Chapter 17

Stephanie's POV

It's been a crazy holiday break, but I can honestly say I've never been happier. Becoming Collin's girlfriend has brought out a side of me that I'd thought was buried with my mother. The one that was confident, and didn't let anything bring her down.

It is now the 23rd and the starlight party is tomorrow, meaning Collin has been pretty busy the last two days getting everything ready for tomorrow. We haven't been able to go on our first date, but we both decided to have it today as a way to relax before the craziness that tomorrow will bring. I'm going insane thinking of what to wear, because all Collin would tell me is that I will need to dress warmly and casually.

Amy and Jess are absolutely no help, because all they want to do is lay on my bed watching She's the Man, or more accurately, at Channing Tatum in it. I roll my eyes and walk over to the huge closet and take a deep breath before looking for a cute outfit.

I finally decide on a sky blue sweater with dark wash skinny jeans and some knee length, gray boots. I put on a big, gray jacket and my mom's charm bracelet. Once my hair is in a sleek ponytail and I've put on some minimal makeup, I go out and get two thumbs up from both Amy and Jess.

I sit with them as I wait for Collin to come, and I remember when I told Amy and Jess that Collin and I are dating. Their eyes opened wide and looked at me in shock. When they recovered they tackled me on the couch and made me tell them every detail of him asking me out. Obviously I left out Collin's confessions, after all those were private secrets that he allowed me to hear and I would never break his trust like that.

Anyways, it was pretty much a squeal fest when I told them everything, and even though Collin and I haven't been able to go on a date until today we've still been close. We snuggle and talk a lot about anything that we feel we can't tell anyone else but needs to be taken off our chest. No kissing has happened either, and that's mostly because I wanted our next kiss to be after our first date. I can't wait, and I've literally been struggling to not just grab him and kiss him senseless. But can you really blame me? The man is gorgeous, and boy does he know it!

The sound of knocking on the front door wakes me up from my musings, and I rush to open it. I swing it open, and there stands an adorably flushed Collin with a bouquet of stargazer lilles in his hand. I take them gratefully with a kiss to his cheek and pass them to Amy who gives me a wink. I shake my head. Of course Amy would tell him what my favorite flower is. In truth, I'm happy he didn't go for the traditional roses. They're just so overused that I think most guys get it these days because it's the easiest thing to buy. It doesn't show thought. Collin going and getting my favorite flower makes all the difference in the world.

I grab my purse and hug both Amy and Jess quickly before taking Collin's hand and leaving the hotel. We pass the grumpy desk lady on our way out who gives us a withering glare before facing the next poor sucker in line. I make a mental note to see if I can bake something that'll cheer her up before Christmas.

Collin gives the valet a ticket and he comes back to us in a red Maserati. He opens the passenger seat door for me, then gets into the driver's seat and whisks us off into the unknown.

"So, this is a nice car." I tell him as I run my hand down the plush, leather seats. Collin chuckles.

"It is, isn't it? This is my baby. Got her right after I made my first million." He says with pride. I choke and begin coughing.

"Your first million!" I wheeze out. He looks at me weirdly.

"Yeaah," he says slowly.

I shake my head. I mean, I know Collin is rich. He is after all a very well-known pop star that sells millions of albums and always has sold out concerts. I guess I just never really thought about how truly rich he is. It makes me feel a little inferior to be honest, because I'm not anywhere near as amazing as he is. Not only was he able to move on from his father's death, but he also became something and didn't let fear and anger from the deaths he experienced rule him like I did. What could I possibly have to offer that any other girl in the world could give him?

"Hey, you okay there?" He asks hesitantly. "You've been spaced out for a while now."

"Yeah, I'm fine" I answer. I shake myself from my thoughts. Collin chose me. He can have anyone, yet he chose me. Therefore, there must be something great about me, right?

We keep exchanging small talk until Collin finally stops the car in front of a huge building. We get out, and he gives the keys to another valet after paying for a ticket. He grabs my hand and we walk in a comfortable silence toward his destination. A loud noise can be heard, and it's only when we're finally standing in front of it that I realize where we are.

The Rockefeller Center stands proud and tall in front of us with the signature, gigantic Christmas tree in front. The ice skating rink is filled with people laughing and having a good time, and a stage is set up to the side with a stereo system blasting Demi Lovato's hit single Really Don't Care.

I laugh and clench my hands in front of me in excitement, and Collin smiles at it.

"So I'm guessing you like it?" He asks teasingly.

"Yes! This is awesome! I've always wanted to come here! It looked so nice on t.v. and in pictures, but nothing is like seeing it in real life. Thank you so much Collin." I exclaim.

"You are absolutely welcome. I'm just glad you like it or our first date would've been a complete bust!"

We laugh and go over to a stand to rent some skates, then we wobble over to the rink.

"Do you know how to skate?" He inquires as we wait for the people in front of us to go in.

"No, I'm pretty much a newbie." I tell him. Living in a hot environment like California doesn't exactly make way for many ice skating rinks.

"Well don't worry, because I do. I learned when I was twelve, and later on when was I was fifteen the studio payed for lessons so I could sing while skating. You, my dear, are in great hands." He says with a dramatic flourish of his hands.

We finally get to hit the ice, and immediately I start falling. Collin catches me and laughs softly at my disgruntled look.

"Babe, you're over thinking it." He tells me while grabbing my hands and skating backwards to help me skate. "Here, just hold onto me and make a V with your feet."

I make the V, and look up at his encouraging face.

"Perfect! Now, slowly slide on one foot forward and then the other in that same diagonal pattern."

