Chapter 13....
Slightly Edited!
Song above is...Rainbow by Liz Huett (From the movie Leap! This song is amazing! I am in love!)
Happy Reading :)
"It's Friday bitches!"
Glancing up from my textbook I watched as Derek jumped onto the table shaking his hips like a weirdo. Olivia slid in next to me on the bench shaking her head at her best friend.
"Tell me why I'm friends with him again?" Olivia asks.
"Because I'm awesome." Derek answered, still standing on the table grinning like an idiot. I watched amused as the two bickered back and forth about Derek being awesome. I was too busy watching the pair to notice Alex slide up next to me.
"Hey." Alex spoke right into my ear scaring the crap out of me.
"Alex!" I hissed, clenching onto my text book tighter.
"You get scared so easily." He chuckled.
"When someone breathes into your ear like that of course you'll get scared." I smacked his arm. "Don't do that." In response Alex just shook his head, still laughing under his breath.
"So what are we doing to do this weekend?" Derek asked loudly, looking away from Olivia to Alex and I.
"Uh working?" I supplied.
"No, not 'working'. Come on Riley we gotta do something fun!"
"Like?" Alex asked, leaning his forearms on the table. He leaned around me to look at his friend which made him severely close to me. Ignoring the heat coming off of him I looked at Derek as well.
"Like...bungee jumping!"
"Nope." Olivia and I said at the same time. That wasn't going to happen.
"Okay how about going to a bar?"
"There isn't a bar here in town." I pointed out.
"Not here but in Seattle there is." Derek said, looking almost proud of himself for thinking of it.
Everyone was quiet for a moment.
"Uh Derek we aren't 21."
"I bet there are some 18 or older clubs. If not we can just sneak in." I loved that he thought it would be that easy to sneak into a club.
"I mean..." Olivia trailed off looking over at me and Alex.
"We can ask the others after school and see." Alex shrugged as if he was seriously considering it.
"Wait are you serious?" I looked between all three of them. "We can't go to a club."
"Why not?" Derek asked. "It's Friday."
"I..." I looked toward Olivia for some help but she just looked at me with hopeful eyes. Next I turned to Alex who was already looking at me.
"Scared, freckles?" A glint appeared in his grey eyes as I looked down at me.
"What? No I'm not scared."
"Then why not go with us?" Alex leaned forward a bit more, his face inches from mine. I opened my mouth for some comeback but I didn't have any.
I wasn't quite sure why I was hesitating about going. Wasn't like I had parents who wouldn't let me, or other plans.
"If you're not scared then come with us." He taunted. I knew what he was doing yet it was working.
"I uh don't have anything to wear." I lamely supplied.
"I can fix that!" Olivia chimed in. I glanced at Olivia hopelessly but it was clear she wasn't going to say anything. From the look both her and Derek were sending me I knew I couldn't get out of it.
"Fine. I'll go." At that Olivia and Derek cheered.
"You can come to my house Riley and we can get ready together!" She started chattering excitedly. "I need to text Lexi and have her come over too."
While she texted Lexi I felt eyes once again on me. Turning to my left I found Alex smirking.
"What?"
"Nothing. Just surprised you said yes is all." I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Uh huh."
"Oh loosen up freckles. It will be fun."
"Okay we are all set! Lexi will come over to my place around 3 so we can all get ready together."
"Can I come along? I'd love to see-I mean help you guys get ready." Derek asked with a wide grin. Olivia instantly reached out and smacked the back of his head.
"That is never going to happen, so stop asking." I choked on my laughter not expecting that. "What time should we go?"
While her and Derek talked about times and searching up where we go, Alex nudged my shoulder.
"How's the wrist?"
"Uh its good." I couldn't help but find it endearing that he kept asking about my wrist.
Alex took me home last night from Noah's house and as soon as we pulled into my driveway he was telling me to put more ice on my wrist. I doubted I needed that much ice on it but from the look he sent me I did it anyways.
It was odd how concerned he was about it but I couldn't deny that it was nice having some attention on me.
"Can I see it?" The softness of his voice was enough for me to wordlessly extend my hand towards him. As soon as his bare skin touched mine everything else faded around me. Derek and Olivia's conversation went silent. All I could focus on was the gentle touch of Alex's fingers running across my wrist.
