Chapter 4
Beatrix walked into her room and opened up her closet. She looked around and grabbed her favorite dress. It was a deep royal blue with a white waistband and had thick tank top straps and flowed all the way to the ground. She pulled it on and looked in the mirror. She grabbed a pair of silver flower earrings and put them in. Then, she grabbed her favorite necklace, it had a heart charm on a simple silver chain. She grabbed her hairbrush and brushed out her hair, making it straight as it was naturally. She went into the bathroom she had in her room and used her curling iron to add strict curls to her hair. She bounced them and looked into the mirror. It looked great.
She walked out of the bathroom and took a pair of silver heels, only two inches high, anything else she would kill herself in by falling over so much. She pulled them on and grabbed her chapstick and applied it. She walked out of her room and greeted her mom. "Hi, mom." She said.
"Hey, Beatrice," her mom replied. Her mom and her teachers were probably the only people who called her Beatrice, everyone liked Beatrix better. "You look ready to go, when are your friends picking you up?"
"In about ten minutes." Beatrix replied. She smiled and sat down on the couch.
"So, is this new friend of yours picking you up?" Her mom asked.
"No, we're meeting him there." Beatrix replied. Beatrix grabbed her iPod and started playing some card games. Then there was a knock on the door. Beatrix sat up straight and her mom opened the door.
"Hi, Hayden. You're looking all dressed up." Her mom said.
"Well, it is the end of the year formal," he said, obviously uncomfortable talking to her mom, "Is Beatrix ready to go?"
"Yeah, I'm right here," Beatrix said, getting up and walking to the door.
"Hi, Beatrix." He said. He looked nervous talking to her as well. Beatrix hoped he was all right.
"Bye, mom." Beatrix said as she walked out the door. There was a limo waiting. "Wow, you rented a limo?"
"Yeah," Hayden said, "I thought it would be easiest to pick us up."
"Well, yeah it is. Let's go get Sadie." I said as I got into the car. The limo started up and took off.
"Hey, Hayden. I know you were saying something like a few days ago about wanting to ask somebody to the dance. Did you end up doing that?" Beatrix asked, clueless to who was going to be asked.
"No, she already had a date." He replied, obviously upset.
"Well, how about you talk to her tomorrow at the party." Beatrix said, trying to help.
"Her date is coming with her." He said, sort of annoyed. It seemed like he was annoyed at her. She brushed it off, he was a weird boy anyway. I mean, yeah they had known each other since they were in kindergarten, so I guess they had known each other for ten years. Eleven as of next September.
"Hayden, whoever it is, I hope they realize that you're a great guy and it would be an honor to be your girlfriend." Beatrix said, patting him on the back.
"Yep, I sure hope." He said, his teeth clenched. Now Beatrix knew something was up.
"Are you feeling alright?" She asked him.
"Yeah, I'm just still kind of annoyed at that girl. We've known each other for a pretty long time and I've given subtle hints to liking her all these years." He said.
"Oh geez, you like Sadie." Beatrix said. Sadie had texted Beatrix a few minutes ago saying that she had a date to the dance.
"No! It's not Sadie." He said.
"Oh, sorry." Beatrix said, blushing. I hope he will tell me who it is, Beatrix thought. She wanted to give this girl a piece of her mind for annoying Hayden like that. I mean, it's obvious that he likes her probably. So that girl should just go out with him. Quit on their date and go with Hayden.
The limo pulled up to Sadie's house. Hayden and Beatrix got out of the limo and knocked on the door. Sadie answered it wearing a light pink dress that was long and flows. It wrapped around her neck and she had a light sweater over it. "Are you ready?" Beatrix asked her.
"I was born ready." She said.
"Let's go then!" Hayden added in. Sadie closed the door behind her and they ran to the limo, they all climbed inside.
"So, tell me about your date." Beatrix said. This was girl talk, so she could see Hayden visibly tune out and he started looking out the window.
"He's tall, brown haired, green eyed, and is tanned." She said.
"What's his name?" Beatrix asked.
"Will." She replied, "Will Unger."
"Ooh, nice name," Beatrix said. Sadie's house was really close to school, so before they knew it, they were there. They all got out of the limo and walked up to the school. They handed their tickets to the students sitting outside of the gym and they walked in. Balloons covered the floor and music was playing. There were snack tables and small tables with chairs around the wall. The dance floor was full of kids dancing and partying.
"Let's dance!" Beatrix exclaimed.
