Chapter 4: Unbeatable
"Shall we start?" Freed asks.
You let out a completely fake and sad sigh. "I suppose."
Second Person P.O.V
If someone were to ask your greatest natural ability, you would say your quick thinking, or perhaps it's your agility. It's debatable.
You let the dark marks morph your skin as Freed lunges and you quickly dodge his attack. Any good wizard knows how to fight, but a great wizard knows when to not.
In this case, you know you can easily defeat your opponent, and when you know you have an easy win, you take the time to observe their moves and then you'll know which of your moves you can use that will be both the most effective and least effective. Most effective in the sense that you'll win and least effective in the sense that the least amount of harm will be done to the target.
"Dark Ecriture: Fear!" he casts with his sword and you dodge his swipes.
Dark magic. Luckily, dark magic barely has an effect on you because you're basically half an evil being yourself. Considering he has a sword, I should even the odds.
You create separation between you and Freed and take the opportunity to put your right fist with your left palm and gather your magic energy.
"Holy Devil's Zeroth Long Sword," you announce calmly, separating your hands with the result of a white and black sword in your grasp. The sharp edges of the sword glow a purely white color while the handle is a swirl of the colors that delegate the good and evil.
"Dark Ecriture: Pain!" Freed yells, once again lunging toward you with the intention of slashing across your chest, but you bring your sword up to block his attack just in time.
With minimal force, you let your magic flow through the sword and you push Freed away. The force causes him to hurl backwards and slam into a pile of hay. You smile, assuming it's over until the runes appear around you.
Sneaky bastard. Planted them before I could get out here.
You raise your katana and you're now facing the smug faces of the people who bet on Freed who know his runes are nearly unbreakable, but what they don't know is that you're unbeatable, and this little obstacle won't stand in your way.
You do a 360 spin around the rune while hitting all the edges with your blade. A shattering sound is heard before the rune cracks and crumbles into thin air. You slowly turn around to face Freed when two people block your path.
"We're not letting you beat Freed!" Evergreen shouts.
"That's right. You face one of us, you face us all, including Laxus," Bickslow says and his dolls echo him. You think for a moment and go to decline their offer when a voice speaks up.
"That's not happening. This is over and it's clear who the winner is," Laxus says, walking over to stand by your side.
"Laxus, why?!" Evergreen asks.
"Because (Y/N) is here as a guest and Freed has obviously been defeated," he replies and you're surprised to say the least.
Freed pivots around his partners and stands in front of you. "You're truly a skilled wizard. I'm sorry for my actions," he apologizes.
"Don't worry about it. It was my fault for insulting Laxus in the first place." You brush it off and start walking away from the group. "Until next time, Fairy Tail."
As you walk past the group that bet on Freed, your eyes lock with the shirtless guy that was familiar to you before.
He looks so much like... Silver.
You shake your head and continue away from the guild hall while also letting your black marks disappear from your skin. You hear the shuffling of people going back into the guild hall, and take one last look over your shoulder. Laxus is now standing alone as he watches you fade into the distance.
You send him a smile, knowing he can see it with his eyesight and you whisper, "Until next time, Laxus."
You turn back around and enter the forest. A breeze drifts by and you faintly hear the words, "Until next time, (Y/N)."
✻ ✻ ✻
You sit on your bed as the days events take their toll and you let out a yawn. Just as you're about to let your head hit the pillow, you hear your portable lacrima buzzing on the nightstand.
"Hello?"
"(Y/N), we need your help," a voice you instantly recognize says.
"Sure, what's the problem?" you question.
There's a pause before he answers. "We may have found related to Zeref."
You nearly drop your phone as you scramble to get into a more comfortable position. "Jellal, what are you taking about? What did you find?"
"For the past couple of years at the Grand Magic Games, there has been an unusual glow of magic energy. Crime Sorciere needs your help on this one. If anyone knows about Zeref, it's you."
Your chest tightens and palms become sweaty. "What's the plan?"
You listen as Jellal, an old partner, begins explaining his relation to Fairy Tail and how he plans to become Mystogan for the duration of the games. You've known Jellal, along with Ultear and Meredy, for two years now. You met them around the same time you met Porlyusica when you went on a mission to destroy what was left of Grimoire Heart.
"Sounds good, but do you think Makarov will go for it?" you ponder.
"Hopefully he will. We'll see in a month," Jellal replies.
"Okay, thanks," you say, hanging up the lacrima and tossing it on the edge of the bed.
You let your body fall limp as your face smashes into the pillow and you sigh. A whole month without getting to tease Laxus.
Wait, what?
You groan at your wandering thoughts and roll onto your back, staring up at the ceiling. For some reason, you feel a weird pull to the Lightning Dragon Slayer that you can't explain. You haven't been letting your mind wander to that department because of your priorities.
Before you left Ishgar, you mostly trained with your parents, and for the past six years, all you've done is work and search. For Zeref. Boys were never on your mind. Hell, you've never even been kissed before. Sometimes it bothers you to know you've missed out on so much normality in life because of revenge and a terrible misfortune
A tear slides down your cheek as you remember what someone once told you. 'The best revenge is just moving on and just getting over it. Don't give someone the satisfaction of watching you suffer.' You think about that a lot.
Although you would never admit it, you've been silently suffering for six long years while repressing your feelings of the past. In most cases, you would tell someone that they're a fool for living in a place where nothing can ever change. But now you know some pasts can't be thrown away or forgotten.
Sometimes you need to solve the problems of your past to move forward. You know that better than anyone, and you will never let yourself be happy until you have gotten revenge, because that is the selfless thing to do.
At some points since you've been in Fiore, you thought about tossing the whole revenge thing our the window, but then you felt like you were letting your parents down.
All you can wish for now, is that one day, you'll be able to get revenge. You just hope you'll survive long enough to move on.
