I sprouted from the ground
I was emerald green and my leaves
Were round

I was supposed to be attracting
Monarch butterflies
Their wings were supposed to
Flutter against my leaves like a
Lover's embrace

But I was all alone
With no butterflies that surrounded me 
All the other milkweeds
Were busy making friends with the monarchs

While I- a vibrant emerald green milkweed plant- was on my own

So, I stayed there
Rooted in the ground
In a garden
Full of beautiful flowers and milkweeds
And I waited for the day when monarch butterflies would  embrace me with their lovely wings

Then, just as I was about to loose hope
The day came
When an abundance of monarch butterflies
Flew into my life

These butterflies lied their wings
Down on my emerald green leaves
Embraced me with their vibrant wings
And I gave them nutrition and life

But that day passed
And those butterflies flew away

But I stayed still
Rooted into the ground
Hoping that butterflies will fly back to me
Someday
