~Nicky POV~
I woke up unaware of where I was. I blinked the sleep out of my eyes and found myself staring at a small TV on the wall. That's when it all hit me. I had thrown myself in front of Lindsey's car when she was on her way to the camp bus. I'm in a hospital. I diverted my attention from the TV to see the plain hospital bed sheets I was under and the curtains that surrounded. I looked over and Lindsey was sleeping in a chair next to my bed. I wonder how long she's been here.
On the bedside table there were gifts and cards that my family had brought. There was a container of food there too. I reached to grab the container, but couldn't. I looked down at my arm to find that it was in a cast. I remembered that when I crashed, I was slow to move my arm away and it had gotten caught in between my body and the bike. Guess I'll grab it later.
Lindsey, finally awake, sat up and stretched. She looked at me wide eyed when I saw that I was up too.
"Um. Good morning," I said.
Without a word she stood up, walked towards my bed and slapped me in the face. She stood there silently then collapsed onto me in a hug.
"I thought you were gone," she whispered.
"I'm sorry," I hesitated, "I just couldn't let you leave out of no where."
"So you throw yourself in front of a moving car?"
"I-"
"You're so stubborn. Also I'm... sorry for slapping you."
Lindsey touched her forehead to mine. She brought forward her hands and cupped my face.
"Don't ever do that again," she warned and leaned in to peck me on the cheek.
There was a knock on the door and Lindsey pulled back as a nurse walked in.
"I'll need you to leave so that I can check her condition." Lindsey waved as she left the room and the nurse walked up.
"So based on your results you'll need to wear this cast until at least January. Your legs might be a little sore, but that's just cause the muscles are pulled a bit. Stretch daily to maintain their flexibility. Other than that you are good to leave."
I can leave! On her dismissal I left the room and found Lindsey and my family in the lobby. Lindsey smiled at me and I smiled back. She walked up to me with her hands behind her back. Is she hiding something?
"I know the last time I handed you a piece of paper it was bad news, but I promise that this is way better," she said and handed me an envelope.
I opened the envelope and saw that it was an invitation to a Christmas party. And it wasn't school organized. It was a real party that Lindsey was hosting a place that she reserved.
I waved the paper and said, "Now this is news that I like to hear. I'll see you there."
Lindsey started to walk away, but turned back.
"Oh! Bring the entire crew," she winked and walked out of the hospital.
I left with my family and asked them what day it was. Turns out today was December 3rd and I had been knocked out for two days. I couldn't wait to go back and see everyone.
