Quod Draco vocationem scriptor
(Mage's pov.)
I am Mage, child of Lord Anfarwol of Dragonwall. I say, child, because I am under the guise of a man. The secret that shan't ever be told. But my other one, that's a secret I hope to share. This story starts the day of Emerys's arrival in Camelot. It was a lovely spring day and I was in my chambers overlooking the execution of the sorcerer boy when I spotted him. He looked so out of place in the courtyard that I knew he wasn't from around Camelot. I sighed as I drank the draught that Gaius had brewed for me and dawned my amor and cloak. Grabbing my sword and my quiver I headed down to the training grounds.
"Sir Mage... Are you alright?" I heard Gwen ask. I smiled at her and replied," As good as I can be on this fine day. It's Wednesday, dear Gwen."
Gwen looked at me with wonder in her eyes and I smiled. Wednesday was the day I went and fed Kilgharrah on the King Uther's orders. I head towards the kitchens and grabbed the leftover bones and headed down towards the last Great Dragon's cell.
Once there I placed the bones in a pile on the cavern's walls and called out to him," Kilgharrah!"
"Mage... as always. What is it that is on your mind young warlock?" The Dragon asked in answer
"Emerys he has arrived today. I know it's him... Is the end of Uther's rein near so? Will magic be free soon? Or is this the sign of darker days?" I asked.
"Truly young Dragon Lord one such as your self should already know that?" Kilgharrah replied cryptically as ever.
I shook my head and replied," Never change dear Kilgharrah never change."
Then went about my normal duties.
{the next day}
"I am looking for Sir Mage's chambers?" I heard a young boy's voice ask.
"upstairs, to the left and the only set of doors with door knocker on them," one of the servent's replied. A few minutes later the boy who I expected to be Emerys walked in. I smiled at him and told him," There is a reason for the knocker lad."
"Didn't mean to intrude, Sir," he replied. I laughed," I am messing with you... Please, my Friends just call me Mage."
"your Friends?" he asked. I chuckled and answered," Yes, I hope that is what we will become."
He eyed me worriedly as I took the vile from his hands and left. I meet Arthur and some of the knights in training in the courtyard and chided him when I saw his treatment of the manservant," Arthur... leave the poor lad alone."
"what? it is moving target practice" He replied. I sighed and said," Then he should at least have some protection in case someone misses. After all most of these boys are still that, boys."
"Sir Mage?" I heard Merlin ask. I smiled and said," Prince Arthur, This is Merlin Guise's new delivery runner as of right now anyway."
"Must be good if Guise trust with you with Sir Mage's droughts then," Arthur said. I smiled and said," He is speedy. Now Lady Helen's arrival is due at soon after sunset."
"Very well... It's nice meeting you Merlin," Arthur parted as we left the courtyard.
(Merlin's Pov.)
{the next day}
Just like the morning before I woke to the whispering of my name. It sounded ancient and magical but who it was. I sighed as I helped out Guise throughout the day. Around lunch Guise commented," your mother asked me to look after you."
"yes," I responded.
"What did your mother say to you about your gifts?" He asked.
I sighed and replied, "Well, that I was special."
"You are special. The likes of which I've only seen once before."
"What do you mean?"
"well, magic requires incantations, spells, years to study. What I saw you do was elemental, instinctive."
I sighed," What's the point if it can't be used?"
"That I do not know. You are a question that has never been posed before, Merlin," Guise answered.
"Did you ever study magic?" I inquired.
"Uther banned all such work 20 years ago."
"why?"
"People used magic for the wrong end at that time. It threw the natural order into chaos. Uther made it his mission to destroy everything from back then, Even the Dragons."
I looked at him in shock and asked," Wait, all of them?"
The door opened to reveal Sir Mage and he answered for Guise," There was one dragon. The king chose not to kill. Kept him as an example. He imprisoned him in a cave deep beneath the castle."
"Mage... what brings you here?" Guise asked. The knight smiled and said," I need to talk to Merlin."