I looked down at my wrist at the same time as him and winced at what I saw. The redness faded last night into a deep purple. In just a matter of hours the bruise seemed to get darker. I absolutely hated that Mitch left more than an emotional mark on me.
"You don't need anymore ice which is good but that bruise will take a while to fade."
"You seem to know a lot about bruises." I commented, looking back at his face. With his eyes down his long eyelashes almost caused a shadow over his face and it instantly made me jealous.
"I've had my fair share of bruises." Alex stated, moving the sleeve of my shirt down and gently letting go of my wrist.
"It's settled then!" Olivia drew our attention away from each other towards her. "We will meet up at my house at 5 o'clock to head into Seattle. It takes about 2 hours so that will give us plenty of time to get there, find a club, dance for a bit and head home around 10. That way we will get home at midnight." Olivia rattled off. Her planning skills coming into great use at the moment.
"Alex, please make sure this idiot gets there on time." She jerked her thumbs towards Derek who responded with an, 'hey'.
"Will do."
I sat there almost helplessly as Olivia planned our entire friday night out in a matter of minutes. The bell rang for the end of lunch and Olivia scurried off typing rapidly on her phone, while Derek trailed after her.
"Are you guys always this spontaneous?" I questioned, gathering my stuff.
"Yep, especially Derek." As someone who liked to plan things the idea of doing something spontaneous like this slightly terrified me. "Don't look so terrified freckles, it will be." Alex nudged me with his shoulder gently but it was still enough to make me stumble to the side.
"You are such a klutz." He chuckled, grabbing my elbow to steady me.
"Am not! You and your big shoulders made me stumble."
"Oh I have big shoulders?" He immediately latched onto that part of my sentence.
"That wasn't a compliment you know."
"So you go around telling all guys that they have big shoulders?" His cocky self was back but I honestly didn't really mind it. It wasn't the usual cockiness most guys around here had. Mitch was the annoying cocky; thinking he was better than everyone else and making everyone else feel smaller than him. Alex wasn't like that, not even a little bit.
Rolling my eyes I took my seat in Biology.
"Scientifically speaking all guys have big shoulders. Don't feel flattered."
"Whatever you say freckles, whatever you say."
I didn't bother to respond as I took out my textbook and notebook. Right before the bell was to ring a throat cleared next to our table. Glancing up I found one of Rebecca's cronies standing there. I think her name was Sabrina but honestly had no clue.
"So, Alex do you have any plans for tonight? My parents are going to be gone..." She trailed off leaning forward a bit more, shoving her low cut top into Alex's face.
I couldn't help but watch as she flirted with Alex. Even though she was friends with Rebecca and someone who liked to make my life hell I couldn't deny that she was pretty. She was actually gorgeous with strawberry blonde hair that went all the way down her back in soft curls, bright blue eyes that almost looked doll like, and a tone body that almost every girl would kill for. She may even be prettier than Rebecca, even though they looked kind of the same.
Sitting there as she flirted I felt my insecurities rise. There was no way I was even close to being as pretty as she was. She was definitely someone Alex could be seen dating. The sight of her was actually making me a little sick. Glancing away I looked back at my notebook.
"I have plans actually." At Alex's voice I looked over at him from the corner of my eye. I watched as he reached up and pried her hand off of his arm.
"Oh what are they? Maybe I can come along." I didn't have to look at her to know she was pouting her lips and fluttering her eyelashes at him.
"I have to help my grandma cut her toe nails. She has such bad bunions that she needs help washing and cleaning her feet weekly. Unless you want to come help?" He explained with all seriousness. I quickly clamped my lips together so I couldn't laugh.
"Oh...uh...maybe next time." Whatever her name said, disgust plain in her voice. I waited until she walked off and took her seat near the front of the classroom before speaking.
"Bunions huh?" Unable to keep the amusement out of my voice.
"Yeah, huge bunions."
With a smile growing on my face and the pressure in my chest lifting I turned back to the front of the classroom as the teacher started talking.

Because I had nothing else to do after school, Olivia and I decided I spend the rest of the day at her house since I was going to get ready there anyways. Olivia's home was one of those cute yet older style of homes. She later explained that it belonged to her grandparents who had moved to Florida a few years ago.
