Nova stretched and yawned. Her mate, Rex, flicked his tail and laid in the morning sun. He stared at Nova's big belly, bloated with kits. Rex closed his grey eyes.
"How long do you think?" He asked Nova.
She turned and looked at her side. "Not long. A day, an hour, a week."
Rex put his head on his paws and sighed. He couldn't wait to see his beautiful kits. Rex hoped that they wouldn't end up like him. He was deformed; One of Rex's front legs was shorter then the other. Nova looked up. She pricked her ears for any sign of danger. They were out in the open in dragon territory. All of a sudden, Nova yowled in pain and unsheathed her claws. It felt as if a fire was spreading through her body.
"W-what's wrong?!" Rex shot up.
Nova didn't answer, but she yowled again. Rex guessed she was going to give birth. He rushed to get a stick and some herbs. Rex rubbed the herbs on the stick then put it in Nova's mouth. She licked off most of them. After a few minutes, a tiny body fell to the ground, wrapped in a coating. Nova licked it off as she prepared for the next kit. She yowled and yowled as he next kit plopped down. Rex sighed in relief; none had his deformity.
"They're beautiful..." Nova whispered, breathless.
Rex nodded.
One of the kits was ginger with a brown head and belly with piercing amber eyes. The other was white with icy blue eyes.
"What should we name them?" Rex flicked an ear.
"Amber and... Blue."
