As I walked up the street to my house, I saw my dad's truck in the driveway. I pulled my keys out of my jacket pocket. I walk through the gate and up the stairs I pull open the screen door. Entering the front door, I could hear my dad arguing with someone. "Baba?" I called as I closed the front door locking it too. I dropped my bag on the couch,seeing a suitcase by the hall closet, I walking towards the kitchen. The voices got louder, I stop at the kitchen doorway "I told you I would solve that problem; you should have listened to me!" my dad shouted in Chinese  "Baba?" I called as I walked into the kitchen I saw him in the dinning room, he turned and saw me "I call you after the meeting." he said hanging up the phone " Baba what's going on?" I asked him "It doesn't concern you, how was school?" he asked. "Made a new friend maybe."

 "That's good. Well I have a business trip to go on this weekend I leave Friday afternoon; so I won't be back until Tuesday night. Will you be OK?" he asked gathering his papers off the table to put in his briefcase. "Baba I'm not six anymore. As long as there food and electric, I'll be fine." I said. I went in the fridge pulling out the orange juice "Glass." Dad said "I know, I do  do dishes you know." I said grabbing a glass out of the cabinet, pouring me a glass before putting it back in the fridge. "Alright, I left some cash on the bar it should last you until I get back." he said as I put my empty glass in  the sink. "Alright be safe and I love you." I said as I followed him to the living room.

"I will be back, Love you and don't destroy the house while I'm gone." he said as he got in his truck, "Need friends to destroy a house." I said as I walk with his truck as he backed out. "No true, you teens always find a way." he laughed "Not this one." I called out as he drove away. 

I went back inside locking the door behind me, I grabbed my bag cutting off  all the lights before going upstairs to my room. I walked in closing the door, I dropped my bag on my bed, kicking off my shoes. I still had a hour before I  had to go to work. I sat at my desk, pulling out my other sketch book looking at the picture of my mom, I sighed "If you could see me now Mama." I closed my pad and put it back in the desk draw. 

I head to the bathroom to take a quick shower, I turned on the shower; strip down and got it. I was just getting out when the door bell rang. "Really?" I asked sighing I quickly wrapped a towel around myself before heading down. I peeped through the peephole, I didn't know who it was, I was just thankful I had turned off the downstairs lights. The person knocked again, I went and grabbed the house phone. I sneak back upstairs, I tore open my backpack. The person started banging on the door, I grabbed the paper with Serphina's number on it and started dialing. "Pick up, Please pick up." I cried "Hello?" she answered "It's me Sayo, look I need your help." I said as I closed and locked my bedroom door. "I'm home alone and there's someone banging on my door." I said looking out my window, I couldn't see them from that angle "What's your address?" she said I told her my address, "We're close." she said before hanging up. 

The door bell rang  three times, I went to my closet; if they do manage to break in I don't want to be wearing just a towel, so I grabbed a pair of dark grey sweatpants and a red tank top. I quickly got dress, putting my wet hair in a ponytail. I sneak down the back stair case to the kitchen, I grabbed a butcher knife when I have a window breaking, I hutch down behind the counter. Crap I left the phone upstairs, I could hear the person walking around, I tried peeking around the counter but couldn't see them. 

I crawled to the other end and saw the person heading towards me, I quickly went to the other end. "Sayo?!" someone called out, the person in the dinning room quickly ran to the back door, "Quick in the kitchen!!" I shouted out, running to the light switch, I flipped the switch up but they were already out the door, I heard feet running. "Where?" a guy said "Out the back." I said pointing, he ran out after them. "Sayo?" Serphina called "In the kitchen." I said sitting the knife down on the counter. She walked in, I looked at her then back to the door. "What happened? There's glass all over the floor." she said pointing behind her, I sighed 

"I was in the shower, when someone rang the doorbell. So I came down to see who it was and they were at the front door." I said I heard footstep and quickly pick the knife back up, "Its just me." the guy said walking back in, I walked over to the knife block putting the knife up. I turned to face them, "Sayo this is Gale." she said as he walked around the counter to shake my hand "Nice to meet you." he said smiling "Well this wasn't the way I wanted to met you but thank you for coming over to help." I said "Well I wasn't busy and was already heading home when Serphina  called me." he said leaning back on the counter. "Do you know what this was about?" she asked "No, I just got home, my Baba just left." I said as I went to the closet to grab the broom and dust pan.

 "Wow maybe they had the wrong house." she said following me up the hallway, "Let me do it," Gale said taking the broom and dust pan from me "You don't have any shoes on." I looked down, "Oh thanks." I said walking around the couch to sit down. "Do you want to call your dad?" Serphina  said joining me on the couch, "No I'll get the window fixed tomorrow." I said looking at it, "I should get something to cover it with though." getting up I head back to the kitchen "Do you even have anything that big?" she called out "Well I guess I could use trash bags and duck tape." I said walking back with a roll of bag and a roll of tape holding them up. 

"Well its a good thing Stretch is here." she laughed pointing to her brother, who groaned "Thanks so much for volunteering me sis." he said leaning the broom and dust pan on the wall, walking over to take the bag and tape from me. "Um I think we have a ladder in the shed out back." I said opening the hall closet to get my shoes and a jacket out; putting both on.

 I went out the back door to the shed I pulled the little string cutting on the light. I lift the ladder off the wall walking back out. I went around the house, Gale and Serphina was already standing out front. " You can get that side and I'll get this side." Gale said taking the ladder from me setting it up on the side. I climbed the stairs leaning over to get the bag from Serphina "So its just you here by yourself?" Gale said "For now." I said handing Serphina the tape so she could get the back of the window. "Its just you?" Serphina said "When you said you were home alone, I thought." "Well yea I am because my baba just left to go out of town tonight." I said "So you stay with your grandparents?" he asked "No." I said "So who is Baba?" he asked climbing down the ladder, "My father." I said "Oh I thought you were talking about your grandfather." he said folding the ladder up, I point to the back of the house "The shed is in the back, I will leave the back door unlock so you can get back in." I said climbing the front stairs. "Okey-dokey." he said walking around the house,Serphina followed me locking the door behind herself. "So now I have to use my check to pay for the window." I said walking to the kitchen to make sure the back door was still unlock for Gale. "Where do you work?" she asked following me, "The Diner." I said getting out three cokes from the fridge; Gale walked in with a cold breeze, "Brrr it's getting cold out." Gale said sitting at the counter "Well do y'all want hot chocolate instead?" I asked.
