Chapter 3
Singe awoke to a cloudy day, it had been two months since the assassins had layed the trap and had questioned her. She had begun to see more of the white assassin as he stalked the forest, she knew he still thought she was a man and was trying to see her face. Singe stared across the camp her wound fully healed, she spotted red organising a group to go hunting for more resources to keep them all well fed. She leaned against the wall of her hut he hood over her head and a smile on her face, she closed her eyes temporarily as she soaked up the sun. Everyone had been a bit edgy as if a battle was coming, Singe knew she would have to be ready if there was one. She opened her eyes to spot the bushes moving slightly, instantly she jumped up onto the roof of her hut and spotted the almost invisible green cloak of Arno. She jumped down into the bushes nearby and walked out into a well hidden clearing knowing he would have seen her by now, and she was correct as he slowly made his way out from the cover of the undergrowth.
"What is it now?" She asked still having a cracked voice from a slight fever she had from her cut getting slightly infected, he hesitated before replying.
"Well Altair has been on edge since we kinda captured you and we dunno why, all we know is that he keeps re living the day we think you keep mentioning," Arno murmured loudly, Midnight nodded.
"Well serves him right for leaving me to die," she hissed through gritted teeth, Arno winced slightly his gaze fixed on the ground.
"W-well the other reason I came to you is because we are low on supplies and Altair seems to be so distant he thinks he gave everything while he has nothing and the guards have doubled so we can't even go to town to get a mere penny worth of food," Arno hesitantly muttered, Singe knew that if her enemies were to pay by her hands she would have to keep them alive.
"I will send a few of my scouts to this clearing with some rations but not a lot since I have more people to care for than you do, make sure you bring a friend along to carry it all," she warned heading back towards the camp, she found a small group of scouts.
"Oh hey Singe how you doin?" One of them asked, she dipped her head.
"Very good thanks now I want each of you to grab a small crate of food and follow me, it seems our enemies beg for food because their leader is a day dreamer," she half heartedly joked, the group nodded and obeyed her each grabbing a crate of food and following her. They soon arrived at the clearing where they saw Arno waiting with Ezio, only now did she realise that they looked exhausted and worried.
"You came, I began to think you were lying," Arno sighed, Ezio nodded to them.
"Well be lucky since we also need rations but we have better ways of getting it then buying it, we simply hunt and gather since it's easier, only in winter when the snows come in will we buy from the town," Singe scoffed, the scouts placed the crates down near the two, she gestured for them to return to camp and they did.
"We thank you deeply even though we are enemies," Ezio muttered picking up two of the crates, Arno carried the remaining two and gave a nod before turning and following the blue assassin. Singe turned back towards camp feeling particularly sorry for Arno since he did not deserve anything since he was still so new to assassins world, she shrugged it off as she arrived at the camp. She noticed that Red had left with the hunting party, she sat down in the shade looking at the sky thinking. She noticed how the clouds swelled with upcoming rain, she watched as everyone began to move the food and medicine up to higher ground where a hidden storage cave was. Singe knew a terrible storm was coming and she stood, she walked over to the large rock and gathered as many people as she could that were not moving stuff.
"I want everyone to go to the storage cave until the storm passes ok, I shall send Sara to go find the others and tell them where we have gone ok," she called, they all nodded and Sara turned and ran off into the forest as a large gust of wind shook the trees. Singe began to help the injured ones up the mountain and towards the cave where they would be safe, with a lot of effort they all made it safely.
"Will they be ok?" Raven asked her oddly purple eyes staring off down the mountain as they all awaited the groups return, Singe gave a nod knowing red would never be frightened of a dangerous but simple storm.
