I twist the doorknob, opening up the wooden door. Aria was busy today, I couldn't go to her house, unfortunately. I peek in, calling a hello. I hear no reply so I step in and close the door. I hear footsteps and suck in my breath. I turn and see a women with long brown hair, and tan skin.
"Hello, Thea." Mom says.
"Hi." I reply, taking off my shoes and putting them on the rack in the closet. I trot into the kitchen, pulling out my lunch it and placing it on the counter. I swing my backpack over my shoulder.
"I'm going to go do homework!" I call.
"Good." She replies.
I blink slowly, and head to my room, closing the door behind me. I sit down at my desk, pausing for a second with my head in my hands. I inhale a shaky breath. My phone vibrates in my pocket. I sit up and pull it out, glancing at the door. I look, and a number I don't know texted me: "Hiya! Is this Thea?"
I unlock my phone and reply: "Yes, who are u?"
"Tris. I got your number from a friend."
We begin talking, mainly about our year, since he had moved here a week or two ago. We chat and chat, while I do my homework. I don't think I've smiled that much in awhile.
"Thea! Dinner's ready!" I sigh, the worst part of the day. I text him that I had to go. Opening the door to my room, and trot down the stairs and into the dining room. Dinner's on the table and I sit down. My mom's already sitting, and we dish up. She looks at me and nods, swallowing.
"How'd your day go?" She asks.
"Good, I guess." I mutter. She huffs, and uses her fork to stab a piece of chicken on her plate.
"Any tests you got back? Any projects?" She questions with a gruff voice.
"Oh- I got 80% on my science test," I say, staring at my plate.
"80%? Are you kidding?" She says. I clench my jaw and look up. "That's hardly an A!" She says, standing up and slamming the cutlery she was using at the table. I tense and close my eyes, waiting to wake up. I hear footsteps.
"Look at me." I hear.
"Look at me, fool." I hear.
I look up at her.
"You dumbass." She snarls. I close my eyes again. Oww! I think, gritting my teeth. I feel the burning pain on my upper arm. I open my eyes again, and she her walking up the stairs. I look at my red arm, and I sigh. I try so hard. I swear. Some days I just want to curl up in my blankets and never come out again.
