SURPRISE!!!

Drik's POV. (No its not dick you perves haha)

...a week before the ceremony.

"Alpha you have mail." I look up to the sound of my secretary's voice,"bring it here then." I lift me hand so she can hand it to me and continue to read the file before me, without looking at the envelope I open it and pull out the card inside. Once I finished reading the last paragraph in the file, I look at what I have in my hand. It reads:

You are invited to the Luna crowning and Alpha ceremony of Lana Wenthright and Warren Davis.

The ceremony will be held on the Eve of the new moon and will be held on the grounds behind the pack house territory.

Please RSVP as quickly as you can.

Well, since she is my most beloved baby cousin I better call and let her know I'm coming. I grab my cell phone and calls hers, after a few rings she picks up "Hey Cuz, what's up?! Haven't heard from you in a while? How's your pack?"

"They're fine, thank you for asking. They still ask about you, you know? Ever since the last time you visited and practically blew up my office in a sad attempt to light the fire place, let's just say you will not soon be forgotten." I here an embarrassed groan on the other end of the line, "pleeease, do not remind me of my failures! I said I was sorry!" I burst out laughing at her reaction, "I'll forgive you just as long as you never try to build a fire in my office again."

"Okay, I promise. Listen I'm glad you called. I was actually going to call you and ask...would you step in as Warren's side man during the ceremony? Since I have one of the girls in the pack as my 'lady in waiting' I was hoping you would accept to be his? We decided for our stand-ins we would take from each other's pack or family, you would be like something of a 'best man' so to speak, and since you're my favourite cousin in the whole world I couldn't think of anyone better than you. It would mean a lot to me."

I nod my head yes but then remember she can't see me, "ugh yeah sure I can do that for you" I say quickly. I hear her laughter on the other end of the line "you nodded at first didn't you?" I grunt in response, unimpressed by her laughing at my expense. "Thank you so much Drik, oh not that it matters but I just want to warn you ahead of time. You will have to dance with Licy after the ceremony when everyone makes way on the dance floor for us. I want you to be super nice to her. I'm going to be honest, she used to be Warren's...well, mistress of a sorts and she was the main reason he rejected me at first." I felt my blood boil, "he did WHAT?!!"

"Shhh Drik, will you relax! Trust me, there is a lot more to the story than you think. Even if don't know all of it, there is something behind all of this that I just can't place my finger on. I'm still trying to figure it all out but I'm hoping soon enough Licy will tell me everything." I don't say anything for a few minutes and run my fingers through my hair, "Alright well I'll try my best not to kill Warren when I meet him. I'm not going to lie, if he hurts you again I will rip him limb from limb."

"I wouldn't expect anything less from you Cuz! Alright well I have to go, I love you! See you in a week!" She hangs up on me but just before the line goes dead I swear I thought I heard a growl from the other end of the line.

I drive onto the pack territory about a half hour before the ceremony. I park around back, following the directions of the pack member's traffic patrolling, although I'm one of the important people today, it's already getting busy with people arriving from other packs. As I step out of my car I catch the sweetest smell I've ever breathed in, it smells like Japanese cherry blossoms. I feel my wolf raise his head in interest but it's very faint so he doesn't give it much thought. Most of them of people arriving I know and recognize, seeing as they're family and friends that Lana and I grew up with. Who knew we had so many family memebers, I see some familiar faces that I haven't seen in a long time and wave as I walk towards the stage.

I've dressed very formal for the occasion as expected for any Passing of Reign ceremony; I'm dressed in a midnight blue suit that cuts my physique to a 'T', a white shirt and black tie, my shoes a soft black leather that you can buy only in the finest of shops. What can I say...if you can spend the money, why not?

I walk up the steps to the middle of the stage and see Lana's mate- who I assume to be Warren by the scent of her on him- walk out of his house and to the stage. My hands clench into fists as I get the urge to pound his face in but do nothing, Lana said not to make a scene so I will do as she promises, she's always been a smart girl and has always been cautious, never doing anything unless she knows exactly what she's getting herself into.

Warren walks towards me and shakes my hand but doesn't say a word since his father steps up center stage and begins the ceremony. He says a few words and then calls Lana and 'Warren's' slutty mistress to come out. Lana steps out first in a beautiful green gown and I hear Warren's breath catch; what surprises me next is that I do the same when my eyes land on the tall blonde in the red dress following after her. My eyes watch her every move as she steps onto the stage behind Lana. I now can understand why Warren chose her, I don't think I've ever seen anyone more divinely created. Every curve is shaped beautifully and accentuated, her dress doesn't leave anything to the imagination but not in a trashy way, it gives the impression that she knows how to properly present herself, and boy did she ever!

As Lana reaches the middle of the stage and holds Warren's hands, I still haven't taken my eyes off her, the scent I smelt before is coming from her and I would have realized sooner if I was able to take a breath after seeing her. What shocks me the most is as her eyes trail up and connect with mine I can only think one coherent thought "Mine!"

I growl, instantly remembering what Lana told me about my mate, and before you know it I jump forward and grab onto my delectable mate, making the very thing I didn't want: a scene.

I couldn't have met her at any other time? Really?

Well, let the show begin!
