Chapter Five
E L S A
It was, unfortunately, Monday, and I was going to see Jack again today. I hadn't realized how awkward today would be, that is, until Punz giggled and laughed at everything we'd done at the fair. I pulled my hair into a neat bun, and went downstairs to Punz. She was at the breakfast table wearing a leotard and a tutu.
"I thought you didn't wear tutus." I said, while laughing at her.
"I'm auditioning for U22 nationals." She said. If I had a drink in my mouth, I would have spit it out.
"Nationals?!" I asked.
"I made the qualifications for audtions, and now all I have to do is ace the audition."
"So, you're not going to work today?" I asked
"Nope." She replied happily "Eugene's picking me up and dropping me back home."
"Good luck." I said, and gave her a quick side hug. After breakfast, I took my car to work. When I got there, it seemed a lot more empty without Punz and Eugene. I hoped that Jack wasn't already here, otherwise we'd have problems. I walked slowly up the stairs and to my room, but Jack wasn't there. I breathed a sigh of relief. After I had taken out all my books, and warmed up with a few scales and chords, I placed my hands on the keys and started playing Hall of Fame by the Script. It was a song that I knew really well, because Punz made a dance for it, and she always asked me to play for her.
"Wow." Someone said when I finished playing. I jumped and looked for the source of the sound.
"Oh, it's just you." I said to Jack who was standing in the doorway.
"I didn't know you could actually play piano." He said with a smirk.
"I've been playing for 16 years." I stated matter-of-factly.
"Well in that case, let's get down to business." He took of his backpack and coat, and sat down in the chair next to mine to review the song. After he looked it over, he put his hands on the keys and played it all himself before adding more to it. It sounded like lyrics could be added to the song so I spoke up.
"Can I sing with it?"
"It's your song." Jack answered. He wrote down the notes, and I waited until after he finished before I played it all, and sang.
"The snow glows white on this mountain tonight, not a person to be seen." I sang. Jack twisted his face before he said
"Let's change this to the and person to footprint." I nodded, and let Jack write in the lyrics before he sang it all.
"The snow glows white on the mountain tonight, not a footprint to be seen."
"Hmm" I said and looked at the page that stared back at me. Suddenly, I gasped.
"A kingdom of isolation, and it looks like, I'm the queen." I sang.
"Perfect!" Jack said, as I played the new part of the song on the piano. He wrote the notes and lyrics down before we sat back and admired our work. I thought we would get more in, but we didn't get inspired as much anymore. Jack and I stared at the paper for the longest time while murmuring,
"Think, think, think."
