Chapter 3

It's been two weeks since I last saw the outside world. Madame Alsika hasn't bothered to give me another mission, yet I know there's been plenty floating around. Though it's not like I'm going anywhere before they need me again. Unless we are needed, assassins are locked away in their rooms. It's the those in charge can assure that no rebellions will occur and that we are here when we are needed. The only other time we are allowed out of our rooms is with armed escorts to bring us to a sealed practice room, that way we keep in fit for any mission. They turn us into assassins and strip us of all our freedom, though some of us never even get a taste of freedom before being taken away from those we love. Not like there was much escape space anyway, our hiding place was a series of underground caverns, add heavy locks and make assassin's rooms at the very bottom it's nearly impossible to escape. The only way out is through Madame Alsika's office or dying, not that Madame Alsika would care if I died.

Madame Alsika once did care for me, but then that changed when she put me through miotrescle Miotrescle is a near death experience that increases the percentage of your brain that you unlock, this helps to bring out the deepest desire of our souls and chooses a gift to help us acquire what we want. I'm forced to hide my gift, it's said to be a disgrace to assassins. About only 1% of those who go through miotrescle survive, it makes becoming an assassin a rare job.

Where I come from has always been one of my most deepest ambitions, but I guess that's over with now. Thoughts of my true family spun around my head as I crashed onto my bed. Was my life seriously so horrible before becoming an assassin? Some part of me always felt an emptiness in my heart where a family would be, but why would I feel so empty if my father was what she said. Do I have other family somewhere, the one's that create the emptiness? Alteria, that had to be my real name. What else could it be? I've gone by Ter as long as I can remember but I can imagine that may be the only bit I remembered. Why hadn't I told Madame Alsika when I explained the dream, what had I been scared about?

All I could do was lay around in my room and hope for a miracle. My room was the lowest in the caverns, I've been raised to be an assassin since I was brought here so I'm more of a threat to the people in charge, they're a bunch of scared sniffling cry babies if you ask me. My room was lined with obsidian rough edges stone, it helped keep the heat in so we didn't ever have to deal with fire. Two rooms total was all mine. My bedroom and the bathroom will a full out walk in closet. I was in my bedroom laying on my large velvet canopy bed. The floors were covered in white fur rugs that were as soft as beach sand against your toes. I draw stars on the obsidian, I only see the real world when I'm on my missions and I always dream of someday being free to lay under the real stars without worrying about Madame Alsika.

I laid in my bed staring at my makeshift night sky. Senjore is finally free of this place, how nice it must be. I wished I was able to fall asleep, but the thought of the Matthew as an orphan troubled me. I rarely felt guilty about those who are killed, but those who are living still have to go through the torture of being alive. I kept thinking about how much easier it would be to just kill the boy, he would have been with his parents. But it was in his eyes, he feared me and what I could do to him. I had never been looked at in such fear, it tore me apart. Senjore would've done killed him without a second thought, so why didn't I?

I tried to put the thoughts out of my head as I heard my door starting to creep open. Jumping off my bed I stood straight a few feet away from the door waiting for whoever was trying to open the door to come in. My door always had problems opening since it was big and heavy it wouldn't move easily, great way to keep someone in and others out. Before the door opened enough for me to see who was coming in I heard blood curdling shrieks and the smelt of smoke. I jumped instantly onto the top of my canopy bed as three large set men in all black uniforms, and behind them one small framed man who threw someone in a pure red dress to the ground. As she started to sit up a little I could see it was Madame Alsika. "You said this is her room, so where is she!" The small framed guy slapped her, good for him.

Madame Alsika didn't say a word, her pride wouldn't let her. She was strong willed and even know when all odds were against her she kept her face with the same brave courageous glare. "I never said she'd be in here, I said this was her room!" Madame Alsika spat in his face.

"Do you think I know nothing about how you run things here? She hasn't been a mission since Lord Cralmon, so that means they're locked up in their rooms unless in training. My men have already been through the training rooms and she's not there!" The small man smiled mischievously.

Madame Alsika's fearless expression fell. "You killed him didn't you! Didn't you!" Her fury enraged, did she actually care?

"You mean that pathetic excuse for an assassin you call a son? I took pleasure in killing him. What was that idiot's name again? Samuel? No. Sean? No."

"Senjore!" Madame Alsika growled.

"Ah yes. Senjore. Well his partner, let's go back to where is she?" Why were they looking for me? And why hadn't I just shown myself? I know hand to hand combat and can easily deal with these guys, but I was paralyzed.

"I don't know." She obviously did. She taught me about hiding and she knew I would most likely hide in one of three places. On top of my bed, hidden under a dress in my closet, or in a small hole under the bathtub that I had perfectly covered by a rug. She taught me to hide smartly, but this was last second so not very smart.

"You're lying to me, tell me where she is and I'll spare your life. And your son's." He snapped his fingers.

