Chapter Three
Out of nowhere, a voice shouts right close to my ear for the second time, snapping me out from my own thoughts.
"Alice! We are finally here."
"Oww! Riley, you don't need to do that." My ear starts to ring for the second time, causing me not to hear anything temporarily. I massage my ear to prevent any more ringing.
"Sorry about that. You were spacing out."
I take a few steps back and glance up where the sign is. We are standing by Starbucks, our workplace. Geez, how long did we get here? I don't even know when we started running. Oh well, at least we are here. We go inside the coffee shop and dash to the bathroom to change. I change my clothes to my black pants, black shirt and an official green Starbucks apron then I tie my long hair into a tight bun. I sigh while I leave the bathroom then dash to my station. But then I sense a tap on my shoulder, I turn around and it is Riley with a concern on her face.
"Hey, Alice."
"Yeah..."
"What were you thinking before we went inside?"
"Uhh... someone..."
She knows what I mean when I say 'someone'. She heaves a sigh and mumbles an 'oh'. But when I look at the face, she seems to be emotionless, almost as if I did something wrong. I know I could have move on from it but I just couldn't help myself to remember him.
"Riley, is there something I said?"
"Oh, it's nothing. I just can't believe you haven't move on from that."
"Sorry, I just couldn't help it."
"Let's go. We can't stand here all day."
With a sigh, I leave the bathroom and start my shift at the counter. I start wait for any costumers going to the counter. People say it is tedious to be a cashier but it is fun attending costumers to their needs because I could interact with them. Then a middle-aged man, wearing a corporal attire, comes to the counter.
"Hello, sir. How can I help you?"
"Can I have a Café Latte with your name and number on it?" The man requests, wiggling his eyebrows.
"I'm sorry, sir. I can't give my number to strangers but I can give you the latte." I say, chuckling.
"I was joking about that but I guess the latte will be fine."
"Will your cup be tall, grande or venti?"
"Grande, please."
"Okay, that will be $3.45."
The man reaches in his coat pocket and gives me $5. I reach to the cash register for the change and give him the receipt and the change to the man.
"Your change is $1.55. Thank you for coming."
"No. Thank you, Alice." The man says his gratitude, reading my name on the name tag then I grin at the man as he proceed to the claiming area by the right side.
As he leaves, I continue on attending the needs of the costumers and interacting with them then they leave with smiles on their faces. Seeing them smile causes me to have a light feeling on my chest and I couldn't help but smile with them.
