Ashten Norwood is your classic snobby elitist. She's grown up being taught that she is entitled to the world and that she should never settle for less than the absolute best. Take, for example, the fact that her father bought her way into Harvard. Or her long-time boyfriend (soon-to-be fiance), Richard James Banning III, who also happens to be heir to one of the largest oil corporations in world. It was a match made in heaven, or so their parents thought when they forced Ashten and Richard together while Ashten was still in middle school. Ashten likes Richard, but she's fairly certain she's not in love with him, and she's terrified to admit that to herself or anyone else.

Enter Louis, the insanely hot, friendly and ambitious pool boy that the Norwoods have hired for the summer. Ashten is intrigued by him, and decides to follow him one night as he goes out with his friends. She discovers that he seems to be genuinely liked and even...happy, but how can that be possible when he's just a lowly servant and comes from a struggling middle-class family, working his way through life?
