Sheleim

Hey guys- There are two more chapters of history/backstory. Then we will begin the story through the eyes of the main character Bree.... Please read the history chapters because they are a really important part of the 3 keys trilogy. Thanks so much for reading!

Chapter 3

Deep in the forests of Universal, inside a temple covered with vines, an old man around the age of 60 wearing total black, and a mask that concealed his wrinkled face walked over to his still bowing lieutenant.

"Ramos, I have a very important assignment for you. It will require the most humble part of you." Vikram said, high priest and slave of Sheleim.

Sheliem was an evil serpent that all of the priests worshipped. They made golden and bronze images and bowed down to it frequently. Their minds were distorted by evil and corrupted by sin. The priests had gone away from the Masters ways and were now deep in the path of evil. They said appeasing Sheleim would help keep peace among the people, only the naive believed such things. Sometimes when the people needed something important asked for, they would incorrectly believe that whom the priests worshipped would help them. So they would go to the high priests, who were outlawed to practice their magic but still did it in secret. Then the civilians would pay for a message to be sent to Sheleim.

"The people have strayed from the great ones ways!" The high priest murmured in a ruff voice. "They must be guided, or else good will overtake evil."

A servant slowly walked in the room from around the corner and knelt in front of the high priest, "My lord," he whispered trying not to interrupt him too much.

"What? How dare you disturb me," he firmly looked at the young lad.

"The message you requested me to bring my lord," the servant boy mumbled as he walked towards the high priest.

Then he handed him a scroll of the finest colors. It was sealed by a red serpent that was surrounded by 5 gold rings. The rings signified the 5 different dimensions of the world, Universal being the dimension where they were now. Harmony, Judgment, Eden and Momentous were the others.

Vikram the high priest, held the scroll with his scaly fingers and black nails that hadn't been washed for ages. He grasped the scroll with such evilness that the servant boy trembled. As he walked towards the altar where the sacrifices to Sheleim were made, he took slow tired steps. Then, he kissed the statue to show respect to his god.

The high priest dismissed the servant boy and flicked the scroll so that it landed at Ramos's feet. "Read the scroll my general," Vikram spoke enticingly.

"General?"

"And that's only the beginning. Soon you will be more powerful than you could imagine."

"Thank you my lord."

Vikram turned around slowly, "Say hello to your baby for me, and remember that everything you have was given to you by Sheleim. Never forget that Ramos."

"My baby," He asked excitedly. "It's born?"

"Yes."

"May I go now my lord?" He joyfully asked, and bowed down to Vikram.

"Read the scroll when everything has settled down at home Ramos. Do whatever is necessary to complete your quest. Remember who gave you all that you have. Give back to him what is his without hesitation."

"Yes my lord," he nodded in agreement. With that, Ramos scrambled outside of the temple and through the tress into a town bursting with noise.

Ramos walked through the streets of Universal with pep in his step. His heart was racing, almost as if it was going to burst! He couldn't wait to see his new born child.

Ramos was a very handsome man, jet black hair just like his 3 year old boy. He had a tall muscular stature. He wore thin leather armor under his shirt and arm pads. Oh his eyes were simply stunning! His eyes were colored by a purple haze and rich midnight black which was unusual for citizens who were not of royalty.

If only Ramos hadn't let evil overtake his heart he would still have a young glow to him. But unfortunately he was being corrupted by evil, and corruption changes people dramatically.

The sky had a light twist of purple in it today, and the sun shone brightly. It matched his eyes marvelously.

So many people were out and about on market day. His wife would need him to shop at the market for them, he thought to himself. With the new baby his days would be busy, but he did not mind. For he had a new child to be thankful for!

As Ramos walked up the cobblestone steps that led to his home, he smelt a luscious smell of roses coming from the flower boxes outside their window sills.

"Natasha, Natasha!" He yelled happily.

"Shhh!" A maid servant whispered as she stepped out of the doorway. "Your wife is sleeping."

"And my baby?" He asked in a quieter voice.

"She's sleeping too, a beautiful baby she is."

"A girl!" His face lit up and turned into an even bigger smile than it was before.

The maid led him upstairs to his family's sleeping quarters and advised him not to wake the baby. She then softly shut the door once Ramos was inside. Still carrying the scroll in his left pocket, he sat down on the bed where Natasha and his new born baby daughter lay.

"My love," he whispered to his wife Natasha. "How are you?"

Her eyelids slowly opened showing huge blue eyes. A smile spread across her tired face. "I couldn't be any better," she laughed.

"I love you," he told Natasha as his lips touched hers with a gentle kiss.

"I love you more," she replied.

"Impossible." A joyful laugh came from Ramos. "So, this is our baby?"

Natasha slowly pushed the baby towards Ramos's arm. "She has your eyes."

As if on cue, the baby girl looked up for the first time into her fathers eyes. Bright fuchsia eyes stared up at his. "Purple eyes," he said, beaming with pride. It looked as though he was about to cry.

"Just like yours," his wife said as she gently drifted off to sleep from exhaustion.
