Saying Hello
Natela Lindquist • 1 September 2017
What's up, guys? Your not-so-favourite(-but-sadly-still-in-charge) blogger is back from the dead with some pretty big news! (Unless you thought our last announcement was a bigger newsflash than this one, in which case it arguably was.)
Remember the last time some guy randomly showed up on the blog? *coughs in general direction of Silver* Well, it's happening again, except less randomly this time! For anyone who's been wondering about what went down behind the scenes the last time someone was hired, there were no special privileges involved. Lucien did submit a résumé along with a sample of his work before joining us. The four of us have decided that things will be no different this round. We've just made the procedure a little more formal.
So, what's all this talk about hiring?
Well, that's exactly what we're doing. We're hiring.
;)
With Citizenship still on the way, The Quarry staff are looking for one fine man (or woman, or neither, of course) to take on a new job here on the blog. Most of us have specific job allocations on the site, though the lines between one job and the next are typically blurred, and most things we do here are more or less a joint effort. Seedings, blog posts and newsletters are job scopes currently covered by the Quarry staff, but the large project that is Citizenship currently stands unaccounted for. That makes the allocation we're now hoping to fill one of an activities coordinator.
So, what does this entail?
As mentioned above, most of our workload is shared, so you won't be working alone, as large as the job scope may seem! What we're looking for is someone who can be a representative of Citizenship. Citizenship will become the hub of activities on AGHQ, and we need someone who can place full attention on coming up with and planning events such as Project Cupid and Secret Santa. Executing these plans will definitely be a group effort, so don't fret about coming up with extravagant ideas! Besides this, an activity coordinator's job involves being the voice and leader of Sector Representatives (more on that at a later date). You'll be the one who addresses and rallies them regarding events and other happenings in the community. To put it all simply, Citizenship will be your playground, so have fun with it!
Of course, like the rest of us, you'll get to dabble in other aspects of The Quarry as well.
But what can I expect after joining the team?
Well, what happens in the long term depends on what we and you come up with. But within your first few months on the team, you'll be given a brief tour around our base of operations (Hangouts chat) and database centre (Google Drive, Gmail). You'll be taking ownership of your job scope, working alongside us to develop the final dregs of Citizenship and launch it to the rest of the community. It'll be lots of involvement, lots of activity, and you'll get into the swing of things in no time!
Okay, so this is cool and all, but how do I sign up?
We've created a Google form, the link to which will be in both the external link and at the bottom of the comments section. We hope, of course, for a gregarious spokesperson with regular access to Google Hangouts and a flair for working around busy schedules, but we'll be evaluating responses to pick the most suitable candidate. Don't think you're what we're looking for but inspired to contribute nonetheless? Sign up anyway! You might have just the trait we need. Think you're too new but are already raring to pitch in ideas? Go for it! We're taking all of you into account, not just your experience. You don't have to be all around perfect to join the team, so answer this questionnaire as your most honest and genuine self!
We'll be accepting submissions for two-week period, making the deadline the end of 14 September across all timezones.
And that's about it! We hope you're excited as we are—you don't know how happy Lucien is that he'll no longer be the "new guy" on the blog. Time for me to *disapoof* and obsessively click the refresh button as I wait for your responses to roll in!
We can't wait to meet you!
