Chapter 4
A load chirping filled Sintara’s ear. In her sleep she reached over and flicked a knife at the bird. The chirping ceased. Then the bucket of water fell on her. It was a trap she had made after stabbing the first three alarm birds. When she picked up her knife the water would drop. Sintara jerked upwards. Coughing and spluttering, she slowly got up. After drying her bed with a gust of air she steadily walked back to the kitchen. This was the day. Today they would find out the results of her long test.
Sintara pov*
Althea and Kelsanda were waiting outside. They hadn’t needed to be tested. They could choose whether they wished to stay or go. It depends on me. Me and my results.
I walked through the forest and dried my hair. It was still wet from my wake up. Through the door. Hugging the others. I was in a little bit of a daze. I thought of all the mistakes I made in my test. The main one was that I was a bit rude. But I can't help it. If people on the woods pathway back in Earth had been nicer, maybe I would be too.
Apollo, Hades and Poseidon met us at the end of the hall.
"You nervous?" Poseidon asked. He was the one who joked around a lot. Hades just hangs in the background. He is quite subdued. But I guess he does have to stop the dead from rebelling and haunting mortals. That would be scary. Hades watching the gates of the underworld is the only real defence. He's the only one who can stop them. If we can stay then he would start to teach Althea how to do this and she would one day inherit his job. Just as Kelsanda would inherit the power of the ocean from Poseidon. But not me. I'm daughter of the sky. I'd be in charge of nothing. Just a nobody who is never to be remembered by mortals.
What a great life.
"Kneel!" the all powerful Zeus commanded. If I stayed I'd be under his charge the whole time I was in Olympus. I knelt. He stepped down off of his podium and pulled his hammer from his belt and stood over me like a lion over a mouse. Except I will never be that helpless.
"Sintara. Daughter of Apollo and Aries. You have been through your tests and I see that since you were sent to Earth you have become tough. The wilderness has done you good. We know that you have learnt to control your powers. Sintara nodded. She remembered all too well the stupid tests on what her powers where. She had found out about her ability to create air in a room where there isn't any.
"Therefore," Zeus continued "I declare the choice of your, residence, yours. You can stay or return to Earth. Choose wisely" Sintara bowed her head and he placed the top of his hammer on her forehead. Kelsanda and Althea had had this. It was a ritual that every God or Goddess went through in the Receiving of their full powers. Sintara's little cousin, Kaunda, had had it when she was about five.
I stayed on my knees. In shock. I'd passed. I could stay. I slowly stood and looked up at Zeus.
"I would like to spend time both here and on Earth. I love them both and would hate to give either up."
"Agreed. Your decision is a good one. It shows you are wise and loyal." He bowed his head to her. Sintara stood and took her leave. Apollo smiled at her and nodded his head. Althea and Kelsanda immediately started chattering to Sintara.
