Chapter 13: Christopher

"Well here it is!" Will said as he drove up to a large blue building, wearing the smile of a proud parent.

"Jones Auto Repair," I read the words aloud as is if it were written in a foreign language. Everything I ever wanted was right here before my eyes. This is not the way I wanted to acquire my shop, but here it was. My very own place. Employees working under me. I was the boss. There were no words to describe the mixture of emotions that were running through my body.

"Come on man!" Will said, bringing me back into reality and out of my trance. I followed him inside, where the force of the air conditioner made me shiver. The smell of new tile and freshly painted walls, made me feel accomplished. Maybe this alliance with Will wasn't so bad.

We walked into the spacious waiting room with two big screen televisions.

"One will have cable so the customers can watch whatever they want, and the other will show the service their receiving and the time it should be done," Will said, answering my question before I could ask.

"Cool," I didn't want to seem too amused. He led me to the service garage where all the tools and equipment were new and laid out perfectly, ready to be used. This was more than I could ever imagine for myself. Thinking of my own shop throughout the years, I wanted it to be similar to Earl's. But this. This luxury building that Will was basically handing to me, it was more than I ever deserved. In his eyes, I'm sure I owed him my life.

"The people you hired Will, are they even real mechanics?" I asked. I 'didn't want to tarnish my reputation and lively hood for some thugs he vouched for.

He smiled, "come on man, would I steer you wrong?"

He definitely would. He continued to show me my spacious office, the lunchroom, and even a little cafe, where waiting customers could grab a quick bite. I was impressed. He put a lot of thought into this, even though him and I only had vague conversations about my vision.

"So, what you think man?" Will asked enthusiastically.

"It's really nice. I can't lie," I admitted.

He clapped his hands together, "I knew you'd like it! When are you going to have the grand opening celebration?"

It didn't cross my mind at all. I guess I took too long to respond.

"How about this weekend?" he asked as he studied my face.

"That only gives us a couple days to set things up and spread the news about—"

"Don't worry Chris, I'll handle that."

What was he now? The personal assistant I didn't want.

"Ok,  I have certain people I want to be here, so I'll reach out to them," I said as I walked away wanting to admire more of the place.

I knew he was into illegal activity. There were a million questions I wanted to ask Will, but I bit my tongue. There was a fine line I had to walk with him, and everything was going the way I wanted right now.

"You ready to go?" Will asked, sneaking up behind me.

"Where are we going now?" I asked, wanting to go home and share the good news with Vanessa. I didn't know how I was going to sell the fact that I got a whole furnished high-end shop overnight.

"It's time that I really let you into my world."

"Will...I.."

He cut me off with a grin, "no need to speak. We will  be real blood soon right? I hear I'm going to be an uncle."
