Chapter 8

"Here," he took the leaf from my hand, and pulled the bandages off, with shaky hands he put the leaf over my cut.

I let out a small scream as a burning sensation run through my leg. I quickly pushed his hand off, and glared at him. "What? Did it not work?" He asked.

I checked and saw the wound closing up. "No. It worked." I sighed, feeling better.

"Here let me help you up," he grabbed my hands, and helped me stand. I was a little wobbly, but stood okay. "You okay?"

"Yes," I nodded. "We need to keep going tough. This is our second day here. We shouldn't stay here any longer."

"Okay, do you want to jump first?"

"I'll try." I nodded. I started running to the next tree, and jumped, landing swiftly on my feet. "Okay, Garroth!" I yelled.

He jumped across, and stumbled into me, but I caught him, and helped him stand, "Thanks," he laughed.

"Just learn how to walk you klutz?" I laughed.

"Geez, is that what I get for helping you climb, and cut that vine?"

"Oh, right, that was very helpful, but I'm the one who pulled you out of that hole. I could have left you if I wanted!" I yelled as I jumped to the next tree, landing in crouching position. The tree, swaying under me.

I stood up, and looked around. I saw a little clearing where there seemed to be a hole in the tree tops. I smiled to myself. "Hey Garro-" I crashed into the branch under me, laying flat in my stomach with what felt like thousands of pounds laying on my back.

"Sorry," Garroth mumbled.

"Would you mind getting off of me?" I raised an eyebrow.

"S-Sorry!!!" He yelled, jumping up quickly. I got up and brushed myself off.

"It's fine. Just please be a bit more careful?" I asked.

"Uh, yeah. Okay." He nodded.

"Were almost out... at least I think so... wait... wait a minute. Boy do I feel dumb," I laughed.

"What?" Garroth asked.

"I don't know why I didn't see it before!!!"

"SEE WHAT!?" Garroth yelled.

"Were in a test!" I facepalmed, laughing more.

"Yeah, so?"

"They have boundries, and we're pretty high up. We have to be near the top of the arena or whatever we're in... right?"

"I... didn't think of that to be honest." He shook his head.

"Will you give me a boost?" I asked.

As I stood up on his shoulders, he grunted. "I didn't think you'd be this energetic if you were feeling better."

"Just winging it," I rubbed my hands together.

"So what do you plan on doing???"

"I might be able to shut down the magyks source, making it about ten times easier. If I can get into the ceiling of the building, normally the generator is about... I don't know. Fifteen feet above the Magyks itself. So if I could jump-"

"WOW!!! Hold up? I am not going to let you-"

"See ya!!!" I yelled, pushing myself off his shoulders, and reaching up for the sky. I felt my fingers graze something, and I quickly took hold of it, and pulled it down with me as I fell, I caught myself dangling from the hatch that lead up into the drafters. A cool breeze flew down from it, and I shivered.

"GET BACK DOWN HERE!!!" Garroth yelled. I glanced down at him, and shook my head. I quickly scrambled around to pull myself up, with a few failures I had my success.

I pulled myself up into a world full of... devices, beeping, hissing, screaming.

It was terrifying. I looked around. If the magyks was going to anything it'd be purple. Like its aura. I caught something purple flowing around in the corner of my eye.

I turned quickly to see a... witch dressed in black and purple. Why this'll be fun. I approached her quietly from behind, drawing my knife, with silent hands.

As soon as I was close enough I jumped on her back as she spun around, screaming in confusion, I quickly took one clean cut across her throat, blood spilled out of her neck as she screamed the last scream she'd ever get to release.

I got up and started at her struggling body. "I'm sorry."

She just smiled wickedly, confusing me. I felt something wrap around my neck tightly, closing my air circulation. I grabbed at it, but nothing was there.

It was the witch of course. I took the knife, and threw it aimlessly in her direction. I heard a cackle as she got to her feet.

