Chapter 15- Remembrance

Before I knew it, me and Laiechen found ourselves in the office waiting in line to check us in.

Laiechen's face had been in a state of sorrow as soon as we passed the waiting room. But I didn't bother her until she quietly whispered to me.

"This was where I was when I found out my grandfather died."

It made sense. Why she suddenly didn't look good when we passed the waiting room.

I looked down at her, taking her hand. "I'm sorry you had to remember that." I apologized sincerely to her before the time came for us to check in.

At the desk, there was a girl of average height with dark brown hair and dark brown eyes who didn't hesitate to greet us.

"Hello, welcome to Pearlrock Beach Sanatorium. May I be of assistance to you?"

I responded in a clear voice, "Yes please, we're here because we have a scheduled appointment with Dr. Varren."

She glanced at her papers for a second.

"Names please?"

"Phiysilya Woodlin and Helmine Arrighetti."

The desk accountant checked Dr. Varren's schedule in the files for three minutes and then turned back to us.

"Why yes, you both are on the list today. Please wait patiently in the waiting room, she will be ready for you momentarily." She instructed, pointing directly to the location.

"Understood, thank you." I thanked her as Laiechen led me and herself to the waiting room which included other patients and small children waiting to checked out.

Me and Laiechen mostly kept to ourselves for most of the time, skimming through newspapers that included the usual. Politics, drama, cosmetics, etc.

But one caption caught my attention quickly. It had something to do with a death involving a patient who died a week prior at Pearlrock Sanatorium of according to Dr. Varren, of 'unknown causes'.

It made me more fearful than anything despite the fact that I knew more than likely, that patient wasn't the first to die here of 'unknown causes' according to Dr. Varren and they certainly weren't the last either.

I thought back to that night where I sneaked to the labs and came across that secret room with all those different substances that didn't look nor smell right.

Were they used on the other patients?

Or on Jemma?

I felt a flood of emotions just from thinking about it. Anxiety, vexation, resentment, and plenty of other emotions words alone wouldn't be able to describe.

"Miss Woodlin and Miss Arrighetti." Called out a stocky, brown-eyed nurse.

Swallowing my pride, I stood up and followed the nurse into the halls.
