Mint felt satisfaction surge through her as she pierced a squirrel with her claws. She had almost missed it, and had to climb to the top of a large birch tree. She picked up the squirell in her mouth, clawing her way down the tree. She landed on the tough grass, seeing. Basil has caught a small pigeon. She turned her head slightly as Parsley ran up to them. "What's up?" Basil asked him.
Parsley shook some water off his long fur. "I wanted to hunt" he said, looking around. Mint shrugged "okay" she replied "all the ground prey us in burrows so we're trying the trees. Parsley nodded then bolted over to an oak tree. Mint chuckled "he's scaring away all the prey" she sat down and began to dig into her squirrel.
Basil nodded, already having a bite of his bird in his mouth. Parsley ran through the field, birds and bugs erupted from where he was running. Basil smiled as he saw his brother was chasing a squirrel. It ran up the tree, but Parsley stopped at the bottom. Basil finished his bird. "Why didn't you climb after it?" He asked, running ovwr to him. Parsley had his ears down, obviously embarrassed.
"I-I don't know" he replied "I just felt, scared in a way." Mint sighed "trees can't hurt you" she mumbled something else under her breath, Basil couldn't hear what she said though. "Mother will be missing me" Parsley mewed, itching his ear. "Why don't you stay with us?" Basil said, not wanting his brother to leave "We live in a two leg nest." Not really a lie Basil told himself or the truth.
Parsley seemed surprised. "Okay" he said after a few moments hesitation. He followed closely behind them. Basil showed him a few landmarks. When they Finnaly came across their den, the sun was setting. Mint jumped onto the thin board of wood. She balanced for a second before padding into their den. Parsley seemed unimpressed "do your housefolk treat you right?" He asked. Mint laughed "we don't need house folk Parsley, we provide for ourselves."
They chatted for a bit, before they Finnaly fell asleep. Later that night Mint woke up. She saw her two brothers still sleeping, and the moon still shining outside. She walked out side, breathing in the crisp night scents. After a moment a ray of gold streaked across the sky. A falling star she remembered that's what father called them. She stayed watching the sky, wanting to see another star such as that one.
When one didn't come she walked back inside. She jumped for a second as she heard a scrape up against a wall, only to be angry at herself when she realized it was a mouse. She hated it when mice got into the two leg house. That one would probably die soon and stink up their den. Mint shook out her pelt, feeling weight in her paws. She laid down and soon closed her eyes.
