our problems
Roman's POV
"So..."
"Uh..."
"Ummm..."
"... I smoked meth today." Joelle stated as and set her fork down.
"You don't smoke meth." AJ said while stuffing a piece of chicken in her mouth, "You snort it. I'll show you later."
"April-" I started to scowl, then stopped when she shot a glare at me, "I mean AJ, stop showing my child how to use drugs. Joelle, stop lying about things. "
AJ rolled her eyes, but the table got uncomfortably silent once again.
The four of us, AJ, Joelle, Naomi and I, all sat at the dinning room table quietly. Joelle had attempting to spike up a conversation, but it always died back into silence and I didn't know why.
Our dinners were usually loud and occasionally ended in a small food fight, but they were never silent like they were today.
It was... awkward.
Joelle gave a small sigh before pushing her plate away a bit and taking out her phone.
"No phones at the table." I told her before lazily scooping a spoonful of mashed potatoes into my mouth.
"Why can Naomi have hers, but I can't have mine?" She questioned me and I turned my head in the direction of my fiancée who was indeed on her phone.
"Because she's probably taking care of business." I tell her. "Now eat."
Joelle looked away from me and towards Naomi, "Namie, what are you doing?"
"Texting a friend." She muttered to her.
I gave a small sigh, "Don't you think Becky can wait until your through eating to talk."
"It's not Becky." She said simply while typing away again.
I gave her a questioning look, "Then who is it?"
"Charlotte." She said plainly again.
"Charlotte?" I asked.
"Flair." She responded to me.
"Hold up, wait a minute, let me put this sweet roll in it." Joelle commented while dropping her roll on her plate, "You mean to tell me your texting Charlotte Flair? The Charlotte Flair? The Charlotte Flair that made my charm bracelet? The current charm bracelet that I'm wearing right now? You're texting her. Someone hold my juice, I'm gonna pass out."
"Yes her." Naomi said with a small smile to her before looking back down at her phone.
"Tell her I said hi!" Joelle shouted.
"Tell her to send me money." AJ commented as she lazily gravy off of her face, "Or I can work for it. Shit, I'll strip for a tip."
"How do you even know her?" I asked.
"The convention." Naomi told me then set the phone on the table before standing up.
"I need to talk to you." She stated while grabbing her phone and began to walk out of the dining room.
I gave her a questionable look, which she made no comment to. The dining room getting quite once again.
Joelle remained quite for about another three seconds before asking, "What did you do?"
"What's that suppose to mean?" I asked her with a frown.
"Oh please." Aj said while rolling her eyes, "You're a dumbass 97% of the time. You did something."
"What's he the other 3%?" Joelle asked as I stood up.
"Asleep." Aj said with a snort and I rolled my eyes at the two of them before making my way out of the dining room and towards the stairs.
While climbing the stairs, I couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with her, or if I had actually done something wrong and I was just unaware that I had.
Thing was, she seemed really calm. But I knew Naomi well enough to know that she can keep her composure in public and then wreck havoc in private. It was one of her many talents.
I neared our room and once reaching it, I gently pushed the door open, finding Naomi inside taking her earrings off.
"Hey there gorgeous." I commented while closing the door behind me.
She gave no reply as I walked further into the room. Her eyes stayed focused on her reflection in the mirror while she took the earrings off.
"You wanted to talk?" I asked her.
She sighed and tossed the earrings down, "Baby, we're a team, right?"
"Of course." I assured her as I sat on the edge of our bed.
"And I can tell you anything, right?" She asked again as she turned around to face me.
"Anything." I reassured her again, "What's wrong? You've been quite."
"I've been thinking." She said quietly as she walked closer to the bed, "I've been trying to get some information together."
"Information about what?" I asked her
She paused for a moment before shaking her head, "I don't trust her, Roman."
"Her?" I questioned.
"Sasha." She said with a sigh.
I gave her a questionable look before answering her, "What's wrong with her? Did she do something?"
"Yes, but then again, no." She told me, "She went into my office while we were gone and my computer was tampered with. Neville confirmed she went in, but yet none of my files were broken into. Attempted, but not broken into. She also lied to get herself into my office by showing Neville fake messages."
"On top of that..." she began to day, then stopped herself, shook her head and began to pace, "I just get this off feeling about her Roman. Something doesn't sit right with me about her. Don't you feel like something's weird about her?"
I felt my face heat slightly as my mind went back to the moment that Sasha and I were alone on my office. That had really been the last time I had made contact with her.
The thought of her skin on mine and the sound of her voice near my ear made my body shutter with discomfort.
Sure, Sasha was pretty. She was smart too. She was the type of girl that I would have chased after in my younger days.
But I don't chase after anybody anymore. I had the woman I needed and that was final. So in that aspect, yes, I did find Sasha weird.
I found it weird the way she acted towards me, and it did make me uncomfortable, but other than that, she was just my assistant. She did her job, and that's all I really expected to be done.
"I mean..." I say softly, "I really don't know. I don't pay much attention to her. I hired her to do her job, that's all I need her to do."
