Chapter 71
Felicity's POV.
Kendrick smiles up at me, "you're the bravest person I have ever met in my entire life. You don't even know how incredible you are, do you?" I kiss him again and pull back.
"Kendrick, before anything happens we need to deal with Angela's situation. We can't start helping others if we can't help one of our own. We need to start small before we can think big." I grabbed Kendrick's hand and squeezed it. I know he can see the regret in my eyes as I speak again, "we need to decide how we will deal with her mother. I told Angela that killing her cannot be an option. I don't want her to have the same struggle after I killed my father. Dealing with it after is much harder then in the moment."
I looked at Angela and called her name to catch her attention, "I truly lost my mind after I killed him. That's why Kendrick didn't come back here for so long. He was with me while I recovered from killing my father. I lost my memory and attacked others, I kept having horrific flashbacks of my dad. I even lost it on Kendrick at one point because I thought he was my dad. I don't want you to go through the same thing. I want you to do this the right way and not hurt yourself more. You're my best friend and I want to protect you from that pain." Her eyes began to fill with tears again and she gives me a watery smile.
"Thank you, Felicity, I've never had someone care so much for my well-being the way you are. You are going to be an amazing Luna and I am so glad I can call you my friend." I let go of Kendrick's hand and walk over to give her a hug.
"You will never be alone again, do you hear me. I will be here to protect you when we feel you can't do it yourself. Kendrick is here to back you up now too." She looks up at him and smiles as he nods his head at her too. The determined look in his eyes telling us both all we need to know. My mate is becoming an even greater Alpha, I am so happy I have him. I would still be struggling if I didn't have him here with me, walking with me every step of the way.
*****
I stood off to the side of the stage as Kendrick walked up to stand in front of the pack, in a place no one could see me. I stood in the shadow of an alcove, in the great hall of the pack house. I can't help but wring my hands together in nervousness. This is it, everything is to be revealed tonight. I can't help but freak out as I know there are things that are going to be said that I wish didn't have to be revealed, but they have a right to know.
And I want them to know, nothing can move forward if it isn't shared. Angela and I have to allow this to happen for change to begin. How can I expect to make a difference if I don't take this first step?
"My pack, I want you to understand that what I am about to tell you is going to stay right here in this room, unless you've been told otherwise. I have been given permission to share this with you, and I hope you will be understanding and loving as I know you are."
Kendrick takes a deep breath, this is as hard for him to face as it is for me. This has to be done, that's all I keep chanting to myself. Angela, who stands beside me squeezes my hand in comfort. I take a deep breath and smile at her in thanks for the strength she is lending me. I squeeze right back, encouraging her in the same way.
"As I'm sure you noticed the other day, your Luna is not like other Lunas. She has gone through a lot in her life. From a young age she was abused by her father," at the mention of my abuse his voice cracks and I step forward, I can't stand here like a coward.
I turn to Angela with a smile, "I have to go up there with him. I can't stand back here in fear. I must face them. If you need me, come to me and we can face them together. If not you can stay here." She nods as I let go of her hand and walk towards my mate. I take a deep breath and make my way up the stage and grab his hand. I don't look at anyone, just him. He doesn't look at me but allows the pack to see the affect his words have on his face.
"She was both physically and mentally abused by him, resorting to sex with men as a result. You may not be able to see all her scars but they are there. The reason it has taken me so long to come back to you is her father assaulted her on my way back to her and I-I-" I know he's getting to the part where he rejected me and the memory still hurts him deeply.
"Thinking she was cheating on me, even though she wasn't...I rejected her." Gasps were heard all around the room but other then that no one made a sound. I lifted our hands and placed a kiss on his knuckles, letting him and the pack know all is forgiven. "After I rejected her, her father sold her to the King of the Rogues. Not only did he physically abuse her himself, he let countless others as well.
Your Luna only did what she thought she could do to erase the pain in the past few torturous years of her life. Which was try and find comfort in other men, including her previous Alpha. Do not hold this against her, I don't. When you get to know her you will find the most wonderful and caring woman, someonewho has been hurt most by someone who should have watched over her and loved her as a parent should. Someone who has been hurt by so many men in her life and yet still finds the courage to stand before you today."
