Chapter Eight: Lost
Myra swallowed and knew it would be best if she separated the two quickly.
"Link and I will go north." She offered, looking to the sky to get her bearings.
"We'll take the South." Enzo stated, before running off with Samus.
"I guess that leaves us with West." Lelouch took off before anything else could happen.
Myra breathed a tiny sigh of relief. With her Amiibo Partner at her side, she headed to their specified direction.
Instantly the dirt path grew wider. Tall grass swayed at the edges, curling around scattered stones and thick-trunked trees. Soft fluffy snow fell silently from branches. Not much was on the undergrowth, though; the pines kept it out.
A fox ducked behind a boulder with a yip when the two walked by. Other than that, nothing moved. Slowly, Myra could see the trees were growing thicker. After about ten minutes of walking deeper into the forest, the sunlight was almost completely drowned.
Myra got an odd feeling in the bottom of her stomach. The way the trees stood still and the forest stayed quiet made her nervous. "I've got a bad feeling about this..." She muttered, pushing aside a branch.
By now she was walking completely blind. Once in a while Myra found herself face first in the dirt, which was totally embarrassing every time her companion had to help her up. Still, the feeling never disappeared.
Time seemed to be non-existent, especially considering she forgot a watch. "I think we're done. There's no one here." Myra said, slumping down in a patch of grass next to the path. "Maybe one of the others had more luck."
Just ahead of her she could see Link looking around. Instinctively she did the same. That's when the realization struck her; they were stuck in the middle of a pitch-black forest, full of unknown creatures, in winter,
And had no idea where they were.

Half an hour passed.
But Myra didn't know that. Instead, she was pacing back and forth frantically, making a huge show.
"How could I be so naïve? I should have known we'd get stuck here!" She threw her arms in the air. When she turned to her companion, she noticed him wipe a knowing smirk off his face. Myra wished the mute Character could be of more help.
That's when the sinking feeling left. Something clicked in her mind. She remembered in all those games she'd played, from RPGs to Adventure, to Fantasy. How would a Character get out of this?
"I can't see the sun, so let's fix that..." Myra swept her gaze to the tall trees. She ran to one with a thick trunk, leaping up and wrapping her limbs around it. Quickly she shimmied up, and then grabbed the lowest branch with her right hand.
As fast as she could, she lifter her left hand and reached it over beside the right. With little effort, she heaved herself up. Myra crouched on the branch and wiped sweat from her forehead. The thick down jacket wasn't helping her any.
This continued for a few minutes, until Myra finally reached the top of the tree. By now she was using the dwindling trunk as a foothold, and the thin branches to grab on to. Thank Stars for that gymnastic training... And for those games. She thought to herself, looking out on the treetops.
Unluckily, she was also staring at a dark night sky full of twinkling lights. Normally this would be pretty, but not when she and her Amiibo Partner were stuck in a strange forest, with no food and no idea how to get back.
However Myra could work with what she had. Her emerald eyes found the moon, because the sky wasn't cloudy, which was a relief. It was directly to her left. I can only assume the night is young; Myra then sidled around the top of the pine tree until she faced the bright celestial body. Her mind wandered back to an old survival game she played when she was younger. There was one way you could use a waning moon to find directions.
Myra lined up the two horns of the crescent, and then brought up a hand to trace a straight line to the horizon. There, she would see an approximation of the south. Remembering the direction, Myra slowly slid down the tree. When she got near the base she hopped onto branches, then to the ground, landing roughly.
She stood up and brushed herself off. "South is that way, so that means to get back to the village we need to go there." Myra pointed to a thin path weaving through the thick trunks and bushes. Wind whispered through the forests, causing plants to sway and moan.
Without more hesitation Myra led the way down the path. Her boots crunched the thin layer of snow. Occasionally they would reach a stretch of dirt when the trees got thick. Owls hooted and the animals of the night emerged.
"What's that?" Myra slowed to a halt. In front of them was a large, black shape. At the distance they were at, it looked too small to be a wolf, and too big to be a coyote. However she was most confused by the shadowy sails emerging from the creatures back, indicating wings.