Naomi shook her head slightly and from her facial expression she seemed to be more upset than she was letting on.
"Hey," I said to her, "Come here."
She looked at me for a moment before sighing, crossing her arms and walking towards me.
"If you think something's wrong," I say while grabbing her hand and pulling her into my lap, "Then I have no right to say you're wrong for thinking so. If you want, I can talk to Sasha tomorrow. In fact, we can both talk to her and set things straight. That sound ok?"
She stayed quiet for a moment before sighing and nodding, "Yeah. That sounds good."
"You sure?" I asked her and she nodded before resting her head in the crook of my neck.
"I'm positive." She tells me, "I think I'll feel better once I've discussed it with her."
"That's my girl." I said with a small smile while rubbing her shoulder, "Now, do you wanna tell me why you were texting Charlotte Flair?"
"Well she knows-" she started to explain, but stopped at the sound of her cell phone ringing. She groaned before getting off of me and walking towards her jacket and grabbing the item off the dresser.
"Who is it?" I asked as she gave a questioning look at her phone.
"Joelle." She mumbled before answering it and pressing the speaker button, "Joelle why are you calling me?"
"Cause I didn't wanna walk in on you two doing..." she started then stopped, "You know."
"We're just talking." She reassured her, "What's wrong?"
"Miss Lee told me to tell you to turn on the television." She mumbled and Naomi nodded towards the remote on the nightstand.
"What channel?" Naomi asked her as I grabbed the remote and turned on the TV.
"It sounded like a news station." Joelle said to her, "I don't know. Miss Lee won't let me watch it. She sent me to my room."
"Probably CNN or some shit." I mumbled as I pressed the numbers for the channel.
As soon as the station showed on the television, the sounds of arguing filled my ears while Naomi said bye to Joelle and came to sit back on the bed with me.
On the television sat three men that I didn't know along with Jimmy and Jey. Jey speaking angrily to his brother.
"You cannot only blame Roman for that entire conference going the way it did Jimmy." Jey told him, "Did he say things that I didn't agree with at times? Yes he did. But so did you."
"So you're just going to side with him over me now?" Jimmy practically shouted at him.
"I'm not siding with anyone!" Jey protested.
"Then what do you call picking those bastards over your twin brother?" Jimmy shouted him.
"I'm not picking-" Jey started to yell, but stopped himself, "You know what? Forget it. There's no point in arguing with you. You're always right? Right?"
"You're damn right." Jimmy said and Jey rolled his eyes, "Glad you could see things my way."
"This is so embarrassing." Jey mumbled.
"What is? Me? Really Jey? Here you go siding with-" Jimmy started to say again but Jey stopped him.
"When the fuck did I say I was siding with anyone?" Jey growled at him, "Jimmy. Are you ok? Seriously, cause your worrying me. I can't utter a word without you trying to think I'm betraying you. No one said anything. Stop getting information and twisting it around in your head."
"I'm embarrassed about this entire situation." He continued, "Here we are on television, trying to explain why the hell that conference went why it did when we could be on here discussing the accomplishments of our company has done. You, me, and Roman are putting a bad name on our fathers and their work because we all want to act like fools and argue with each other. I'm sick of dishonoring my last name over some petty shit."
"Roman hurt you? We know. Naomi hurt you? We know. You wanna be better than him? Prove it. Tired of him overdoing you? Then let's work our asses off and put Roman in second place. Roman expects that. He's up for a challenge. Family competing against family. And what will that result in? Our family being on top. Because no matter if it's us on top and Roman in second, or Roman on top and us riding his coat tails in second, our family name occupies two places, making us unbeatable. So can we stop tearing each other down and move forward."
"He's pissed." I mumbled as I watched the TV, all of them sitting in silence.
"I've never even seen Jey get that mad before." Naomi said quietly.
"He's fed up." I said with a small sigh, "I honestly won't be surprised if he calls me later and straight cusses me out for putting him through this bullshit."
Jey was always civil. He sought for the peace in stressful situations. He kept fights and talking shit on people to a minimum. He was a good person that rarely got mad... but when he did get mad it wasn't very good. Jey had a tendency to hurt people's feelings with nothing but the truth.
"Well." One of the other men sitting with them said with a small nervous laugh, "We have time for one more question and it's for Jimmy. What's the purpose of bringing up Reigns daughter? It's been quite conversational."
Jimmy sighed and ran a hand through his hair, "Bringing Joelle into the situation was.... uncalled for. I shouldn't have said what I said about her. I will admit, I had planned to disrespect her that entire time. I knew bringing her up would set him off and it did. But I do regret saying what I said. She shouldn't have to deal with this because it isn't her fault."
"But with that being said." Jimmy continued. "I don't apologize for it. Hopefully Roman will get over it. But if he doesn't, then it's not of my concern."
I shook my head slightly before laying back on my bed, hearing their discussion continue, but not bothering to really listen anymore.
I was tired of the arguing and bashing, but it wasn't clearing up any time soon.