It was so cute and instantly had that homey feel to it the moment you walked through the doors. You could tell it had belonged to her grandparents with the old fashion wallpaper, and just the whole vibe. It was almost like you could tell there was a lot of love in the house.
Because Olivia's dad was still at work we made ourselves comfortable in her room with snacks surrounding us. Her room really fit her. With light pink walls, tons of pictures covering it, along with some older posters she hadn't gotten around to taking down, and there was even a corner with stuff animals. They say the way someone decorates their room shows their personality and this really did.
After talking about our classes and the upcoming tests we knew were approaching Olivia got quiet for a moment. I knew there was something she wanted to ask as she chewed on her lip.
"What is it?" I asked, already having a feeling I knew what it was about.
"Nothing I just...what happened between you and Mitch?" At the mention of his name my back tensed up. She must have noticed the expression on my face for she quickly backtracked. "You don't have to tell me! Sorry I shouldn't have asked."
"No, its okay."
"It's just...I've heard the rumors but I don't believe them." She quickly added. "You don't seem like the type to do those sort of things."
I stared at her trying to decide if I should tell her or not. To finally tell someone what really happened and have them believe me, not everyone else. But I was afraid that if I did tell her it would all blow up in my face.
But with the sincere look on Olivia's face I knew she wouldn't do that to me. She wasn't like that.
"Oh man where do I begin." Taking a deep breath I launched into the whole story. I told her everything from when Mitch came up and talked to me for the first time, to when he humiliated me in front of the whole school. By the end of the story I felt like a weight had been lifted off of my chest. That finally telling someone the truth made me feel better.
Olivia was quiet for a moment before she shot up off her bed.
"That asshole! God, I've never liked Mitch but to do that to you!" She growled, pacing the length of her room. I couldn't help but grin at her reaction. She looked beyond furious but at the same time she couldn't hurt a bunny. Hearing her go off on how much she hated Mitch made me like her even more.
"I'm so sorry Riley. He should have never done that to you." She took a seat next to me, reaching out and grabbing my hand. Normally the look of pity would piss me off but with her it didn't.
"Its okay. I'm getting through it." I shrugged despite the still ever aching pain in my chest.
"Well now you don't have to go through it alone. You have us." She smiled at me. At her words my own smile appeared.
Having Olivia not judge me and tell me she was on my side, made me feel better and made me feel closer to her. In just a short amount of time I already felt like we were close friends.
"Thanks Liv." At the nickname the others called her her smile widened. I felt like now we were close enough to finally start calling her Liv.
"Now that conversation is out of the way...whats up with you and Alex?" Her question threw me off.
"Me and Alex?" There was no 'Me and Alex'.
"Don't think we haven't noticed you two flirting."
"We aren't flirting!" My voice came out all high pitched and weird. "We've only known each other for like a week."
"My mom use to always say, 'Sometimes you can feel more with someone who you've known for a week than someone you've known a lifetime'." Liv spoke, her going soft as she spoke about her mom. "Her and my dad met their first year of college. My mom always told me how she knew a week later she was going to marry him, same went with my dad." She cleared her throat and looked back at me. "That could happen with you and Alex."
Even though her story was sweet and I wished it worked out that way, I knew it wouldn't for me. After this whole Mitch thing I'm too broken to be with someone, let alone Alex Kinley. Plus a week isn't enough to fall in love with someone.
"I don't think so." I mumbled looking down at her bedspread.
"Even so, its been nice seeing him act the way he does with you." At her words my curiosity peaked.
"What do you mean?"
"There are some..things you don't know about Alex's life. Things that only he can tell you." She added having seen my questioning stare. "But its been nice seeing him happy again and not that shell of a person he has become. Ever since he met you he's becoming like his old self."

When Lexi showed up a little after three things passed in a blur. One second we were sitting around Olivia's room making small talk and the next Liv was throwing outfits at me.
"Is she always so...bossy?" I asked Lexi softly, as Olivia riffled through her pretty sizable closet.
"Yep." Lexi spoke from her spot on Olivia's bed while playing on her phone. "Liv is the mother hen of the group. She makes the plans, makes sure Derek doesn't do something stupid."
