#11) Attend a party and kiss the first person that offers you a drink / dance
I would be lying if I said that I wasn't scared for the next task on the list. For this one, I'd have to do things that I'm not really comfortable with.
The last party I went to was with Aubree and it was truly remarkable. Not in a good way of course. By the end of the night, I ended up puking in two different flower pots and a stranger.
Nevertheless, I found myself pushing down my bubbling anxiety at the back of my head as Piper applied eyeliner on my lids. If she didn't threaten to make me look like Captain Jack Sparrow already, then I would have laughed at her long back. The amount of seriousness on her face was too much to handle.
'Ruwena, this is the most crucial part and unless you want your cheeks to be carved out with a spoon, then I suggest you stop smiling.'
After the night we spent ringing doorbells, I filled Piper in about Bree and the bucket list she never got to put into action and just like her cousin, she promised to help me complete it.
So thats how she ended up in my room, turning me into a statue while she herself was dressed to kill. I'm grateful for all the help she's giving me since I know nothing about makeup, but seriously I couldn't feel my butt anymore.
Apparently, a friend of a friend of a friend (of a friend of a friend of a friend) was hosting a party and Piper thought that it would be perfect to tag me along. 'You can finally move now.' Piper announced as she clapped her hands together with a large smile.
A sigh of relief escaped my lips as I got up and walked to the mirror to inspect Piper's doings. Like I knew she would, Piper went all out. My purple hair looked effortlessly voluminous and it was curled at the ends. My eye lids had neutral eye shadow on but the wings of the eyeliner was sharp enough to cut any one who got too close. I have no idea what Piper did to the rest of my face but I approve because I'm sparkling like Edward Cullen himself.
'Eh, it's not too bad.' I said nonchalantly with a half shrug but I burst out laughing the moment I turned around and saw Pipers disbelief. I hugged her and thanked her until she told me that she would wipe all of it off unless I moved away.
'I just hope that my idiot of a cousin asks you first.'
'You didn't tell him right?' I asked her quickly 'You said you wouldn't tell him.'
'Relax,' she said as she waved a hand at me, 'I didn't tell him about the rest. I just told him that we were going to go to a party. But I don't get why you don't want him to know about the rest of it though?' Her eyebrows were raised as she placed a hand on her hip.
'Because then, he might ask me on purpose and then we'd have to kiss!'
'And that's not what you want? I thought you liked Tate?' Piper's protective side was coming out and I would have cooed at how cute this was if I wasn't frustrated.
'I do! I do like him but this is just supposed to happen naturally. Look, if Tate asks me first, then I'm one helluva lucky girl but Aubree wasn't specific when she wrote that down. She didn't write 'make someone kiss you'. So if I told Tate, then it would have been for my benefit you know?'
I walked over and plopped down on my bed. My hands itched to run over my hair but then it would ruin the hairdo and everything and I was frankly too young to be murdered by the girl in front of me. When I looked back at this said girl, a smirk was etched on her lips.
'You lost me the moment you said that you liked him.'
A groan escaped me as I reached for the pillow and threw it at Piper. Fortunately for her, my aim sucked and the pillow ended up landing nowhere near her. She laughed loudly and made her way to me.
'You love me.'
I rolled my eyes. 'As of now, no. No I don't.'
'You're right. You've got the hots for Tate. My bad.'
I groaned again. 'That's not going away anytime soon is it?' She shook her head so fast that I saw her face as a blur for a moment.
'Please don't bring it up in front of him.'
'My lips are sealed.' The buzzing of her phone from the table beside us grabbed our attention. After reading her text, Piper locked her phone and motioned for me to get up. 'They're here.'
'You girls look beautiful.' My mom said when she saw the both of us. 'Have fun sweetie.' She bade with a small smile.
'Yeah but not too much.' Dad piped in. 'And be back soon.'
'How soon is soon?' I squinted at him. He looked at the watch that hung on the wall.
'Five minutes from now.'
'Dad!' I whined as he pulled me into a hug and kissed my head, chuckling to himself. 'Do what your mom told you to. Have fun, kiddo.'
