Prologue
"Please don't leave me behind! Brother!!"
The words ran through my head daily, like a nightmare I couldn't wake up from. From then on, no matter where I went I could feel eyes all over me. A bone chilling feeling knowing that there was no longer a sense of privacy. People judge others easily without knowing the full story nor do they care to hear it.
I was left alone and was under constant surveillance because of his actions. They feared I would take off after him but why would I. He's the one who left me. Why should I care for someone who abandon me so. His teammates however are insistent that they will bring him back however so far they've failed. In their spare time they would come and visit me or bring me food. The girl I don't mind. She's calmer, quieter and isn't as pushy. The blonde however is always rather loud and hyperactive. He drains me of my social energy so when I heard he was leaving to go and train I was rather pleased that things quiet down a bit.
Then there's the matter of his former sensei. According to Lady Fifth, he's gained guardianship of me and with his students learning other new masters, he has become mine. My sensei. My master. He is to prevent me from walking the same path of vengeance that my brother chose. However I have yet to unlock my sharingan. In terms of the Uchiha. I am weak. A child that wasn't meant to live past the age of ten. As I grew up my black hair faded and turned white. My body was constantly ill and for a long time I believed I would never be able to be a kunoichi. Yet the day I finally became a genin was the same day my brother left. I was a hindrance to him.
Lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice the presence enter my room and before I could make a sound I was then pinned down to my bed. A thick chakra filled my room and I felt a burning sensation all over my body. My eyes widened in fear, It wasn't just a single person but seven that somehow entered the village and snuck into my room.
A cynical, low voice erupted in laughter. "The last female Uchiha. She'll make a fine vessel. She'll follow under her brother's steps and seek us out for power. I really hope you survive this young one. So we'll meet again." A bright blue chakra then forced its way inside, burning my stomach with its intensity. The seven figures faded and I was left to curl up in pain. I clutched my stomach, gasping for air. I don't even remember when I started screaming but that scream was heard by my sensei who lived in the building next to me. Kakashi burst through the door and ran up to me, his sharingan out.
"Yukina!" He scanned the room, to see if the intruders were still around but only a trace of their chakra was left behind. His attention snapped back to me when he I screamed again and he immediately lifted me into his arms and rushed me to the hospital. "Summoning jutsu," I hear him say before my vision faded to black.
Later I woke up in a hospital room, with Kakashi, the village elders and Lady Tsunade at my side. My body was tied down and they were all watching me cautiously. I blinked, dazed and lightheaded. "Kakashi.. what did they do to me?" I whispered quietly "Why am I tied up?"
"I'm sorry kid. I can't answer that right now. First, tell us what you saw." His voice was uneasy but his eye never left mine. The room felt tense and I began to feel uncomfortable. Under the gaze of the elders I felt like I was under pressure. Their eyes were different...filled with distrust as if I was a monster. I looked away, tears welling up in my eyes.
"There was seven people there. I couldn't make out their appearances. Only one spoke. His voice was deep and cynical. They mentioned me being a vessel. I saw a vibrant blue chakra and it funneled into my stomach. I felt an intense heat all over and then they disappeared." My voice was quiet and shaky. I watched as Tsunade looked over at the elders. They shook their heads and sighed softly. "Just go ahead. She's another target after all." With that, the elders left the room.
I didn't notice it but Tsunade was shaking. Shaking with fury. I was blind to it until I heard a crash and look over to see she punched the dresser beside my hospital bed, crumbling it. My eyes went wide and in that moment I was once again felt fear take over. My breathing became more rapid and my chest felt heavy. Kakashi realized this and placed his hand on my arm carefully.
"Calm your breathing. I'll explain it to you know but you need to remain calm." His voice still held caution but this time it was laced with concern as well. "Lady Tsunade. Allow me to take over while you think of a plan." She hesitated but quietly agreed, looking back at me with a sorrowful expression before leaving the room. That look only made my heart race more. I tried to sit up and place my hand on my chest but forgot that I was still tied down. I squirmed against my restraints but was interrupted when I felt Kakashi poke my forehead. My entire body froze.
"Focus. You want out of those restraints then you need to calm down. Are you ready to listen?" He questioned. I slowly nod, my eyes still wide as I stared up at him. "Good now, when I found you, there was a mark left on your stomach. A sealing mark. You and Naruto are alike now. You now possess the two tailed demon cat."
*three years later*
So much time had passed since then. We eventually learned the name of the group that attacked me that night. They go by the Kuyamu which means to lament. However that was all we knew. I never fully confided in neither Kakashi nor the Hokage about that night either. About them saying that I would seek them out for power. How could I? Both my brothers are rogue ninja and I now possess a tailed beast. They would probably expect me to follow their steps and they would lock me down into the village. Yet Lady Fifth had allows me to freely take missions however only with a special designed team they placed me in. No doubt that the elders as well as the Feudal Lord had to agree with her on my team placement.