"They will return don't worry Raven," she muttered half hoping she was right, she knew that if they didn't make it before the storm broke they would have to shelter in the trees somewhere until it passed. Her eyes widened as she spotted them running quickly towards the cave, they soon reached it and began to climb the tree roots that hung thickly out of the ground allowing access to the cave. It then came to reds turn to climb up when suddenly rain plummeted down from the dark cloud, with the rain came the brown assassin Connor who grabbed reds cloak as he flew threw the air taking red with him. The two tumbled down the mountain hitting almost every rock and tree, Singe was about to run after them when lightning hit the mouth of the cave. She watched as they hit the bottom of the mountain, they were both still until Connor moved and ran off into the forest. She waited for red to move ever so slightly but when he didn't she ran down the hill not caring what tried to stop her, she soon reached him and checked him pulse. One side of his head was coated with blood and his eyes and mouth were opened as if to scream for help but no noise came out, her eyes went wide as she felt his neck for a pulse to find one of his neck bones had cut through his jugular during the fall. She backed up shakily, her one and only trusted friend who had saved her that one day was now gone. Her eyes drifted to the bleeding brown shape in the trees, she saw a smirk on his face even through the rain. Suddenly feeling new power fill her body she charged at him, taken by surprise he was knocked into a tree by the force of her charge. She unsheathed her swords and held them to his neck, her eyes narrowed as rage filled her body.
"Connor where are y.........." Arno began calling when he noticed Singe standing over him with a sword to his throat, his head tilted with confusion.
"Tell him Connor why don't ya!" She yelled at him from over the sound of the rain, Connor didn't move his gaze never leaving her face.
"Wh-what's going on?" Arno asked still confused, Singe looked at him with a hostile stare. She pointed her free sword to the limp body of red, his eyes widened at the sight.
"Your friend here decided to knock him off the mountain and it killed him during the fall!" She hissed her sword pressing down harder onto his neck but not causing it to bleed, Arno gave Connor a stare his gaze filled with shock.
"Well don't just stand there help me you fool!" Connor scolded, Arno shook his head and back up.
"You attacked them after they helped us do you realise how much trouble we will be in thanks to you!" Arno yelled, Singe let Connor up and dissapeared back up the mountain and into the cave. She sat down near the back her eyes narrow with anger, Sara sat down beside her trying to comfort her. She shrugged it off grief stabbing at her heart while anger took over her head, she put her head on her knees unable to cry due to the anger and sadness that mixed her emotions all together.
*************
The rain soon died down and the group of cold, tired and heartbroken assassins walked out of the cave. Singe gathered a small group to bury red as he deserved a proper burial, she carved his name into a stone in which they buried him near. She knew that Connor would have been punished by the others but she still wanted revenge, she wanted to watch him die slowly and painfully.
"Why do you keep staring at the forest like that?" Sara asked suddenly, midnight jumped at the sudden voice.
"I am going to go do something I want you to organise a hunting party immediately while I am gone," Singe murmured running off into the forest her mind fixed on the one place she knew they would be, she did not care for the branches that hit her face or the bushes that scratched her legs. She soon arrived at the cave where the assassins had taken her, she could tell that they were in there from the fresh smell of food. Blending with the shadows she snuck down into the small cavern, three of them were sitting by a wall opposite where Connor lay on his ledge. Her eyes narrowed at the sight of the brown assassin, she extended her hidden blades accidentally making enough noise to disturb the four of them. Arno shook his head while Altair and Ezio squinted to see in the darkness, she slowly made her way towards the sleeping brown assassin. She climbed up onto the ledge her cloak keeping her hidden, she snuck up to Connors side. She lifted an arm to stab him but the emerging sun made it glint in the darkness catching the attention of the three, Connor slowly woke and gave a sudden scream by the surprise. Singe leapt down from the ledge and ran out of the cave, she heard only two pairs of footsteps behind her. She jumped up the nearest tree to confuse them, down below she saw Altair and Arno looking around for her. She leapt down behind them her blades extended, they both turned around instantly.
"Why were you trying to kill Connor?" Altair asked his gaze forever twisted with curiosity and confusion, her eyes narrowed at them.
"He will pay for killing red," she hissed through her teeth, both exchanged glances before nodding at something.
"We will punish him deeply but will not kill him," Altair sighed, she gave a nod.
"Make sure he does because if I find him with no scars or bruises next time I see him he will die," she muttered angrily running off, she knew they would not follow her since they knew she was heading back to the camp. She slowed herself to a walk to think, she knew that she would spy on their target meeting tonight to find out their target and kill it before their very eyes.
Things are beginning to get interesting don't ya think?
