Chapter 4

We soon became friends and we had a great laugh.

Jessica had to go back to her room an hour ago to shower and
We began to wrap up our games.

Sophie helped me make my bed and sorted some old clothes out that she never wore anymore before a loud whistle blew.

"Dinner!" The four girls cried as they ran to the door.

"Where's dinner?" I asked.

"Don't worry, follow us." Lea said and I followed her out into the crowds of girls and boys going the same way.

The hall was humongous but I managed to stay with my new friends and got to the table.

"Bloody Fish and mushy chips!" A boy grumbled beside Lea.

"Shut up Logan, some people are hungry and want to eat their food, not barf it up." Lea snapped at the boy.

The boy spun his plate round and showed us his fish which had blood in it.

I gagged and pushed my own fish away from me.

"I know what I'm not going to eat now." Sophie announced shuddering.

Diego sniggered. "I think they want us to eat sushi." He said and ate a large mouthful of bloody fish.

Julia ran from the room holding her mouth, I was surprised I didn't join her. But, on the upside, the chips were delicious.

"Diego, you need to work on your sensitivity quite a bit." Jessica sighed getting up and walking hurriedly over towards the girls toilets where Julia had gone to.

A boy with brown hair next to Diego was frowning with a notepad and pencil and was jotting down notes from a text book.

"What are you doing Daniel?" Sophie asked.

"I'm revising for my written examination, I really want to pass it this time." The boy said sighing. "Third time lucky I hope."

"Chill out dude, you have till your sixteen to pass it." A ginger haired boy said from beside me.

"It's my sixteenth birthday in two months, this is possibly my last chance to not be an JS, I want to be an JYAS." Daniel snapped back.

"When's your exam?" Lea asked.

"six o'clock today." Daniel replied.

I smiled. "I think you'll do well."

The ginger boy next to me frowned as if he'd realized i was there.

"Who are you? I ain't seen you around here before." He asked.

"Only got here today." I shrugged. "What's JYAS stand for?" I asked.

"Junior and Young Adult Spy. If you can become one of those then you become one of the best spies here and go out on bigger and longer missions. MI5 and the others might even take you on after your eighteen." Lea replied.

"So your SIT or Spy-In-Training?" Sam asked.

I nodded. "What's the difference between JS or JYAS?" I asked.

"JS is the basic Spy job, you spy on basic things and gather information so police can arrest them. JYAS are used for many things. Missions can be up to and beyond six months and can be very dangerous, any slip up and you could die, for that reason only the best get to be JYAS, there's only three here at the moment Kelly, Lea and Marcus, I would like to be the fourth." Daniel explained.

I nodded. "So what will I be doing as SIT?"

"You'll be doing training so you'll be fit for your age, it's important to be fit as a spy. You'll be doing lessons on encryption, codes and communications. Then you'll be looking at how you'd cope with situations. Just the basic stuff." Diego told me.

"Just the basics?" I said disbelieving.

Lea nodded. "Oh yeah, JYAS goes in-depth a whole lot more. But the best thing about passing the JS exam, what your doing, is the fact you get your spy name, mine is Snowflower."

Julia and Jessica came back looking green.

"Guess what?" Julia said sitting down.

"What?" Lea asked.

"Apparently there's something going on cuz the big wigs were talking about making curfew nine tonight." Jessica told us.

Logan cheered quietly. "No sports games tonight then!"

Diego slapped him. "But they only do that if there's something big threat to us." He said concerned. Then he stopped when he realized what he'd said.

I didn't know what that meant. "What does that mean?" I asked tentatively breaking the little silence in the group.

"It means." Lea paused. "That either a large terrorist organization has found us or," there was a bigger pause. "Another country has found us."

"What happens if another country finds us?" I asked asking the obvious.

"War, war and us probably being killed." Logan said grimly.

After dinner we were told to go to the assembly hall where we were told that the Sports games were cancelled and that we should return to our rooms.

There were mixed emotions in the large crowd, some didn't mind about missing the sports games and were happy. Some looked grim like us and kept to themselves and others just looked bewildered, like I.

We went back to our rooms and Jessica went to her room next door.

Lea helped me make my bed and got ready for bed when we heard a shout. "Line up in name order! On the double!"

The others scrambled up from what they were doing and half pushed me out the door with them.

The others stood smartly to attention and I tried to copy them.

A lady walked slowly down the line calling people's names which they then would reply "Here Ma'am!" At the top of their voices.

"Sarah!" The woman said on her list.

"Here Ma'am!" I said considerably quieter than the others.

The woman stopped and looked at me, then at her list.

"You the new recruit?" She said rather than asked.

"Yes....... Ma'am." I added at the end.

"Speak up, I can't hear you!" She yelled.

"Yes Ma'am!"

"Louder!"

"Yes Ma'am!"

"Louder!"

"YES MA'AM!" I yelled back.

The woman smiled and ticked my name on her list. "I want you to be that loud when talking to me on inspection, understood?"

"Yes Ma'am!" I said slightly lower.

The woman raised an eyebrow.

"Yes Ma'am." I said louder.

She grunted and carried on down the corridor before marching to the top and shouting down to us. "INTO BED, AT THE DOUBLE, LIGHTS OUT IN TEN, NO COMING OUT AFTER!"

Everyone went back to their rooms and went back to what they were doing.

"Is she always like this?" I asked after drinking some water.

"She can be worse." Julia told me.

I groaned and fell back on my bed.

Knock bang bang Knock! I jumped away from my wardrobe.

Lea laughed and banged on the door back.

The door opened and there was Jessica in my wardrobe.

"Wha- how?" I stuttered.

"Relax, just don't tell the adults." Jessica said.

"Tell the adults about what?" I said as she pulled out a packet of sweets.

"About, oh." Julia started and then winked at me as she got a couple pillows and threw them to Jessica.

"The Hawk flies through the Clouds to get the Fisher in the Snowflowers" Lea grinned.

"And lands with a SIT." Finished Jessica.

"Lights out in Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One aaaannnd now!" Sophie finished and the lights turned out.

Lea turned on a couple torches and we spent most of the night telling spooky stories and jokes.
