Chapter 13: Day Three
July 3, X791
Second Person P.O.V
You scope the arena with your hands clasp behind your back as the crowds gather for the day. You can't get what Laxus said out of your mind, even if it was just drunken sorrow. He wants to be with you and he said you were hurting him.
You continue to tell yourself that your mission is more important and getting revenge is the only thing that can make up for your past, but is that true? Maybe the best revenge is letting go and starting over.
You brush the thoughts away from your head as you walk to Fairy Tail's balcony and the next event called Pandemonium begins. To your pleasure, Erza is chosen and you're excited to finally see her in action for yourself. For the event, participants enter a temple one at a time and inside the temple are 100 monsters of different levels.
You watch as Erza is the first to enter and she chooses to face all 100 monsters, but you've heard enough to know she can handle it. She ends up slaying all the creatures and reigning victorious. To even out the odds, a MPF (Magic Power Finder) is brought out to test the rest of the contestants magic power with a single move.
Not to your surprise, Jura and Orga scored the highest, except when Cana blew away the entire competition with getting 9999+, but you heard Fairy Tail saying some type of secret spell was given to her and used. If it were any other guild, you would've reported it to the council.
Everything seems to be in perfect order, but that doesn't stop you from searching the crowd repeatedly. Jellal said he saw someone suspicious, but they got away before he could catch them. That's weird on its own because no one can get away from a former Wizard Saint that easily.
The first battle is Millianna versus Semmes with Millianna coming out the winner. Next is Eve versus Rufus. You have a deep hatred for the members of Sabertooth, but that didn't stop them, especially Sting Eucliffe, from flirting with you. It still sickens you how only a year ago he tried to feel you up and you gave him an ass-kicking he'll never forget.
Alas, Rufus comes out the winner in this battle, leaving the prepubescent Eve incredibly injured. A strange feeling suddenly forms in your stomach and you lean further over the railing.
"The next battle is Laxus versus Alexei!"
Are. You. Fucking. Serious?
You close your eyes and take countless deep breaths to steady your heartbeat. Of course these asshats would put Laxus up against someone from his dad's guild.
"Everyone, take your positions," Makarov directs.
You give him a confused look as almost every member of Fairy Tail takes off in different directions, including the Thunder God Tribe.
"What's going on, Makarov?" you ask.
"We're keeping an eye-out on Raven Tail incase they try anything. They won't trick us this time," he replies and commands Warren to keep everyone updated.
You're left alone with a hand full of Fairy Tail members as Laxus and Alexei walk on to the field. You keep your sharp eyes out for any odd movements whatsoever.
If they try one thing against Laxus, I will end them all.
Laxus and Alexei walk to the center of the battlefield and the match begins. Laxus starts saying something until Alexei punches him and knocks him back onto the ground. Your eyes widen and your mouth hangs open. Alexei continues to kick and throw around Laxus like he's just some practice dummy.
What the hell are you doing, Laxus?
The match continues with Laxus not even attempting to land a single blow. You narrow your eyes and see little openings that you know Laxus would've taken advantage of. You know Laxus likes to show off his powers and he would never let himself get beaten down this bad, even if he was testing his competitors magic power.
Something is wrong.
Your eyes shift from the fight to Raven Tail to Ivan and it all gives off a sense of not being real. The Raven Tail members along with Ivan haven't moved an inch and you immediately realize what's happening.
"Hey, Bolt Boy! Don't let them take you down so easily!" you call over the arena.
"I never thought Laxus would be at such a disadvantage," Makarov panics.
You laugh and let your body relax for a moment. The Fairy Tail guild looks at you incredulously. "Laxus is one of the greatest wizards I've had the honor of sparing with. Don't loose faith." Makarov nods in appreciation and focuses back on the battle.
"Come on, Laxus!" you hear Natsu scream.
Suddenly, the tables seem to turn and Laxus lights up his fists and punches Alexei, sending him flying backwards into the wall and smashing it to bits.
Now I know for sure. Laxus would never fight with brute force by using his fists. He has a particular spell combination of ABBABA, using a strong spell then weaker spells and working his way back up. This is not Laxus.
You watch the illusion with interest. Alexei stands and Laxus, uncharacteristically, charges at him, repeatedly punching Alexei with minimal force. Laxus pushes Alexei back and sends a roar of electricity straight at him.
"Yeah! That ought to do it! After all that, we had no reason to worry, right?" Makarov says.
