Chapter 1-Empty

I don't know what happened.
I couldn't feel anything. Not my legs, my arms, nor my beating heart. Nothing. It was equivalent to being on novocaine because even my brain was void of any recollection of what happened or who I was.
My vision was doubled and unfocused. But as my eyelids fluttered open, it became more clear.
A woman was kneeling next to me with a tray in her hands. She appeared to be in either her early twenties or late teens, her light brown hair pulled back in a bun and her subdued features facing me. "Oh, I apologize. I didn't intend to awaken you, are you alright?"
At that moment, I felt renewed, cognizant, and alive. Almost like a human again. No longer void of any emotion or organs.
"What happened?" I asked.
She gave me a gentle smile, "It would be wiser for me to introduce myself since you don't know me."
"My names Emila but I'd prefer if you'd call me Mila instead, as I don't care for such formality." She continued. "I've been nursing you back to health ever since we spotted you unconscious on our beaches three weeks ago."
My eyes as wide as saucers, I sat up abruptly but was quickly restrained by Mila.
"A beach?" I worriedly asked.
"What beach!?" I maniacally cried, an intense, desperate feeling washing over me like a tide.
"Well, at Pearlrock Beach of course." She awkwardly explained, "That's where we found you."
But I still wasn't content with just that. "Do you remember what I was wearing?"
"A green dress with a shawl and necklace." She said, giving me a weird glance. "Normal clothes if you ask me." She firmly reassured.
But I was looking for an even more important answer that at this point, I needed to know.
What happened?
But my thoughts were interrupted by Mila.
"Now that you're conscious, I need to ask you a couple questions to see what you still know about yourself. Just respond as clearly and honestly as possible, understood?"
I shakingly shook my head, "Y-yes.."
"Alright, can you recall your name?"
I wasn't sure why and how I remembered. But I did.
"Phiysilya." I murmured hesitantly.
At least... I think?
"Good. What about your age?"
That also came to me.
"18."
"Good. Now this is an important one, what about your family?"
This particular question left me stumped. I tried the best I could to recollect my parents, siblings, and relatives. But Mila noticed my sudden pause, not hesitating to speak.
"Don't remember?" She intently asked.
At that moment, I choose to cave in. There was no point in beating around the bush with this. Was it?
"I-I don't know.."
Mila didn't say anything for a long while. She only nodded and took my hand.
"Don't worry. I'm sure it isn't your fault Phiysilya." She assertively said in a mild tone.
"Can you at least recall what happened before you fell unconscious?" She asked in an understanding tone.
There really was no point in thinking right now. I wasn't just a human being filled with novocaine no longer. I was a broken doll filled with novocaine. No words to assert, nothing to express.
"N-no."
Mila, realizing the gravity of my words, nodded understandingly and left the room. Leaving me in my thoughts once more.
But even after she left, I didn't stop asking myself that very same question.
I couldn't.
Because it kept haunting me, possessing me. Taking over every function, every thought, every movement. It was like a ghost. Vague, shadowy, and evanescent in form. Never leaving me at peace for as long as I lived.
What happened?