It seemed to be an usual occurrence of Derek being and idiot.
"We have two hours until the guys get here and we have so much to do."
"It doesn't take that long to get dressed." I stupidly replied. A pillow suddenly hit my face making me turn and glare at Lexi. Signaling for me to hush she gestured to Olivia, who was standing there shaking her head at me.
"Oh Riley you have so much to learn. Two hours is barely enough time to pick out the perfect outfit, do makeup and hair." She practically scolded. At her motherly tone I instantly shut up and glanced over at Lexi. She shot me a 'told-you-so' look and shrugged.
"Since Lexi already knows what she is wearing, your up first Riley. Take these and go change." Liv demanded, shoving another piece of clothing at me.
"Do I get a say?"
"Nope." She gestured for me to go into the bathroom and changed. When I didn't immediately move I received a firm look, which made my feet move.
Closing the bathroom door behind me I looked down at the pieces of clothing she gave me to wear. Seeing the color burgundy I perked up a bit, loving that color. I was surprised that it all fit as I started putting the outfit on.
I was severely glad Liv gave me a long sleeve shirt so it covered the ugly bruise on my wrist. The moment I put the shirt on though I hesitated. It was striped but see through so you could clearly see my black bra. While you could see my bra, it did go well with the shirt but definitely something I normally wouldn't wear.
The shirt was a bit snug and stuck to my upper body but it wasn't too uncomfortable, thank god. Next I slide on the really cute burgundy color skirt she gave me. It fit absolutely perfect on me, although it showed a lot of my bare legs. Thank god I shaved a few days ago!

(Riley's outfit is the third from the left. I freaking love all of these )
Looking at my reflection in the mirror I ran my hands over the outfit. It was actually really cute. Not too fancy for a club yet not as casual as my jeans would have been. Feeling a little self-conscious showing more skin than I normally do, I opened the bathroom door.
"Liv I-"
"Wow." She interrupted me as I stepped into her room.
"Who knew you were a girl under there." Lexi said, looking me up and day. If it wasn't for the teasing grin that appeared on her face I would have taken the comment to heart.
"You don't think it's too...revealing?" I asked.
"Definitely not. It's so you! And I have the perfect shoes for you to wear later. What size are you?"
"Uh 7?"
"I'm a 6 1/2 so may be a bit snug but it should work. Damn I'm good." Liv nodded to herself as if she was mentally patting herself on the back. "Now lets do your hair and makeup."
"What about Lexi?" There was no way I was going to let her get of this if I was getting poked and prodded.
"She's getting dressed, aren't you Lexi?" Lexi got up with a groan knowing better than to argue. She went over to the door and picked up a duffle bag I didn't even notice she brought in with her.
"Now for your makeup I won't go too heavy, kay?" Liv moved me towards her vanity and pushed me onto the little chair. I just nodded, figuring I better just let her do her thing. I wasn't much of a makeup person. Just a bit of concealer, mascara, lipstick and I called it good.
My eyes looked around her vanity and was surprised at how much makeup she actually had. For someone who didn't look like she wore a lot she had a shit ton.
"Woah did you buy all of this makeup?"
"Most of it, but I have makeup subscriptions to." When Olivia opened a couple of drawers of the vanity my jaw dropped. Each cabinet was stocked with different brands of makeup, expensive makeup brands. I wasn't that much of a makeup idiot to not know the high end brands. It almost looked like a Youtube makeup guru's vanity!
"Woah." I breathed. "Why do you need so much makeup?"
"You haven't told her huh?" Lexi's voiced filled the room as she came out of the bathroom. I looked at her through the mirror and my eyebrows raised.
She was dressed in a pair of black leather-y pants, a similar see-through shirt like mine but had a different design. The entire outfit stuck to her like skin showing off curves I hadn't even realized she had. Dressed in all black she looked even more of a badass.
But it wasn't the outfit that surprised me, in a way it screamed Lexi. No, it was the fact that her face had been scrubbed free of any makeup. The normal dark, smokey eye was gone making her light grayish blue eyes brighter somehow.