She approached me, slowly with a sticking grin. "Well, what are you sorry for?" The blood was going back into the wound and disappearing.

I went to kick her, but I couldn't move.

"Is this called playing fair?" I choked.

"Playing fair? You're the one who tried to cut my throat!" She snarled. I closed my eyes, and felt her clammy hand wrap around my face. "I know what you're thinking." She whispered.

I immediately felt heat burst up in the room, and it seemed to surprise her because she let go of her spell on me. I gasped for air, falling to the floor.

It's not worth it.

I got up smiling, I drew my sword as the witch looked around wildly. I walked up to her as fire surrounded us. "Are you afraid?" I asked quietly.

Stop it.

"How did you!? I didn't sense a magykal aura!!!" She shrieked.

Don't do it.

I laughed feeling myself starting to flicker away. "I'm not who you think I am," I said as plunged my sword into her chest. Her eyes grew wide as she fell to the floor, dying for good.

What have I done?

The fire disappeared immediately, and I felt something warm, trickle down my lip, but ignored it, because all I could pay attention to was the blood on my hands. I quickly got up, retrieved my weapons, and walked over to the hatch I looked back at the witch, and looked down the hatch, and saw Garroth standing there.

"Are you okay!?" He yelled.

"Yeah!" I yelled back. "I'm coming down!!!"

"Okay! I'll catch you!!!" He called back. I nodded, and jumped down. When I expected to hit the hard wood I felt someone's arms wrap around me. "Oh my Irene! Are you sure you're okay!? You've got blood all over you!!!" He exclaimed.

"I-I know," I mumbled. I got out of his arms, and tried to whip the blood off my hands.

"You also have a bloody nose."

Shoot. I used too much again.

"What happened up there?" He asked. I quickly whipped my nose on my shirt.

"There was a witch... and I stabbed her."

"Did she hit you?" He asked, putting a hand on my shoulder.

"Let's just not talk about it. Okay?" I mumbled. "Anyways, I got rid of the magyks source, let's see if it worked!" I smiled, changing the subject.

"Okay." I looked down over the edge and jumped to the branch under me, and kept repeating this.

I didn't once get attacked by a possessed plant. I got to the bottom, and looked around. A few feet away I saw what appeared to be a shack. Garroth jumps down next to me. "Let's go."

I grabbed his arm, and dragged him toward the shack, and pulled him inside of it. "Look around. There's going to be an exit. I know it." I mumbled.

We looked around hurriedly looking for a way out when I accidentally knocked over a bookcase. "Hey Garroth! I found a trap door!!!" I yelled, swinging it open. It was in the ceiling of the hallway and a guard was down there waiting.

Garroth ran into the room I was in. I immediately jumped down, landing on the guard. We both fell, and I jumped up, and started kicking him through anger. I don't know what came over me.

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE WHY ARE YOU SO FREAKING EVIL!?" I screamed.

Stop it.

Why would you stop something so beautiful?

I felt tears run down my cheek, and I stabbed him in the side. I felt someone pull me off him. "Stop it," Garroth whispered.

"I'm not trying!!!" I screamed. More blood was on my hands.

Garroth dragged me down the hall towards our room with me thrashing around screaming.

When we got into our room he threw me on the floor, and locked the door. He knelt down next to me as I started to cry. "What is wrong with you? Why would you hurt an innocent man?"

"I-I... you wouldn't understand," I mumbled. I sat up, whipping away my tears, but actually spreading blood across my cheeks.

"Help me understand," he sighed, taking my hands into his, ignoring the blood.

"I don't want to have to hurt you. That's all I can say." I sighed, standing up.

I did my usual routine. Shower, eat, and lay down.

I was in bed while Garroth showered. I was about half asleep when the bed dipped back down, and he wrapped his around around me.

"You won't have to hurt me. As long as you don't mean it," he whispered before kissing me on the cheek. "Good night."

"Good night." I whispered.
