Chapter 9
Hiro's P.O.V
I was up early the next day, chilling in the cafe. To my great surprise, I saw (y/n) enter the cafe smiling. I rose up and waved. "(Y/n)! I didn't know you were working today! I'll help you-" I was cut off by her shaking her head.
"I came to tell your mother I resign." She said. My heart dropped when she said this, I actually enjoyed her company.
"Where are you working now?" I asked. She debated whether to tell me.
"Um... This really cool place, it's a restaurant in the city." She said.
"Oh, well best wishes for you! We should really hang out when your free." I suggested.
"Sure." She mumbled as she went to find my Aunt. She came back a few minutes later all excited.
"Well, I guess this is a see you later Hiro!" She called. I waved goodbye surprised at the actions that just took place.
As soon as I saw her disappear around the corner, I felt a bit empty. Like the depression was coming back.
I was still going to see her! It's just that the restaurants in the city take a lot longer so we won't really see each other.
I sighed and stumbled to my room, flopping onto my bed. Usually bot fighting would fix my mood but I threw it in an abandoned house last night.
Ah screw it! I know I'm a superhero but no one knows that!
I hopped off my bed and ran back to the area I threw my robot away. I spotted the house and entered it, the glass shattered and obvious that my Megabot was there.
However, I found nothing. I was sure I threw it here! I checked the other houses until I came upon one that was locked.
I peered through the window and saw nothing. Surprisingly a dirty mattress was there but that was it.
I kicked the loose pebbles on the ground in anger. I lost something I made when I was little, it was like my first robot... Apart from the one I built with Tadashi.
I can't believe I threw it away! I was so stupid! Angrily, I stormed home and ignored Aunt Cass's protests to talk to me. How was I so foolish!?
(Y/n) P.O.V
I arrived home and started to get ready for my first bot fight. I found some baggy clothes and an old hoodie. I pulled the clothes on and covered my face with the hood.
I grabbed a few dollars and Invincible, walking out into the cool night and finding my way around the alley.
I eventually found the place and watched as a big robot tore up a really sharp one.
"Who would like a go now?" A lady screeched. She had blue and black hair that was tied up in an extremely tight ponytail, she wore little to no clothing items and made me want to puke.
"Um... Hi! I'm new to all of this... May I challenge you?" I asked as everyone laughed.
"Kid... I'm not usually nice plus you have no chance." She sneered.
"Please... I need to try... Even if I fail... Please!" I begged as people laughed harder.
"How much you got?" She demanded. I pulled out the cash and she snorted. "It's not much but whatever, your face when you lose your only pocket money will be satisfying enough."
I sat down in a fighting ring and placed my humiliated robot on the ground. We started to fight and immediately I felt like I was going to lose.
I pressed another button and to my surprise, switched the smiling yellow face for a red angry one. Confused, I pressed my buttons again but was surprised to see my robot act differently.
I caught on quickly to my robots new abilities and attacked the opponents robot multiple times.
Invincible ran at the lady's robot and slowly pulled it apart until all that was left was a head. We both stared shocked as I pressed a button to change Invincible's face to happy.
"That was awesome!" I cheered as I collected the money I won. I walked away as everyone cheered in delight.
"I must say... Very deceiving robot you have there girl... Does it have a name?" She asked.
"Invincible..." I said. I left the alley feeling happy, at least my opponent was a good sport, I don't think everyone would be.
I count my money as I walked home. $5000!!! I was so shocked!!! I headed back to my front door and opened it, flopping on my bed mattress.
I stared at Invincible and smiled, I could use half of the money for my needs and the rest for upgrades!!
Maybe Hiro could teach me a thing or two about robotics and I could upgrade the robot myself.
I would have Hiro do the upgrades on Invincible but I'm worried what Hiro would say, plus I told him I was working at a restaurant already.
The next day I hurried out to find Hiro before he went to SFIT. "HIRO!!! WAIT!" I called. Hiro turned his head around and stopped, waving to me.
"Is everything okay?" He asked.
"Yeah... Can I come to SFIT with you?" I asked. He looked shocked at me and smiled.
"Sure... Don't you have work though?" He asked. I shook my head.
"Not until next week! I need your help!" I exclaimed excitedly.
"Oh! What with?" He asked.
"How to upgrade robots." I said.
"How to what?! (Y/n)... You know nothing about the subject." Hiro pointed out.
"Yeah but... I figured you could teach me... Unless you don't want to then I'll go." I said disappointed. Hiro held me back.
"No I will! It's just... I didn't expect you to ask me for help on robotics." He admitted.
I shrugged and followed him to the institute. We walked around a bit until we reached a lab that was very messy.
"I'll start with the basics." Hiro said. Oh boy, this was going to be a long day.
By the end of the day, Hiro had only gone through 267 of the lessons. This greatly surprised him as he didn't know I was a fast learner and I had amazing memory. Tomorrow we would be learning the last 129 lessons on robotics.