"Yukina! I finally found you! It's time for us to go. We've found everything we could in this village. We need to move out to the last location on the list. Hopefully this next one isn't a dead end." I glanced over my shoulder, seeing Kakashi walking up to me. He was the exception. If I wasn't with my team then I was allowed to join with Kakashi. He had mostly recovered from overusing his eyes so while his team was out on a mission, Tsunade sent us to gather some intel about the Kuyamu. According to the information we received, they have been gathering in a few areas, specifically around shrines.
I climbed to my feet and dusted myself off. "Hey uh Kakashi? Do you think the others have found him yet?" I ask, my mind wandering elsewhere. He pauses for a moment and studies my face before answering.
"I'm not sure. We don't know for certain if that Akatsuki member was telling us the truth but I'm sure they can handle it. But now that I think about it, we haven't eaten yet. Why don't we take a break before we head out to the last location?" He offers, attempting to distract me. My mind was already too far gone though.
"Um, I'm not really hungry but I would like something to drink," I replied, my eyes fluttering around uneasily. He then places his hand on my head.
"Hey. Look at me." His voice was firm yet warm. After a deep breath, my eyes finally meet his. "Breathe. Don't focus on anything else, just listen to my voice."
I go to turn my head away but he quickly stops me from doing so. A gasp escapes my lips and my eyes widen slightly as I look up at him again tears welling up in my eyes. "I told you before, you won't go through this alone. I am here and I won't let anything happen to you. Focus on me right now. Take a deep breath and relax your body. Let go of all that tension."
I blink a few times causing some of the tears to spill down. He then reached for my hand and shows me my clenched fist. My nails had turned into claws and were digging into my palm. Blood was trickling out and I look down to see the other hand was the same. I unclenched my hand and watched as my wounds slowly began to close. My claws began retracting and my chest slowly felt lighter. My body was on the brink of a panic attack but Kakashi grounded me back to reality. He goes to speak but before he could I stepped forward and embraced him, nuzzling my face into his jacket. He wrapped one arm around me and remained there until I was ready to let go. I stayed there for a few moments before pulling away, my eyes red from crying.
"It's alright. Now try to eat at least a few bites of something before we go, yeah?" I nodded, rubbing my eyes and following close behind him. Over the years, Kakashi had became my confidant. While I never really spoke out on how I was feeling, I never really needed to. He was patient with me and never pressured me to share anything I didn't want to. At first he was awkward about it but he soon learned my antics and was able to figure out what methods worked to get me to calm down.
We stopped at a little shop and sat down to order food. An older lady came up to us to for our order. We ended up both ordering onigiri and she smiled at us, nodding before walking away. The shop was empty except for us and the elderly staff that ran the shop. It was quiet and peaceful. The lady soon came back with some tea and our food however she had given us extra in a bento box.
"Here you are my dears. Some extra for your journey too," she smiles gently.
"Oh, well thank you we appreciate it but-" Kakashi starts by gets cut off.
"Now now, it's alright. Things have been rather quiet around here and it's always nice to see a young gentleman treat his younger sister to a meal. Now you kids enjoy and I'll be back around to check on you later." The way she spoke sounded like she was speaking to her own grandchildren, very warm and gentle. She even confused me and Kakashi for being related. I suppose with him around it does kinda feel like I still have an older brother around.
I looked down at the food, my stomach rumbling from how good it looked, and happily ate. Seeing as there was no one else here, Kakashi also decided to take off his mask to eat and enjoy his food. It's not the first time he's done that around me. While we usually don't share meals together, he quickly learned that if he wanted me to let my guard down, he had to do the same.
After we finished our meal, the lady came back around like she said. "Don't worry about payment, it's on the house. But do be careful heading out. There's been some ruffians lurking around the area."
"Ruffians?" Kakashi asks, still taking out some money and places it on the table. The lady smiled at his kindness and placed a hand on his.
"Young man. Do you know your father once saved my husband's life? You look just like him. But really it's okay. If you insist on something then just do this small village a favor and scare off those ruffians. They were last seen a few days ago leaving the shrine on the hill. From what I heard they've been visiting nearby shrines. There's seven in total and who knows what they're doing but every time they reach the next shrine then the previous one gets destroyed. I believe five have been destroyed already. If you could stop them before ours gets destroyed then we'd be most grateful."
It sounds like she's talking about the Kuyamu which means we really are on the right path for tracking them down. Kakashi gives the lady a soft smile and bows slightly. "Of course. I'll do what I can. And thank you again for the food." He puts his money away as well as our extra food before leaving the little shop.
"The last stop is only half a day from here so whatever it is that they're doing, it takes time for them to set up. We'll need to hurry to get there before they finish. So let's head out." Kakashi orders as he summons his tracking dogs. He gives one a scroll where he jotted down the information to send back to the Hokage. And with that we took off to our next destination.