Guise looked at me then back to the knight and then replied," indeed... I have to get some more herbs anyways."
Then he left. Mage looked at me then smiled softly," Don't worry Merlin. I already know of your Magic."
"You're not here to arrest me are you?" I asked. He laughed and said," I would have to arrest my self if that was the case."
"You have magic?" I asked. He winked then I saw his features turn more feminine in structure. They smiled and said," I am Mage daughter of Lord Anfarwol of Dragonwall, Husband to Lady Rosltien one of the last Dragonlords."
"you're a girl?" I asked.
She frowned than replied," yes... that veil you brought me yesterday was a gender concealer that Guise has concocted explsiliy for me."
"How do you know of the dragon?"
"All magical beings can feel one another, but besides that, I am the appointed guardian of Kilgharrah's cavern, and of Kilgharrah himself, and Uther has no idea that I am a dragonlord. But I am here to give you this key. It leads to Kilgharrah's cavern and should you ever need some advice or should you have a call to it, you can open the gate without magic. Good luck Merlin," She replied then as soon as she turned around I saw her features turn more to the male side and she left.
My questions for about her remained.
Arthur's pov.
Me and Mage were training on the grounds when I he asked," So.. what do you think of Guise little helper?"
"There is something about him, I don't know what but he's different," I sighed then said," A good different."
"Aye, he is. Something that even a watchful guard could oversee," He replied. I chuckled and said," like yourself?"
"Hush you, Now go train with the others," He shooed me off and I left.
Merlin's Pov.
"Merlin, Merlin" I heard the ancient voice whisper. Taking up Mage's advise I grabbed the key and my jacket then left Guise's quarters following the sound to the dungeons. After distracting the guards I continued to follow the sound reaching the gate I unlocked it with the key and followed the tunnel, the whispers getting louder the farther I went. I arrived in a cavern and Saw Mage practising magic as well as a dragon.
The dragon chuckled and Mage turned to face me and smiled, "Merlin, This Kilagharrah, the last of the Great Dragons."
"How small you are for such a great destiny," The dragon said
"Why what do you mean? What destiny?"
"Your gift Merlin, was given to you for a reason."
Mage smiled and said," The same as mine."
"What reason?"
"Ha... Arthur is the Once and Future King who will unite the land of Albion."
"Right."
"But he faces many threats, from Friend and Foe a like."
I gumbled," I don't see what that has to do with me?"
Mage replied," Everything!"
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Without you, Arthur will never succeed, Without you, there will be no Albion, and Without the both of you Magic will stay forbidden and die out, "He responded.
"This can't be right."
"There is no right and wrong only what is and isn't."
Mage smiled," It's our destiny."
"None of us can choose our destiny, and none of us can escape it."
I shook my head and left.
{the next day}
Mage's pov.
I sighed as I fastened my cloke on around my tunic then headed out to the feast. Once there and found Arthur I hung around him until we saw Morgana.

"God have mercy," Arthur breathed out. I muttered under my breath," Mother magic save me."
We went and conversed with her until Uther called for dinner with the trumps. I went to sit down in my spot but when Lady Helen started to sing I covered my ears knowing from my own studies of magic that what she was sing was not song bant a incatation of endless sleep. I saw Merlin do the same and when she pulled the knife I knew that she was not Lady Helen but the witch from the execution. Merlin made the chandelier fall, and as everyone woke up I held my breath as the hidden spell fell.
She threw the knife and without a second thought, I saw Merlin's eyes glow gold then the knife slow as he pushed Arthur out of the way.
"You saved my boy's life, a debt must be repaid," Uther thanked Merlin. I smiled softly to my self as I knew what was about to happen.
"there is no..." Merlin began.
"Don't be so modest, you shall be rewarded," Uther continued.
"No, you don't have to your highness."
"No, absolutely. This meits something quite special."
"Well..."
"You shall be rewarded a position in the royal household, You shall be Prince Arthur's Manservant."
"Father!"