Warren calls in the guild members, but in the meantime, Alexei sends a dark and powerful spell that now has Laxus crashing into the concrete. You cringe at the impact, thinking what would happen if that really were Laxus getting pulverized.
The things I'm going to do to Raven Tail after this is over... you think darkly.
Alexei picks Laxus up by the collar of his shirt as if he were weightless and punches him into the dirt. You look over to a worried Makarov and wonder when he'll come to the conclusion you have.
By this point, Alexei is barely radiating any power and the commentators wonder if he's holding back. Laxus continues to get thrown around and you tap your foot nervously.
"This is the great Laxus? I expected a lot more from him after the way everyone talked him up. What's the deal?" Pantherlily ponders.
"Maybe he's feeling conflicted about fighting Alexei. He is a member of his father's guild," Carla replies.
"This isn't like you, Laxus! You got to fight back!" Happy yells.
Laxus continues to get beat in to the pavement and you're using all your power to hold yourself back from lashing out on Raven Tail because you have faith that Laxus can handle himself.
"Laxus!" Makarov shouts and holds up the signature Fairy Tail sign, and at that moment, you know he too has figured it out.
A few minutes later, a black mist forms around the arena and fades away, revealing Laxus standing tall and the entire Raven Tail team destroyed. Everyone is shocked as the projections of Raven Tail disappear.
Your blood boils and you immediately leave the balcony. An overwhelming feeling overcomes your mind to make sure Laxus is okay both physically and emotionally. By the look on his face, you know something big happened between him and his father.
It takes you all of five minutes to find him near one of the tunnels with his forehead leaning against the wall and one of his arms covering his face. His coat is tossed unceremoniously on to the floor and his clothes are torn all over.
"Laxus," you say softly while also realizing that's the first time you've said his name aloud.
Laxus doesn't move, but you know he heard you. You continue to walk toward him until you're standing right next to him. You take your hand and gently touch his side.
"Laxus, what happened?"
Laxus sighs, turns around and leans his back against the wall. You let your hand fall back to your side as you take in his hollow and depressed expression.
"My dad wanted me to work with him to get Fairy Tail's secret from Gramps. I didn't know what he was talking about, but he thought I was hiding it. Figures. All he ever wants to do is use me," he reveals.
"But you would never help him," you clarify.
"If my dad would've asked me to do it before I was excommunicated, I would've said yes instantly. All I've ever wanted was to make him proud."
You hesitantly move in front of his form, slip your arms around his waist and rest your cheek against his rigid body. Laxus wraps his arms around you and sighs.
"You have to let go of who you used to be. That person was never you, Laxus. This is you," you tell him.
Laxus laughs humorlessly. "You say that, but you won't let your past go."
"That's because you don't know the whole story," you confess sadly.
"What do you mean?" he questions.
"About two years ago, I lost control of my magic power. I encountered one of Zeref's demons and that's when my inner devil consumed me. I... I defeated the demon, and I almost died. I got lucky when Porlyusica found me and forced my beast back into its cage." You pause as Laxus tightens his hold on you.
"Before Porlyusica found me, my devil side went haywire and I wiped out a village. I killed so many innocent people because I couldn't control myself. That's why I have to kill Zeref. For all of the people I murdered." You hold back tears and Laxus momentarily tenses beneath you.
"But that wasn't you," Laxus whispers. "It's not your fault. You didn't kill anyone, it was something within you. Like you said, you had no control."
"I should've been strong enough. All these people think I'm some saint, but in reality, I'm as bad as Zeref."
Laxus tilts your chin up and you take a little step back to look in to his smoldering eyes. "You are not as bad as Zeref. You're the most amazing and honest person I've met. Why can't you ever think about yourself and let yourself be happy?" he asks.
"Because I don't deserve it," you reply.
"Who says? The past has taught you enough about life and death. You should let it go and get revenge by moving on to a brighter future."
You let out a chuckle. "Where did you get that from?"
"You may not believe this, but Makarov has had to give me a speech or two about my past," Laxus responds. "I meant what I said about wanting to be with you."
"You remember?" you ask in disbelief, thinking he was way too drunk to have a functioning brain.
"Yeah," he nods. "So what do you choose?"
You think for a moment. Dwell on the past or move toward the future with Laxus? The decision seems to be easy as you rise and capture Laxus's lips with yours. Electricity crackles around the two of you and, eventually, you pull away.
"I choose you."
A/N: Tbh, I feel like I update too much, lmao. Should probably stop...