I was the first person to get out of the car the moment we reached the place. I feared I would've turned out deaf due to Bennets horrible singing and Pipers banter about how pizza crusts were under appreciated.
When we entered the place, I was instantly surrounded by loud music and suddenly, the car ride didn't seem so bad to me. Tate's hand was clutching mines firmly. A little to firm if you ask me. Piper greeted people from time to time but she never left our side.
'You're going to cut off my blood circulation.' I pointed at our encased hands and then looked at Tate.
'Oops. Sorry.' He muttered sheepishly and loosened his grip. 'But I'm not letting you go that easily tonight. Not when you look like that.'
That was all it took for me to turn into a tomato. I tried to fight my smile but it kept on resurfacing. I made a mental reminder to thank a specific brunnete again later.
'What ever.'
'Heads up Cuz,' Piper interrupted, 'your good ol' bestie just entered the premises.' Tate grimaced as he took notice of who Piper was talking about. However, me and Bennet remained confused as ever. 'Who are we talking about?' Bennet asked.
'That guy over there.' Piper pointed and Tate quickly swatted her hand down with his free one. 'Don't point. He might see us.' He gritted. Bennet frowned, not getting anything at all. Well, neither did I.
'His name is Jeremy. He used to be the old quarterback. He wasn't too happy about being replaced.' He stared straight ahead and sighed. 'I don't know why he bothers keeping it civil with me. It's already so obvious that he hates my guts.'
'Aren't you quite the star.' I mocked as he playfully glared at me. 'I hate to be the one to break it to you, but your pal spotted us already. And he's heading our way.' Tate swore and let go of my hand only to comb it through his hair in annoyance.
This so called Jeremy dude halted exactly in front of us and grinned at Tate. His smile was so fake. One could even mistaken it for a plastic bag.
'Maxwell. Nice seeing you here.' He tipped his chin at Tate and I could've sworn on all the riches I didn't own that this guys eye twitched.
'Likewise.' Tate responded in a cold voice. Jeremy lifted his hand in a mock salute to Piper. 'Who are your new friends?'
'Sorry. Rude of me not to introduce you.' If I wasn't staring at him, I wouldn't have noticed his eye roll. I'm assuming that pretty boy did notice it too.
'That's Bennet.' Im not sure if he was trying to piss Jeremy off, but Bennet squinted his eyes and smiled brightly (the same way Jeremy was doing) and offered a hand.
'And this is Ruwena.' Not knowing what to do, I waved.
'I'm assuming that you haven't been here for long. Since you dont have a drink in your hand yet.' Jeremy said to Tate.
The boy next to me shook his head. 'No thanks. I don't think I'll be needing a drink tonight.'
'Okay then. Not for you.' He said while he placed inside the pocket of his jeans.
'What about you Ruwena? Do you want to get a drink?'
Shit.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
My eyes widened at his question. I then shifted my gaze to Piper. She was just as shocked as I was. My mouth opened but no words came out. I looked back at Jeremy, not having an answer to his question.
What do I do? I was so sure that Tate was the one who was going to ask me (not that I was arrogant but because come on! Since when do strangers ask me anything?) I didn't bother in coming up with a Plan B incase anyone else did it first.
Okay. Stay calm. Let me think this through. There are two options. A drink or a dance. I'm going to skip the drink and kiss the first person who asks me for a dance.
Problem solved.
I was too engrossed in my thoughts, I didn't notice that they were all staring at me for an answer. I shook my head vigorously. 'No thank you.'
'Fine then. Would you at least like to dance?'
Shit.
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit of all shits.
Damn Jeremy to hell and back.
'Wena where are you going?' Tate asks, gripping my elbow but not too tightly. 'I'm sorry for this. I'll explain later I promise.' I said, taking a deep breath and walking towards the guy in front of me.
Jeremy had his arm outstretched. His smirk dissipated when I didn't take it. Instead I stood on my tiptoes and made a quick decision to kiss him on the cheek and not the lips.
All four of them wore an expression that was solely shock but it was Tate who was the first to recover.
'Enjoy the rest of the party.'
With that, he brushed past Jeremy. Leaving us behind.
