually see your face without your hair forever in the way," Nessa smiled.

"Hey, what can I say, was going for the whole 'can't touch this' look," Victoria said grinning, while  Larry rolled his eyes towards the heavens, "Oh, and my dears, I don't even know how on Earth I could possibly miss a faux camping experience! Dear dear, oh my!"

Kevin cleared his throat, "Yes, Ms. Goldheart, I am so glad you're enjoying your stay here at our faux camping experience."

A crimson color faded into Victoria's face, "Kev, I- I am sorry, I did-" Victoria too then cleared her throat and regained composure, "I apologize Kevin, that was rude of me and uncalled for and-"

"Oh, be quite," Kevin muttered pulling her into a hug. Surprised, it took Victoria a minute to hug him back, immediately she felt embarrassed for what she had said and for ignoring him for the past few months.

"But seriously Kev-" Victoria began pulling away from Kevin, only to have Larry interrupt.

"So whatcha you been up to, whilst  us poor peasants were at home, what with you away, traveling the world?" Larry asked herding the four of them, while Nessa rolled her eyes and pulled out of the group to go talk to someone she recognized, "Looks like someone is gonna miss out on The Knook. Thank the lord."

"You love her," Victoria said smiling.

"As much as I love cheese, and I hate cheese," Larry retorted. Kevin just shook his head, glancing sideways at Victoria, frowning as the unfamilair haircut threw him off.

"You're being stupid Kevin, she's still the same person, it's just a haircut," shaking his head Kevin tried to concentrate on what Victoria was telling Lary.

"_but yeah, I mean it wasn't the best hotel experience ever but the view and the hike were totally worth it," Victoria looked at Kevin and they both exchanged knowing glances.

The hike Victoria was telling Larry about had been worth it, worth getting to her next promotion. Kevin had known for some time that Victoria was close to her next promoting level, though he wasn't sure if she had or not. And quite frankly, Kevin hoped she didn't get promoted. Because being promoted equaled one simple thing; more change. And recently, Kevin wasn't exactly fond of changes.

"Not going to lie, I actually miss the Knooks food," Larry said thoughtfully more to himself than everyone else.

The Knook, where if the campers chose, they could eat their meals inside rather than outside. The Anderson Camping Experience was like a very posh and expensive 'camping' place where people experienced the wild wonders of camping. But without actually getting their, lord forbid, fancy shoes ruined.

"So you've had quite the adventures huh, Vicky," Larry asked.

"You bet Lars, you bet." Victoria muttered.