I try it, and even though I almost fall again, I finally end up getting it after a few tries and Collin starts skating frontwards again. It's an exhilarating time, and I can almost remember what it was like to skate with my mom before she died. I can hear the faint sound of her laughter and see a ghost of a long gone smile that always used to make me feel warm and completely loved.

Collin hugs me to his side as we skate, and I realize people are beginning to stare. I start to get paranoid thinking I did something stupid, but then I remember who my boyfriend is. It's just so easy to forget how famous he is when he's in adorable boyfriend mode, and it isn't until times like this that I remember the full extent of his fame.

Collin sighs, then looks at me with an apologetic face.

"I'm so sorry!" He whispers. "I forgot that you'd rather stay out of the media's attention!"

"Hey, it's okay." I say cupping his cheek. "I'd already come to terms with the fact that I would end up getting coverage, Collin. It's unrealistic to think I'd never get noticed with how famous you are. I'm okay with it; I have been since you asked me to be your girlfriend. We might as well start getting acquainted with your fans and answering questions before your record studio does."

He nods and smile brightly, then gives me a small kiss on the cheek.

"I'm the luckiest guy in the world." He tells me softly.

I smile and give him a kiss on his own cheek before looking back at the rink and realizing almost everyone is now pointing and whispering at us. I give them a big smile and hug Collin's side to mine. Everyone suddenly gets excited, especially the teenage girls, and they rush over.

Collin laughs and waves at them, then he yells to get their attention.

"Hey everyone!" He yells out. The crowd screams their excitement, and we both laugh. "So, I know you probably have questions, but I'm going to go ahead and tell you the only story you're getting today. This is my beautiful girlfriend, Stephanie. We have been dating for about a week and a half. I'd tell you more, but this is a date, and I'm trying to have a good time with her. Please understand that and give us space. If you can do that, I have a special suprise that I wanted to give to Stephanie, and that I want you all to be a part of. You want to know what it is?"

Everyone screams their approval and Collin chuckles.

"Okay, well, I recently wrote a song and got the soundtrack recorded. It's all about how I feel about this wonderful girl, and I'd love to sing it here for the first time. You guys down with that?"

The crowd screams their approval once more, and Collin sends a signal to the man currently manning the stage at the other end of the rink. I stay here shocked, as Collin winks and brings me to the front of the stage where two burly men come to my side, before going to the stairs, taking his skates off, and finally walking to the top.

"Alright, so as you all know, this song is dedicated to my lovely girlfriend! Stephanie, this may be our first date, but I already know we have something special. I wrote this song to try to put how I feel into words, and I hope I succeeded. Now, without further ado, this is my new song TREASURE!"

The crowd goes into a frenzy, and I'm suddenly very glad for the men currently guarding me from the frantic crowd. The song begins and I watch as Collin goes into superstar mode.

Give me your, give me your, give me your attention, baby
I gotta tell you a little something about yourself
You're wonderful, flawless, ooh, you're a sexy lady
But you walk around here like you wanna be someone else

I realize that I'm seeing him like this up close for the first time. It's exhilarating to catch him up close singing in that amazing voice of his and seeing how he effortlessly entrances the crowd.

(Oh whoa-oh-oh)
I know that you don't know it, but you're fine, so fine (fine, so fine)
(Oh whoa-oh-oh)
Oh girl, I'm gonna show you when you're mine, oh mine (mine, oh mine)

Treasure, that is what you are
Honey, you're my golden star
You know you can make my wish come true
If you let me treasure you
If you let me treasure you

(Whoa-oh-oh-h-h-h)

Pretty girl, pretty girl, pretty girl, you should be smiling
A girl like you should never look so blue
You're everything I see in my dreams
I wouldn't say that to you if it wasn't true

(Oh whoa-oh-oh)
I know that you don't know it, but you're fine, so fine (fine, so fine)
(Oh whoa-oh-oh)
Oh girl, I'm gonna show you when you're mine, oh mine (mine, oh mine)

Treasure, that is what you are
Honey, you're my golden star
You know you can make my wish come true
If you let me treasure you
If you let me treasure you

(Whoa-oh-oh-h-h-h)

You are my treasure, you are my treasure
You are my treasure, yeah, you, you, you, you are
You are my treasure, you are my treasure
You are my treasure, yeah, you, you, you, you are

I grin as I watch him walk across the stage singing lyrics that he wrote for me. ME! That gorgeous man singing is actually all mine!

Treasure, that is what you are
Honey, you're my golden star
You know you could make my wish come true
If you let me treasure you
If you let me treasure you

(whoa-oh-oh-h-h-h)

The song ends and everyone claps, with me clapping louder than everyone else and sporting a big, fat smile on my face. I haven't been this happy since before my mom died, and I can't help but wonder if it'll always be like this. Will Collin always be the only one who can bring out these amazing feelings that I can't get enough of?

He comes down to the ice once his skates are back on, and he leads away from any prying eyes.

"Did you like it?" He asks with a world of vulnerability in his eyes.

I cup his face and connect my forehead with his.

"Collin, that was singlehandedly the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me. I absolutely loved it, thank you so much!"

He smiles brightly and rubs our noses together.

"No problem, I love singing for you. Hell, I love anything that makes you happy."

My eyes water at that, and I look into his eyes and at the sincere love I see in their depths. It's at this moment that I realize just how easy it will be to fall in love with him. Not because of anything he can give me, but because of who he is. The whole package has me falling, and I wonder if I'll ever get enough.

I don't know what the future might bring, but I know that uf I have him it's going to be okay. So I kiss him deeply, and try to convey all my feelings through it. And for now, these sparks and the warm feeling in my chest that I get whenever I'm in close proximity to Collin is more than enough.
