Chapter Eighteen
Dear Elizabeth,
I am writing this letter to you because I really feel I must. We both love Rex, which is why I find myself putting desperate pen to paper before you really do something that you will forever regret.
I am begging you to please not punish your son for something I once foolishly did. I have paid the price for my past mistake and I don't think it's fair for Rex to now have to pay for something that I was once shamefully a part of. He loves you and is missing you, yet his stubborn pride stops him from reaching out to you. But I am not too stubborn or too proud to ask you to contact Rex. I am also not too stubborn or too proud to ask you to please come to our wedding. Regardless of what you think of me, Rex needs you there. You are his mother, he is your only child, he wants you there—I want you there, Elizabeth.
I can't undo what I did, I really wish I could. I was immature and grieving, when I did what I did. I was in an awful place back then, and something truly awful happened during that time. But it only happened the once. And once was enough. I scared myself enough to know that I needed to get back to my sister and back to my foster parents. It made me want to be a better person. And I was. When I first met Rex, I was the happiest I had ever been. Until he took me to meet you and his father. That was the night that my world became empty all over again. I knew that I was going to have to give up Rex, to protect you and him from the sickening truth. My awful mistake had come back to haunt me and it forced me to make the most painful decision I have ever had to make. Which I did, because I didn't want to ever hurt Rex or you, which I would have done if I had stayed in your lives. I know I still hurt Rex by leaving him, but I honestly thought that it was the lesser of the two evils at the time. But even after all that I have done, fate decided to return Rex to my life. Whether I deserve it or not, the only man I will ever truly love, has been given back to me. Which is why I can't give him up again, Elizabeth. I also can't just stand by and watch you both pushing away from each other because of me. The past has already caused enough heartache and pain, now is the time to lay it to bed.
Rex adores you, and you adore him. Please let him back in your life. Please be a part of our wedding. Please be his mother again.
I know you probably think I have no right to ask, but I honestly feel like I must, which is why I am begging you now to really think about what you are doing. We both love the same person, Elizabeth, let's love him together. After all, Rex deserves it.
I know it hurts that we kept the truth from you, but you should also know that Rex wanted to tell you...but I pleaded with him not to.
For that, I truly am sorry. I was scared and I was ashamed. Maybe we should have told you? Maybe we wouldn't be where we are now if we had? I'm just sorry about it all, Elizabeth.
But I won't apologise for being in love with your son and I won't apologise for wanting to marry him and keep him in my life. I just hope that you can find it somewhere in your hurting heart, to let go of what has happened and become a part of our lives. I want that. Rex wants that, and I truly believe you want that too, Elizabeth. So please don't leave things as they are, please join us on what will be one of the happiest days of our lives together.
Both Rex and I, wholeheartedly hope to hear from you soon.
With the warmest of regards,
Angel x
After carefully reading the letter back to myself, I fold it twice and carefully put it inside the embossed wedding invitation. Although Rex is wanting us to do the wedding invites together, this is one that I really needed to do alone. I just hope my heartfelt letter is enough to persuade Elizabeth to come. I guess, only time will tell.
After my long and emotional chat with Faith last night, I couldn't sleep. I always planned on writing to Rex's mum, so my insomnia was the perfect time to write it. As I neatly write her address onto the smooth white envelope, which was kindly given to me by Angela and Aidan, my heart anxiously skips a little beat. Please be enough. As my heart comes to the end of its nervous little skip, that is my one and only thought—that this letter will be enough to reunite Rex with his mother again.
"Are you ready, Angel?" Faith calls out from the bottom of the stairs, obviously waiting for me to leave the house before she does. Since opening up about how much Jonathan Ford scared me with his threat, my darling sister has now settled into the role of being my personal bodyguard.
"Just coming!" I shout back, quickly sticking on a first class stamp to the top right corner of the invitation. "Just grabbing my things!" I also shout out, grabbing all that I need for work today before leaving my bedroom with one final sweep of my inspecting eyes. It has to be tidy each morning. I always have to make the bed. I always put everything back where it should be. I hate coming home to an untidy home. It's a real bug bear of mine. As I am rushing down the stairs, I call out to Faith again. "Have you washed up?" I ask, wondering where she has got to.