(Lexi's outfit is the first on the left. Totally fits her)
Her face looked a little pale next to her dark black hair. But I honestly thought she looked way prettier this way. When Lexi moved out of the way of the mirror I finally tuned back into the conversation.
"Told me what?" I looked at Olivia who turned over her shoulder to glare at Lexi, who in turn didn't even see fazed.
"I was going to tell you I swear." When Liv looked back at me I felt my chest tighten at the look on her face. What was she talking about? Oh god was I lured here to be humiliated? At that thought I quickly shook my head. No, Olivia wouldn't do that. Stop jumping to conclusions. I scolded myself.
"Liv?"
"I do makeup tutorials on Youtube." She blurted. At her words I instantly felt relief wash over me.
"That's awesome Liv!" I beamed at her.
"It is?" She seemed surprised by my reaction.
"Told you she wouldn't care." Lexi scoffed sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Why would I care? I love watching tutorials on Youtube." It kind of made sense now. All that makeup just to wear it to school? "Damn you make youtube videos and take college classes, are you wonder woman?" How the hell did she have the time to do anything?
"I record multiple videos at a time." She laughed, going back to grabbing makeup.
We spent the next twenty minutes talking about how she got on Youtube and the type of things she does. It was interesting hearing everything she does that it distracted me from her poking at my skin. I wasn't use to makeup that my eyes kept watering every time she put eyeshadow on, but she made it quick as possible. Before I knew it she was telling me I was done.
"Here take a look while I grab my curling iron." She turned me around to face the mirror again. Seeing my reflection I was impressed. I still looked like me just more...enhanced. Liv kept the makeup light and just enhanced my cheekbones and eyebrows. What I loved the most was the maroon colored lipstick that matched my skirt. She did an amazing job.
"Liv you are really talented." I praised as she came back with her curling iron.
"Thank you." She beamed.
After putting on some music, Liv spent the next ten minutes curling my hair and humming along to the words. By time she was done and told me I was good to go my ass had fallen asleep from sitting for so long. More than thankful to be done I jumped up, letting Lexi take my spot.
While Lexi was getting her makeup and hair done I grabbed my phone wanting to check out Olivia's youtube page. What I saw was actually shocking. The girl has over 4 million subscribers! How no one in our town knew I have no freaking idea.
With a soft smile I hit subscribe so I could binge watch her stuff tomorrow. Feeling slightly giddy that I knew a popular youtuber, I tuned back into their conversation.
By time Liv was done with Lexi I understood why she wanted to get started earlier. We had only 30-ish minutes until the guys arrived and Liv hadn't even started on her own self. I was finally understanding how hard it was to do makeup and hair. Hence one of the reasons I usually never put any effort into it for school.
"Have you ever been to a club before?" Lexi suddenly asked, as Liv was changing in the bathroom.
"Uh no." I answered embarrassed. Sure I was only 17 but tons of kids my age have been to clubs. And apparently so has these guys. I haven't hung out with Alex's group of friends long but long enough to feel like a total loser. I haven't done half the things they have.
"A couple of tips then. One, don't drink anything anyone gives you unless its one of us." I knew that one from going to parties with Mitch.
"Two, stay near one of us at all times; and I mean at all times." The hard look she sent me had me nodding instantly. I wasn't planning on leaving their side anyways but the tone she was using meant I didn't want to know what happens if I wander off.
"Three, if someone gets handsy on the dance floor step on their feet, hard. Or elbow to the ribs. That always works."
The more tips she listed off made me suddenly grow nervous. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to go to a club. It sounded a little too...intense.
"Lexi you are scaring her!" Olivia scolded.
"I'm just giving her some tips." Olivia rolled her eyes at her.
"It's not that bad Riley, you'll have fun."
Yeah stop stressing Riley! I inwardly scolded myself. I was thinking too much into it. I was finally going out with a group of 'friends' and I wasn't going to let myself ruin it.
"Here these are for you." Liv said, walking past me to hand me a pair of shoes. I went to say thanks but the words died on my lips. In my hands were a pair of bootie heels. They were beyond cute but that wasn't the issue, it was how tall they were. The heel had to be a good 4 inch heel. I couldn't walk in heels for the life of me.
