Chapter 6

Lily's pov

My eyes felt so heavy, like they were being physically held down. Managing to keep them open, it was one of the biggest struggle. Everything looked blurry from the continuous drops of rain... plus the droplets that managed to get in my eyes, mixing with my tears.

However, by what I could see... The monster wasn't there.

Looking beside me, I find my poor friend...

Painfully staggering to my feet, my injured arm wrapping around my abdomen as I wobble towards the car. Pushing through my pain, I grab his Timberland jacket, and shuffle across the road, softly covering him with the soft material.

Why.... Why did this have to happen?

BEEP!

Turning around at the sound of a horn and a siren, I cry in relief.

They're here!

Driving closer, they pull up and park to the side of the road, highlight everything in blue and red.

"Ma'am are you injured? What happened here?" I couldn't contain the tears as they dribbled down my probably rosey cheeks.

Of course I'm injured. I'm covered in blood with a wound to my side, and arm.

Sniffling I start to inform them "m-my friend, Jace and I... We were at college because I had an exhibition, and he wanted to watch" I see the lady scribble down my sentence.

"He didn't want me to walk back alone, so he stayed to drive me back. We are roommates, so it was easier" the young raven maned lady nodded at her partner, an older grey haired chap, who rushed to get the equipment.

I took deep, shaky breaths as the rain continued soak us "He was driving, and something hit our car-" she raised a brow "hit your car?" I shake my head, knowing what she thinks.

"I know, it sounds crazy, but it did. We thought it was a bear, and then our car wasn't starting and... and it scratched the side of the car. It killed a bear, and..." I look at Jaces body that was being taken care of.

"It killed my friend" I state sadly. She makes note, and I add "I managed to injure it... I had no choice. I used a thick stick, I don't think it could get it out" the lady trots everything I mentioned down.

"Don't worry, it's probably dead" I shake my head, no "no, it came back after I did that. It bit me, and it vanished".

A look of wonder and disbelief flashed through her eyes, and I was hoping the wonder was winning, I can't have her thinking I'm crazy.

"What was it?" I couldn't help but chuckle "you wouldn't believe me if I described it" she sighs, and grabs the medical kit.

"Wait, we need to leave first. It's not safe here!" I panic, she tries to calm me, but I didn't allow it "please, listen. We probably don't have much ti-" I cut myself off as I hear rustling to the side of us.

I could feel the blood drain from my face "alert your team to get in the van, we have to go" I whisper, never taking my eyes off the shrubs.

"Ben, check it out" I see a young medic grab some sort of gun "what's he doing?" I say, nerves flowing through me. This is a bad idea.

"He's going to see what's there, and if anything comes, he will have the thing tranquilized. The animal will be ok" she gives a reassuring smile.

"It's not the animal I'm worried about" I whisper.

BANG! BANG!

We both jump, and I groan from my injury "Ben?" The older man of the trio calls.

Small shivers take over my body as the wind picks up by a notch "here" the woman wraps a towel around me, as she slightly lifts my shirt to inspect the wound.

"Thank you" I whisper. She hums as we look at my bite mark. It was leaking with blood, the injury was dark and... Disgusting.

The flesh was gritty, a few bits of under skin was torn more than it should, and I knew if it doesn't stop bleeding soon, I would be in trouble.

"That doesn't look too good" she informs. I nod this time "I'll clean it, and patch it up" I say thanks one more time as I try and relax.

"Get in the van!".

We spin around, me a little slower than her. I see the grey haired man trying to help out the boy "what's-".

The sound of heavy footfalls make its way towards us as the foliage frolic side to side as something large cuts through them.

The brown furry figure slashed Ben through his nape, blood spraying through the air like a fountain.

Pouncing on the second man, talons slicing his flesh to ribbons, liberating his limbs before decapitating his head. The once black floor, now a crimson pool.

The girl screamed so loud, I thought my ear drums would burst. Standing, I grab her, watching as it shot in our direction.

I was shocked at how fast I was moving. I guess it was the adrenaline and shock kicking in, driving me along with my survival instinct.

But the pain hasn't vanished yet.

Sprinting to the large white van was exhausting, the road was wider than we thought it to be, but it's so close now!

We were almost at the large white vehicle until I was tugged back, hitting the ground with a rough thud.

Moaning in discomfort, a small yelp wiggled from my lips as pain shot through my side.

Snapping my gaze up to the wailing woman, who tries to fend off the creature. Their sizes were in great difference, and muscle too.

I get up with hazy eyes. I love the rain, but it's not helping. If anything, it's slowly picking up.

Before I could move from my spot, its rotten jaws clamp around her skull, screams dying with a sickening crunch.

Gagging, I back up, trying to keep it in. With dark dripping crimson lips peeling back in a snarl, dropping skull fragments of its kill,  it staggers its way towards me. Eyes crazed with bloodlust.

A loud howl breaks the sound of the rain, cracking the staring contest this monster was having with me.

Almost instantly, it stepped back from me, body transitioning into alert mode instead, ears back with a wrinkled muzzle.

Out of nowhere, a dark figure tackles the rabid wolf into the ambulance, denting the solid surface immensely. Cutting off my escape.

It was relentless, claws slashing, jaws snapping. Blood sprayed everywhere, growls and whimpers ring in my ears as I'm frozen. Fearful if I move, something will happen.

The savage wolf kicks the newcomer off, but it didn't last long before it charged again.

It gripped the wooden weapon before ripping it out, leaving a deep slash that showed a set of cracked ribs.

However, as it dropped in what looked like agony, the second wolf clamped its large jaws around its throat, shaking the first beast like a dog to a ragdoll.

When a flash of lightning illuminated the area, I could see the new form clearly.

It looked like the first one, but thick with corded muscle. Matted midnight fur covered the entire figure.

The muzzle, eyes and stomach had thinner hair, while the edges of the elbows, or the heal had tufts of fur.

Glowing sapphire pools meet my green ones, and it lowered itself in a crouch, and didn't move.

I make a step, nothing. Is it letting me go? I'm not risking it. I make a break for the BMW, my body killing me.

I could hear it behind me, and my heart felt like it was racing a lot faster than I could.

I was lucky enough to dive inside the confinements of the car, but not enough to close the door.

Clawed hands reach for me, gripping my small ankle as I'm dragged from the car, feeling the leather burn my bare arms from the friction.

"No! Stop!" It growled deeply, as it's razors neared me. With as much force as possible, I punch it on the nose, earning a horrible hiss.

I was shoved against the side of the car, making me groan in pain. Winded, I suck in as much air as possible, trying not to puke.

I noticed that they never stood straight, the figures always hunch over slightly, their legs bending like an animal's would, like digitigrade.

I go to move, but I was slammed against the vehicle once again. My head dropped slightly, resting for a split second, I weakly raise it again.

Before anything could register, a burning sensation ran through my shoulder as smaller versions jab my sides.

An ear piercing scream leaves my lips, slowly dying as my throat grows sore, raspy.

I tried everything to get it off, but it wasn't working. Digging deeper, I let my body sag as the exhaustion, mixed with this agonizing pain wear me out.

Soon after my legs buckled, letting me hang in the air by its teeth and claws.

Then it all went black....
