"I know this is suppose to be a happy day, but we need to talk." Will said as he pulled me away from the crowd.

"Not here. Not now." I said quickly as I looked in Vanessa's direction.

He scrunched up his face with disapproval.

"Unless you wanna be locked up for the birth of your baby, you need to listen up," he demanded.

"No, you need to lower your fucking voice!"

A few of Vanessa's nosy family members were looking in our direction.

He whispered, "You know I destroyed the video, but their neighbor is supposed to give a statement that could have us both fucked."

"How do you know this?" I asked.

He smiled, "I have people everywhere."

This dude never ceases to amaze me.

"We'll talk strategy later after I get some of this food!"

He rubbed his belly and disappeared into the crowd. Over the past few months Will and I got closer than I cared to admit.

My phone vibrating in my pocket, startled me. It was Kim. We haven't spoken in so long I almost forgot how her voice sounds. I sent the call to voicemail.

911. Call me ASAP.

I deleted the text as soon as I read it.

My mind began to race wondering what she could possibly want after being ghost for the past three months.

The rest of the gender reveal was a blur. After all the guest were gone, I started cleaning up. It took me awhile to notice that Vanessa was quieter than usual.

She at the kitchen table staring at pictures in a photo album.

"Baby, you OK?" I asked.

"Tiffany found our dad."

She showed no emotion. That worried me.

"How do you feel about that?"

"Honestly, I don't know. He wants to meet up with us for lunch tomorrow, he's in town."

"Are you going to go?"
"I don't know. I mean I don't even remember this man. Why should I care to meet him after all this time has passed?"

"Baby I'm sure you have a lot of unanswered questions, and since you're about to be a mom yourself, I think you need this closure."

She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. Her emotions have been all over the place.

"I'll go. I owe this to myself to meet the man who's caused me so much pain."

I sat beside her, squeezing her body in my arms. I could never understand her pain since I grew up with both parents. She didn't know how lucky she was to have them both alive and well.

She went in the room to lay down. I made sure she was tucked in before I decided to call Kim back.

Listening to the phone ring, I had hoped that she didn't pick up. For her to call me out of the blue, I just knew it had to be bad news.

"Chris?" she asked as if she wasn't expecting it to be me.

"Yeah, what's the emergency?"

I needed her to get straight to the point.

"Is it possible for you to see me?"

"Kim, I don't know what type of games you're trying to..."

"I'm not playing games. It's important. Please. Just five minutes of your time."

I looked at the clock. It was almost 9 pm. I tried to think of what I would tell Vanessa. Knowing her, she was fast asleep by now.

Before I changed my mind, I grabbed my keys and rushed to Kim's house. I thought back to all the times I took these same roads to indulge in infidelity. Heading here now, I was risking falling back into the same pattern. I couldn't be that man anymore. Kim had become a person I did come to care about over our time together. A feeling of anticipation overcame me as I pulled into her driveway. So many scenarios floating around in my mind. What could this be about?

I parked my truck and walked swiftly to the front door. The smell of fresh cut grass greeted me as I waited for her to answer. The thought of another man being there during my absence crept into my thoughts. I wish she would just say whatever she had to say from the window because I didn't want to go inside.

I waited for what seemed like forever, to hear her unlock the door. I took a deep breath as she appeared before my eyes. Twenty pounds heavier with a hand on her stomach.

"Chris, I'm pregnant."
