Chapter 5

Altair awoke to the rising sun, the previous night left him thinking. He had not told the others what he had seen since they would just bug him with more questions, he sat up on his makeshift bed of vines and leaves and whatever soft stuff he could find in the forest. Arno was slowly stirring nearby, Altair knew he would have to tell them before tonight. He gave a stretch and a small yawn, Arno did the same and the other two slowly awoke. Altair stood up brushing a leaf off of his shoulder, he looked at the others trying to think of what to say.

"Morning guys," Arno yawned, he stretched then stood up as did the others.

"What's the plan Altair, what's going on today?" Ezio asked, Altair shook himself out of his deep trance.

"Well I know I few more things about the black assassin Singe, Singe is no he but a she I found out when I managed to tackle her last night I saw her face but only just since it was dark," Altair murmured aloud, the others looked shocked at his discovery.

"Nice but how on earth did a girl get that good?" Connor asked now realising he had made a big mistake killing red, Altair shrugged.

"I don't know probably Years of training with that assassin," Altair muttered shrugging it off, Arno was staring off into the distance thinking.

"Ok so one question answered but we still need to know why she wants to kill us," Arno pointed out, the others nodded agreeing.

"Well one step at a time here," Altair muttered half to himself, he began to climb his way out of the cave.

Singe sat up yawning, she half expected red to be by her side but the thought only soured her mood. The four now had to pay for two things they had done to her, she stood up putting her hood over her face and walked outside. A spark of pride flashed in her eyes when she noticed how quickly everyone was recovering after the storm, she gave a sigh when reds limp body flashed in her mind. She knew that she would have to get over the shock and pain, she also knew she would have to pick a new second in charge. She walked over to the large rock where Sara stood, both waved in greeting.

"Hey Sara can you do me a favour?" Singe asked, Sara nodded.

"Yeah what's up?" Sara asked walking closer, Singe thought about how she would ask her.

"Sara since reds death we have needed a new second in command and you're my most trusted friend so would you take up the honour of being my second in command?" Singe asked, Sara's eyes went wide in shock.

"Of course I will, I would never ever reject an offer as great as this," Sara squeaked, Singe felt a surge of relief at this.

"Thank you Sara now please organise a hunting party, our food stock is getting too low," She pointed out, Sara nodded.

"I will do it right away," she squealed before running off to gather some people, Singe felt happy for Sara as Sara was reds sister and she too would be suffering from the shock of his sudden death. Walking away from the area Singe went wherever her feet took her, to her surprise she was heading for the forest. She followed a narrow path through the thickly packed forest, everything was oddly silent as she went. Rustling sounded nearby catching her attention, the glimpse of something brown made anger flare in her chest. Suddenly something sharp went through her side, looking down she saw the tip of a sharp blade on her right. Turning her head to her attacker Singe waited for him to pull it out before turning and twisting his arm to the breaking point, she noticed that this one had a new cloak so she slammed him into a tree.

"GET OUT HERE NOW CONNER YOUR FRIEND FAILED TO KILL ME SO STOP HIDING COWARD!!!" She shouted into the forest, at the sound of his name Conner stepped out of the shadows smirking.

"If it isn't my favourite enemy, but I am no coward since it is time to settle things once and for all," he laughed, Singe winced as blood trickled from the wound the other assassin gave her.

"Your right it is time to settle things," she hissed at him through gritted teeth before lunging, he narrowly dodged her as she charged at him. While he was caught off guard Singe kicked him in the back making him collapse for a moment, swinging her blades she knew what trick he was pulling. He suddenly surged upwards only to realise he had just made a mistake, without a moments hesitation she pinned him to a tree making sure he couldn't get free.

"Kill me then why don't ya?" He sneered, the snapping of twigs told Singe that the other three were coming. She growled at him before taking her swords and running away, she heard chatting behind her but was a great distance away before they dared to try to follow.

**************

Walking through the forest Altair tried to think, the sound of fighting up ahead disturbed his thoughts so he hurried onwards. Arno and Ezio followed close behind, they soon arrived in a clearing where they saw Connor pinned to a tree by sharp objects. Helping their friend down they looked around, Connor rolled his shoulder about before speaking.

"She was here again, bashed me up for no reason she did," he lied, Altair knew he was fibbing.

"Don't lie she simply wants revenge because YOU killed that red assassin for no damn reason during that storm!" Altair snapped surprising them all yet again, Connor lunged at Altair only to fly straight into a tree.

"Oof!" He grunted as he slammed into it, Altair stood his fist clenched into tight balls making his knuckles go white.

"REMEMBER THE CREED YOU UNGRATEFUL FOOL!" Altair yelled grabbing Connor's hood, a branch snapped in the distance catching his attention.

"Altair something is moving off shall we follow?" Arno asked watching the distance for any movement, Altair nodded.

"Let us hurry, Ezio make sure Connor gets back to that cave and make sure he doesn't leave until I give word," Altair grumbled sneaking off into the bush followed shortly by Arno, catching a flash of black he hurried onwards always silent. They soon came to the edge of the forest and before them was a small stretch of open land then a sudden cliff edge, standing at the edge was the black assassin who they knew as Singe. Her head turned slightly indicating she knew they were there, so both stepped out onto the edge of the cliff near her.

"You keep him alive but why?" She asked not even looking at them, Altair hesitated his response.

"He is a brother to me but today he shall receive punishment," He added quickly, Singe nodded.

"Make sure it's something he will never forget," she muttered before vanishing, Altair stared in confusion at her sudden disappearance. Shrugging it off both he and Arno head back to the cave, he agreed with Singe that this punishment should be something to remember.
