Chapter Nineteen: Invaders

Myra exchanged a glance with Benji, as they both stood in shock as strange figures emerged from the Subspace-like material.

"What the hell is going on?" Myra muttered.

"You're close to the Champion, we can go find her, she'll know." Benji suggested.

Through the Bond, Myra tried to ask Link for advice. But he stayed silent, and didn't even acknowledge her question. She was about to report this to Benji, before realizing he didn't know about the Bond. Instead, she nodded. "Good idea."

The three of them joined the crowd, before making it out of the arena. Myra led the way down the gravel path, and towards the Plaza. It was eerily quiet after the bustle of the arena. She darted her gaze around, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Champion's cloak.

After what felt like ages of searching, Myra stopped wandering and instead set her course for the Champion's home. She wouldn't put it above the mysterious woman to hide during the strange attack. With a grumble, Myra, Benji and Shulk set off.

By now the streets had mostly cleared up. She turned to the boy following her. "Benji, perhaps you and Shulk should go search for Ember and Enzo. I have a feeling they'll be in the fight."

Benji nodded. "Sure, I'll meet with you at the Plaza once this' all over."

With a grin, Myra waited as the two ran off, before continuing towards the humble cabin.

The snow was melting slowly as spring crawled it's way into the town. Tiny streams of water criss-crossed the gravel pathway as Myra passed. Her boots crunched into the ground, causing a pair of thrushes to flutter into the air from the grass beside her.

Ahead was the house; already Myra could tell something was off.

She quickened her steps, approaching the wooden staircase and making her way to the door. Instinctively she tried the handle, and it turned under her grip. But before she could enter, her own mental voice cautioned her, reminding her about her companion's disapproval at her last breaking and entering.

Instead Myra backed up a bit and politely knocked. Almost instantly the wood door swung open, revealing the mostly deserted foyer. Inside Myra spotted a figure.

She entered and the door closed behind her. Turning around she came face to face with the young Elaine. Her hair was tied back in a braid that swept around her neck and settled on her shoulder. Without word Elaine went to join her companion.

"Elaine? Zelda? What are you two doing here?" Myra asked, studying the dark oaken living room of the Champion's home.

"Same reason you're here." Elaine replied, a mysteriously knowing spark in her eyes. "Looking for the Champion."

Myra nervously licked her lips. "Where is she?"

"Couldn't find her. She's not here." Elaine replied. "We checked everywhere,"

"And outside? Do you think she's in the battle?" Myra pushed.

"She's not. Zelda was just there."

Letting out an uncharacteristic growl, Myra turned around on the spot, thinking. 'A little help would be nice,' she aimed the quip to her companion. Still, it turned up no response. Finally giving up with his sudden silent treatment, Myra returned her attention to Elaine and Zelda.

"You don't think she's gone missing, do you?"

"I dunno..." Elaine's gaze darted around the room.

Myra noticed the young girl's companion open her mouth to speak, but then appeared to decide against it and settled for silence once more. 'She's hiding something...'

A sudden rap on the door shook Myra from her thoughts. She took the liberty to open it, and Benji stumbled in. He blinked up at Myra, then to Elaine and Zelda.

"Benji? What's up? Where's Enzo?" Myra asked.

The boy shrugged. "He wasn't at the arena, or anywhere near the Plaza. Those bastards have practically taken over Pocket. Best part is I still have no clue what they are." Benji said.

Worry knotted Myra's brows, and she bent her head down to look at the floor. She was missing something, she know it. Not only that but something was bothering her companion, enough to make him ignore her.

"I'm going to go back outside. If the Champion isn't here, there's no use sticking around in hopes to find her." She took initiative, something her normally submissive attitude was not used to.

"Good point." Benji agreed, following Myra as she made her way to the exit.

Elaine sighed in an Elaine way, and beckoned her companion as she followed the others.

Outside had changed in the short amount of time it had taken them. Clouds blotched out the sun, sneering at the ground below as they stole the light.

A sinking feeling grew in the pit of Myra's stomach, and she wheeled around, taking in the surroundings. Everything looked the same, but for whatever reason there was something missing.

"You're a little too predictable, Myra."

A warm voice sounded behind her, right from the direction she was just looking. Of course. The Champion stood tall before her, blue cloak and all. Craning her neck a little, Myra looked up at her.

"We were looking for you," Myra stated.

"We thought you'd know what's going on." Benji added.

The Champion didn't say anything for a while. "I do know. I've faced it before." She finally sighed, "But I shouldn't be the one you're looking for." She nodded towards Myra.

"What?"

The feeling in her stomach exploded as her hand reached for the pocket on her chest. Her companion. He wasn't there.