She peeps her head around the bottom of the stairs wall, smirking broadly. "It's all done, I even have a chipped nail to prove it...look!" Holding up the middle finger on her right hand, Faith is now shoving it right in my face as I hit the last step. "You need to invest in some washing up gloves or I'll not have any fingernails left by the end of the week." She jokes with a small pout, frowning at the damage caused to her French manicured nail. "No gloves...no washing up!" She cheekily protests.
Smiling, as I'm putting on my coat and reaching out for my car keys hanging on the hook beside my front door, I quickly answer my playful sister. "Okay, okay...I'll buy some washing up gloves for you later on today."
As I open the front door, Faith sashays right past me. "Fabulous!" She triumphantly says with a wider smirk. "What time will you be back home from work today?" She adds, sounding far more serious as she walks just ahead of me.
Pulling the front door behind me, I start following. "I'll do a little food shop after work, so I should be back by six." I tell her, closing my garden gate behind the two of us. "And I will buy you your washing up gloves." I teasingly assure my very amused sister.
Cuddling me before opening her car door, she is laughing lightly. "You better had...or I'll be going on strike." In the midst of our sisterly hug, my mobile starts to loudly ring. Pulling it from out of my warm coat pocket, both Faith and I can see it's Rex who is calling. "I think I'll just leave you two lovebirds to get all smushy on the phone." She teases me before getting into her car with a dramatic little wink.
Smiling, I wave at Faith and then eagerly answer the call from my very gorgeous man. "Morning, my rather hot fiancé." I flirtatiously say as I am getting into my own car, watching Faith drive off in hers.
My ear drum is met with a throatily deep and sexy laugh. "Morning, my beautiful fiancée." Rex deeply declares down the line. It's soooo damn good to hear his voice. He worked last night, so we haven't spoken to each other since yesterday morning. "I just wanted to catch you before you go to work." He sweetly gives me a reason for him calling, one that makes me smile all to myself as I start up the car.
"I'm glad you have." Meaning every one of my pleasantly said words. "I miss you." I mean that too. God, I really do miss him!
"I'm glad that you're missing me." He sexily states, chuckling a little at the end of his sexy statement. "I like how your body reacts when it's been missing me." He audaciously adds, minus his throatily deep chuckle. "I don't think I can wait until Saturday to see you, Angel." There's a sensual edge to his voice, sensually desperate.
His heated admission is one that is simply too tempting to ignore. "Then don't." I eagerly tell him, with a jolt of delight rushing through my very excited veins. I would absolutely love to be able to see him before he moves in this weekend. It is so incredibly exciting when he finds it almost impossible to stay away from me.
Rex sexily groans. "I'm going to make you late and I need to get some sleep. I love you." He seems to need to wrap up this conversation all too quickly.
A little disappointed, I get ready to say goodbye. "Call me later, okay?"
Rex's gentle and tired breaths can be heard. "Okay." He too, sounds just as disappointed. "Tell me you love me before you go." His tiredness suddenly makes way for just a little last minute playfulness.
Smiling, there is no hesitation from me. "I love you." My honest adoration coats my sincere three-worded declaration with my happy heart swelling inside of me.
His sexy little chuckle quickly returns. "Thank you." There's an exhausted wickedness now marinading his voice. "I'll call you later."
"Okay." But my voice is one that can't hide my missing of him.
"Angel?"
"Yes?"
"I will see you soon."
Not knowing whether Rex means soon soon or Saturday soon, I quietly answer without getting my hopes too high. "Okay. Bye."
As I end the call on my mobile, I just know that this final week is going to be the longest week of my entire life. We are so close to finally being together, every single day and every single night is going to insufferably drag. The days will be long and the nights will be lonelier and tormentingly longer. Even with Faith for company, Saturday will not come quickly enough...I just know it.
With a fed up sigh, I notice the wedding invitation just peeping out of my bag. I need to post that! I firmly think to myself, checking that I have enough time to do it before I go to work. As I put the car into first gear, so many things start to burden my mind—how much I am missing Rex, the needing to post the invite to his mum, him starting his new job and finally moving in, the organisation of our 'not too far away' wedding, Jonathan Ford and his intimidating threat, updating and displaying local art pieces for work all this week and washing up gloves for Faith—all these things flood the membranes of my overloaded mind.
Yup, this week is definitely going to be hard.