I couldn't stop the tears that leaked from my eyes, how could I ask for more? "Her previous Alpha and I fought to get her back, we killed the King of the Rogues. Then when we returned, your Luna went and killed her abuser, her father."
His voice cracks again. I can only imagine the agony he must have endured seeing me after I lost my mind. "The trauma and the killing of her father made her lose her memory. She forgot all about me and she forgot her father was dead. She began to attack her pack mates that watched over her in recovery. She started seeing her father in place of the faces of others." You could hear it in his voice, that I saw him as my father. I could hear weeping in the crowd, the pack crying for us, for me and my heart filled with acceptance and love for them. I look over the crowd for a second to some holding each other in comfort, others covering their mouth as they weep, but all of them had their eyes on me. There was something in them I had never seen before in my life, not like this.
"She saw her father instead of me, even as I called her name and reached for her. She didn't recognize me, even with the touch of her mate." He looked back to the crowd, our pack. "That kind of pain and struggle, on both our parts, I would never wish on my worst enemy. It leaves you feeling completely hopeless.
This, what Felicity has gone through, is why I've called you here. There is someone in our pack harming someone we love. A secret betrayal against someone we care for that has been hidden right under our noses. Please, don't be angry with them for not sharing this with us, for feeling as though the couldn't speak up. With seeing the aftermath of my mate's experience, I can tell you this: the difficulty in trying to reveal a secret so dark like this, that they have both experienced, is never easy. It can tear you apart, the desire to share mixed with the fear of being rejected and being called a liar. Let's not do this to her, to them. I want us to show both of them how much we truly care and prove to then we are the people I know in our hearts we truly are."
He is about to begin telling Angela's experience but I place my hand on his arm to stop him. I have to do this, not him. He moves back from the podium and looks at me, looking into my eyes he just nods and let's me step forward.
I step in front of the whole pack and begin my speech. "Hello everyone, I haven't met all of you but I am thankful that so many seem to have already accepted me into your hearts. I never thought I would ever feel as loved by anyone as much as I feel by all of you." I look over at Kendrick, looking into his eyes letting him know that he had a big part in it.
"I know this may come as a shock to many of you but there was a pack member here who was sexually abused by their parent. But please, do not blame yourselves, I know first hand how much I myself have tried to hide it from everyone around me. With the life I have lived, hiding pain becomes so easy you can make people see exactly what you want then to." There were gasps and people began to look around in shock, trying to see who was missing to figure out the truth.
I raised my hand to draw attention back to myself and for a second I was intimidated as they all stopped to look at me, but I remembered how much I've always been stared at and I brushed the fear off. "Many of you know Angela, she-" I was cut off by her voice, telling me to wait. Everyone around us was silent, shock palpable in the room you could practically feel it. She came forward and walked straight to me, I mirrored Kendrick's previous actions and moved away.
She stepped forward and turned to the crowd, taking a deep breathe she looked at me and I gave her a smile of encouragement. I stayed close, letting her know I was here if she needed it.
The whole area was silent as they listened to her story of abuse. I watched as everyone's faces flashed from shock, to horror, to despair. There was not a single person who wasn't in tears, not everyone was weeping but there was emotion in everyone's eyes. Tears just waiting to be spilt.
I watched on as my friend finally let her true self shine through, I watched as the weight of her secret lifted and everyone was finally able to understood the strong woman who stood before them.
"And that is why, my pack, I ask you to stand with your Luna and I, your Alpha, as we stop this cycle of abuse. We have a strong inclination that there is abuse in many packs. I mean, how can we be the only ones? If humans have resources for women and men who have been abused why can't we as werewolves. Fighting for what we believe isn't weakness, it is strength. Are you with me?"
I was surprised at the sheer volume of cheers that echoed around the space. The support of the pack was so profound I could do nothing else but stand in awe. This, this is what home feels like, what acceptance really means. I couldn't have received a better mate and pack to be a part of. I could fully rest with peace in my heart. The weight of killing my father was finally off my chest.
Killing someone doesn't make it right, it only just causes more issues, but this, this was real. I feel stronger then I ever have before. Knowing my pack is behind me, that we support each other. I have finally forgiven myself for not being strong enough to speak out against my father, for giving into the urge of killing a man who wasn't even worth it.
Now I could truly move on.
For I am a survivor.
I've always known it in my heart, but now I feel it too.
The world is truly about to change.
