On a bright, Sunday morning

when I was just a mere child

I woke up to the light

filtering in through the window

to the sound of birds chirping

excitedly, as if gossiping

but mostly to the faces 

of my brother and mother

hovering above me

That night before I awoke

I remembered dreaming

both sweet dreams and nightmares

I looked up at the smiles

of my dear, dear family

not quite hearing what they said

and I remember thinking

is this a dream too?

did I imagine my life,

my family, my friends

is it all just an illusion in my head

will I wake up to a different world

a different family

different friends

and forget this all happened?

And to this day

I'm still wondering

still looking for an answer
