Chapter 33
Hayden woke up to screaming. Yes, screaming. He shot up from the couch, but as soon as he did, he remembered that Beatrix had fallen asleep on his shoulder. He caught her as her head fell to the cushions. Her eyes fluttered open to see him. And she heard the screaming, too. "Who is that?" She asked with a start. She knew that screaming usually meant bad things.
"No clue, but let's find out," Hayden said, helping her up. They ran around the small building to hear where the scream was coming from. It was coming from outside.
They walked outside and saw a squirrel. Well, actually two squirrels. And they were screaming. "What the heck?" Beatrix said, shocked.
"Oh, sorry if we woke you," one of the squirrels said, after the two finished screaming, "A bird was coming down."
"You know, sometimes I forget about the magic in this forest," Hayden muttered.
"Yeah," Beatrix agreed.
"Anyway," the other squirrel said, "My name is Stanford, and this is my brother Stanley."
"Hello," Hayden said, "I'm Hayden and this is Beatrix."
"Hello, how do you do?" Stanley asked.
"Fine," Beatrix said.
"Why don't you come inside with us?" Hayden suggested.
"That would be lovely!" Stanford exclaimed. They all walked inside and saw Sadie and Shian standing at the door.
"Okay, who was screaming?!" Sadie exclaimed.
"They woke us up!" Shian grumbled.
"Oh, sorry about that, it was us," Stanford said.
"Oh geez, not you two!" Shian groaned.
"What's wrong with them?" Asked Beatrix.
"Oh, just that they are really annoying, they have a bad reputation in the woods," Shian said.
"Oh we know," Stanley said.
"People said we pry too much," Stanford added.
"That's because you do," Shian muttered.
"Anyway, do you have any cheese puffs? Or acorns? We're awfully hungry," Stanley said.
"And they're needy," Hayden noted.
"I think we have some snacks in a cabinet," Sadie said, walking over to the cabinet in the corner. She opened it up and pulled out some cheese puffs. "Here you go," she said, handing them the bag.
"Thank you," Stanford said. The two squirrels tore open the bag and stuffed the cheese puffs in their face and their faces were covered in orange cheese powder.
"You're getting the floor dirty," Shian complained.
"Oh well, I think we should let them stay, they're sort of cute," Beatrix said.
"Fine," Shain said.
"Here, you two can stay on the piping that runs through here," Sadie said.
"Thank you so much, you are such generous people," Stanley thanked and the two ran up the wall and climbed up on top of the piping that stuck out of the wall. They quickly fell asleep even though it was about 8 in the morning.
"Well, now that that's taken care of, who wants breakfast?" Hayden asked.
"I'll take some," Beatrix said, holding his hand.
"I'll make some pancakes," Shian suggested. He walked into the small kitchen and started to mix together the ingredients. Sadie, Beatrix, and Hayden sat down on the couch.
"So, how are you two going?" Sadie asked.
"Great," they said, simultaneously. They looked at each other and smiled.
"You know, when Hayden first told me about his crush on you, Beatrix, I knew it was eventually going to happen like this," Sadie said.
"Oh, did you now," Beatrix said, raising an eyebrow.
"Well I am a relationship master," she said.
"Well, then why did the 'relationship master' have only one relationship, and the person was actually a murderer who was acting about actually liking you," Hayden smirked.
"Oh, shut it," she said.
"Pancakes are ready!" Shian yelled from the kitchen. At that, the three of them got up and went to the kitchen and ate their pancakes with Shian. And then their was a yell for them from outside.
A/N OOOH who yelled for them and tell me if you like Stanley and Stanford😋 anyway, question time!
Who is your favorite character from the Kane Chronicles?