The unknown animal stalked closer, lowering its head. Most likely out of instinct, Myra's Amiibo companion drew his sword.
As it got closer, it got bigger. The lack of light concealed its colours, but Myra didn't want to get close enough to find out. Two paces away, it now appeared the size of a horse. That's when it let out a deep growl.
"I know you can fight, but I don't want to stick around and see if you'll win." Myra whispered. "So I say we run!"
She turned around, racing through the trees and jumping over roots. By now she was making a new path. Looking behind her, Myra could see Link had followed. She expected as much, he didn't seem like a very rash Character.
Clearing her thoughts, Myra kept running for what felt like forever. The pounding footsteps of whatever the hell had faced them faded away, giving up chase. Out of exhaustion, Myra fell to the ground with gasping breaths.
"This is not how I wanted my first day to go." She panted. However her companion wasn't listening, he was still staring down the way they had come, hand on the hilt of his sword.
"I don't think it's coming back," Myra assured him; but it took a while for him to relax.
Myra stood up and looked around. With a huff, she realized the way they needed to go was towards that strange creature.
Then she remembered, again. What would I do in a video game? It took her a while to think. "I would lure it away with something. But what..?" She muttered, and then scanned the area. There were twigs, rocks, and bushes, nothing that would help or make a loud enough sound to distract it.
Myra's thoughts abruptly stopped. The clearing around her felt empty. When she figured it out, she let out a noise that was a mix between an exasperated sigh and a yelp of fright. Her companion had disappeared.
~*~*~*~
"Link, Link!" Myra called out, however she kept her voice slightly hushed in fear of alerting the creature. "Where has that Character run off to?" She growled, pushing aside a bush that grabbed at her ankles. By now the fur at the mouth of her boots was caked in snow, and some ripped off.
What surprised her the most was how concerned she was for him. They'd just met yesterday, and Myra didn't even know he was a living thing until then. There was no explanation for her to be risking her hide for someone she thought was pure fiction.
Rustling bushes brought her back to focus. Myra's head snapped up, only to see the Character in question rush into the clearing. He motioned for her to follow him, so she did. Before she could ask what just happened, a crash came from behind them.
The creature came rampaging through, knocking down a small pine tree. It left large footprints in the snow. Looking up, Myra noticed the forest was thinning out. They were going in the right direction!
What on earth did he do? She rolled her eyes, and just kept running. Maybe if they reached the village whatever that thing was would go away. By now Myra could see the lights of the town. In the current state she was in, they were much more welcoming.
Only a little bit more.... Myra stole a glance behind them. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the creature was sill racing towards them. The darkness was still hiding most of it from view, but Myra could clearly see sharp fangs. Was this creature magic somehow? But this place couldn't have magic, could it?
She realized it could. Several of the Characters had magic. Robin did, Zelda did, and several more could have what's considered magic. So yes, what was currently trying to kill her could indeed be magical.
At last the two of them reached the edge of the town. Questions began surfacing in Myra's mind. What is that thing? Why would Luke and Barley put us in this kind of danger? How is the forest so big? What other secrets does it hold? But she knew there would be no answers.
Myra sat down in the snow to catch her breath. If whatever it was caught her, so be it. Things hadn't made sense in this weird place. Maybe it wouldn't kill her, and she'd just wake up at home, to find out this was all a dream and life really was as simple and mundane as that world made it out to be.
But when she looked over to Link, she knew that it couldn't be true. She didn't want this to be a dream. Myra wouldn't give up, because she had friends. Real friends. And if it came down to it, she'd fight for them. For Enzo, for Luke, Barley, and Link.
So she stood up and faced the creature.

Whaa? A chapter on Monday? Yup! Welcome to the week of Christmas, where every day is a new chapter! But this one is short, and frankly, poorly written. Sorry. But nonetheless, in this one, Myra will encounter a few things that will become more important later in the story, if you look close enough. Don't forget to vote and comment, and keep your eyes open, muahaha.
