Chapter 5- Silence

I hurriedly woke up from that vision.
I have to find my family. The only thing I saw as a priority was to find Eiriam and mother. That was the sole thing I could think to do.
It was my fault.
I searched around the room. Evidently, I knew I wasn't in the same room. While the other room was completely white, dull, and lifeless. This room, in contrast, was much more full of life, with actual color yet still very professional looking.
It wasn't until I focused my eyes that I spotted this time, not Mila, Dr. Kysley, nor Dr. York but a middle-aged woman. She possessed piercing icy blue eyes that scanned me watchfully like an eagle and pure black hair.
"You have been unconscious for three hours Miss Woodlin, are you alright?" She asked, examining me watchfully. I felt uncomfortable around her like there was something very dark about this particular woman.
Despite my distress, I still managed a yes. She nodded politely and proceeded to scribble something in her notes. After a chilling cold silence, she asked me yet another question.
"Miss Woodlin, do you as of now have knowledge of what happened before you blacked out?"
Everything that happened was now clear as day, so I was able to tell her exactly what happened. "Well... I had this dream and it started off with my sister Eiriam waking me up."
I started recalling the agitation in her voice as she shook me awake. Almost like her life depended on it. "I asked her what was going on and she proceeded to explain that the New Burtiontion soldiers were taking hostage people and raiding the town to oblivion. Of course, I was petrified when she mentioned the New Burtiontions."
I didn't dare mention the visions I'd have of the spiritness nor the New Burtiontions ever since I turned five because I knew her reaction would be the same as everybody else's. She'd think I was demented and shun me. But this woman was different. She was far too calm and aloof to the point where I couldn't tell what she was thinking or feeling. It gave me chills that went bone deep.
She looked at me in the eyes, signaling me to continue.
I continued without objections.
"We escaped the area and were almost there. This was when Eiriam revealed to me that my mother was captured by the New Burtiontion soldiers and that she told my sister to find me and escape."
I froze up, pausing for a second, and rushing the story only because I didn't want to recall any minute of that moment. Not one bit.
"Then she was grabbed by a soldier herself. She didn't fight them, she merely told me to run." I revealed, now close to bursting into tears. She reached over and fetched a handkerchief, slowly patting my back.
"Miss Woodlin, I deeply express my sincerest regrets for everything that has occurred."
She quietly let me shed all my inner tears, not pestering me to talk anymore about the situation.
A couple of minutes later when my tears started to diminish, she finally introduced herself. "My apologies dear, I forgot to introduce myself." She chuckled at her own words.
What kind of doctor forgets to introduce themselves to their own patient?, was what I wanted to ask but I didn't. It would be impolite.
"No worries." I calmly stated.
I mean we can all be forgetful.. Even doctors, right?
I tried to reassure myself but my senses wouldn't leave it be. Perhaps that had to mean something, right? I listened intently as she started to introduce herself.
"I'm Dr. Varren, therapist and psychologist." She shook my hand and gave me a warm smile. I was still a bit apprehensive but at least she wasn't as creepy to me as Dr. Kysley and Dr. York in the end. They both frightened me.
"Dr. Varren, what did Dr. Kysley and Dr. York even inject in me?" I cautiously directed. It was appalling to me how before that vision, I was sluggish and clueless but all of a sudden, I was acting more like myself again.
Dr. Varren, noticing the caution in my voice, quickly explained. "What was injected was a recently conceded medicine, our memory syringe." Dr. Varren declared.
"Memory syringes are intended to help patients with particularly severe cases of amnesia or memory loss caused by a traumatic experience or accident that will retrieve your memories."
Dr. Varren reassured me, "So dear don't fret, what was injected is completely safe and beneficial for you."
I had no words to that. Perhaps I should trust that it wasn't harmful. After all, I did feel strangely better.
"I'm afraid we're running out of time. I only need one last thing from you." Dr. Varren took a sheet of paper from a nearby table and proceeded to scrawl something on it.
"Some people report having negative side effects as a result of the memory syringe such as nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and various others so please do report anything."
Dr. Varren was attentive as she listened to what I had to say.
"Hardly, Dr. Varren. In fact, it's the polar opposite. I feel better than I've ever felt in my whole life." I told her directly.
At this, Dr. Varren raised her chin and arched eyebrows. She scrawled something else on the paper, looking a tad appalled.
"Hmmm... interesting... say, you are one of the most responsive patients I have recorded. You have a healthy body to have no side effects."
When I look back on the number of school days I'd had missed and the number of days I've spent in sanatoriums, I'd beg to differ. But I did what I always did. I kept quiet.
"Have a winsome day, Phiysilya." Dr. Varren finished, leaving the room.
Something about Dr. Varren wasn't right. On the other hand, she was less confusional then Dr. Kysley and Dr. York.
I was getting somewhere now that I had my memories back, but now what?