At that moment a fourth and fifth large set man in black came in dragging Senjore with him, and he was alive! I wanted to run to Senjore and hug him, how is he alive! I saw him die!

"Senjore!" Madame Alsika was as shocked as I was, her voice filled with the compassion only a mother would have; she actually did care about something other than her pride.

"I guess our little mixture worked. A small poison that only lasts five hours, just enough to make his little friend believe he was dead. Just you have to make sure it's not a fatal hit, otherwise it doesn't matter if the poison worked or not." The small guy chuckled. "So what's it going to be? Your puppet, or your son?"

Puppet? What does he mean? "She's not a puppet and you know that!" The first time Madame Alsika ever said anything somewhat decent about me, and probably the last.

"Oh please! You stole her from a lord! She would have been set for life!"

"She was in the woods, I didn't steal her from anyone."

"Lie all you want but we know she's just a pawn! All your assassins are! You raise them to slaughter, until you deem they are ready to take your revenge out. I know you've been planning on putting Ter to that job! And I'm not going to let you have another life wasted on empty wishes! Especially not hers!" Did this guy even know who I was?

"You know nothing."

"But you know who her real parents are, don't you. 'She's alive KLQM'. Lord Cralmon told everyone she's still alive! Your little puppet may not have noticed that note but he left it clear as day. And since he's dead and his son has no memories it's obvious it was a skilled assassin. She has a target on her back now from every single threat to this kingdom! So why do you have to say now?" He proudly waited for an answer.

"Now Senjore!" She yelled.

Instantly Senjore in a quick fury started attacking everyone in the room. I didn't see much, I didn't want to be spotted by anyone. I listen to the slice of metal through skin, and the painful groans of the goons. I just listened until I was pulled off of the bed and fell down into Senjore's arms. "We have to hurry."

My bedroom was covered in blood and all five big guys and the small guy were all collapsed on the ground. As I was pulled by the small guy was still alive, he grabbed my ankle pulling me to the ground. "You have to get away from them. They are always lying to you." He whispered to me before Madame Alsika threw a knife into his forehead.

She pulled me away and all three of us were running through the burning halls. Senjore was holding my hand pulling me through the rubble, ash, and falling debris. I didn't bother to look back at Madame Alsika before I freed me arm from Senjore's grasp and started bolting allowing them to follow me. I was able to move faster and quicker as they had trouble keeping up. "Ter stop!" I heard Senjore yell.

Instantly I turned around as all around me beams and wood was collapsing in. The whole exit was blocked off as the air filled with smoke. "We have to get out of here." I looked around.

"Face it, there is no way out. I'm going to die again." Senjore collapsed in on his knees. The words rang in my ears, it wasn't the fact that he has said it, but the way he seemed to fear the thought. Senjore had never feared anything and was totally fearless, but now he was afraid.

"We're going to get out of this, we always do. Come on, I can't do this alone." I called.

"You'll have to! There's no way for me to get through!" Senjore rang with fear.

"Get your butt up now! You're the most fearless assassin in the whole kingdom! Now get your butt up and just climb through the flames!" I ordered.

"Easy for you to say." I heard his faint mumble.

All around us the cackling of the flames boomed. More and more wood constantly fell down at us. "Ter get out of here!" Madame Alsika ordered. Just before I turned to run I to a chance. With a big gulp I sprinted straight for the flames and jumped through. I rolled as I hit the floor until I was in a perfect standing position. I was instantly knocked to the ground.

"Sorry Ter, your hair was on fire. I was just trying to put it out." Senjore helped me to my feet.

"Where's Madame Alsika?" I looked around through the floating debris and furious flames.

"She heard a cry for help, she went running. I can't do it, I can't jump through as you did." He cowered back to the ground.

"We have to jump, take my hand and close your eyes." I took his hand.

I helped him stand up as he closed his eyes. He was trembling with fear, one thing I would never expect from him. He was fearless, but now he is full on terrified.

I started to run keeping his hand locked with mine, but we weren't running towards the flames, we were running at the current. It was the only safe way out and I knew it was a long shot, no one survived the current but no one was going to survive this. I clenched his hand tight knowing he would try to let go, "Hold your breath!" I shouted. Senjore held his breath confused until he opened his eyes but it was too late, he had already jumped.

We plunged into the darkness of the current and held on to each other hoping we would see the light of another day. Let's just hope we don't drown first. I held on to Senjore, no I really wished I knew how to swim. We clung together in the darkness as the current rustled us around for what felt like hours but was only seconds. Our grip on each other kept growing looser despite out efforts, spiraling around a turn the current sent me crashing against a wall with Senjore slamming me back into the wall. My head smashed last as I felt my neck snapping, bubbles escaped my mouth as my grip loosened and I was alone. All that was left was a body being tossed in the current.