Even just baby heels I couldn't do. I would always wobble or find something to trip on. After staring at the heels for a good minute I sighed. I was already going out of my comfort zone might as well add the heels to the mix. Hopefully it didn't end badly.
Sitting on the edge of Liv's bed I slid on the cute booties, finding them to fit about perfect. They were a bit tight but that would probably help keep my feet stable. When I stood up I felt so freaking tall; which was definitely new to me.
With Lexi and Liv adding finishing touches to themselves I walked around the room a few times to get use to the heels. When I didn't wobble or trip once I did a mental happy dance. I may be okay tonight.
The sound of the doorbell ringing three times in a row jerked me out of my happy dance. Through Olivia's open door I heard the front door open and four loud familiar voices echo through the empty house.
"Riley here you go." I turned away from the door to find Liv standing in front of me, holding out a clutch. "This is yours. I put in extra lipstick, which you can keep by the way. You can put whatever you want in it for tonight."
Knowing the guys were downstairs waiting I quickly put my phone, keys, gum that I found in my bag, and some money in the clutch.
"You girls coming?" Alex yelled from downstairs. Suddenly I felt my nervous skyrocket.
"Lets go show Alex what he is missing." Liv said before looping her arm through mine and dragging me out of her room. I was silently thankful she did because I was sure I'd stay in her room all night without the little shove.
Lexi went down first, giving me a second to gather myself. With an encouraging smile from Olivia I forced my legs down the stairs after her. I kept my gaze on my feet as I held onto the banister with one hand, and the other clenching onto the clutch for dear life. The last thing I needed was to trip and go flying down the staircase.
Just as my foot hit the last step I heard a soft 'damn'. Glancing up I watched as Derek stared at Olivia with wide eyes. I didn't blame him. Liv had on a gorgeous black dress that hugged her hips. The sides of the dress were open showing off bare skin. While it was higher necked it showed off her nice legs. She paired it with a pair of cute black heels. Her blonde hair in a cute up-do. Liv looked beyond gorgeous.

(Olivia's outfit is on the left. Sorry if you guys don't like outfit images! I thought maybe help you get an idea)
I hide a grin at the expression on Derek's face. He wasn't be subtle about it though.
"Well you clean up nice." I looked away from Derek and Olivia to find Alex and Noah standing in front of me. At first I thought it was Alex that spoke but it was Noah.
"Thank you." I felt my cheeks heat up, making me duck my head. I found myself looking up through my lashes at Alex who just stood there staring at me. I had no control over my eyes as they raked over his form.
Alex was wearing a mouth watering blue button up shirt that he left a few buttons undone, showing off a bit of his chest. The shirt hugged his biceps, making them look bigger than I remembered. The dark blue jeans he wore looked really good on him.

(This man is finneee!)
Still blushing under his gaze I looked over the rest of the guys. They were all dressed a little more 'fancy' than normal. They all had button up shirts on, expect Nico who was wearing a black shirt under a black leather jacket; that didn't surprise me one bit. But they all looked great. This group of friends was definitely gifted in the looks department.
"Everyone ready?" Liv asked, looking at everyone as they nodded. Everyone filed out of the house as Liv locked the door behind us.
Glancing around Liv's front yard I looked for Alex's camaro or Derek's truck but instead found a black Escalade parked by the curb.
"Who's car is that?" I questioned.
"Mine." Noah answered, twirling a pair of keys as he grinned at me. "Its the only car that will hold all of us. I'm not sitting in a car for two hours with Derek complaining about being cramped." I laughed totally picturing that scene.
"Good idea."
"Are you guys coming?" Nico's deep voice asked beside the car. With another smile at me Noah headed for his car. I hadn't realized Alex was still beside me until I started for the car and he appeared from the corner of my eye.
Alex still hadn't said a single word to me and surprisingly it made my chest start to ache. Suddenly all these thoughts flew through my head; did he not like what I was wearing, did he not want me to tag along?
Right before I stepped into the car the feel of something warm on my neck made me pause.
"You look really pretty." Alex suddenly whispered in my ear. His warm breath sending a shiver down my spine. Before I could even process his words he stepped away from me. Peaking over my shoulder I watched him stride around the front of the car towards the passenger seat.
If I thought my face couldn't get any redder I was wrong. When I finally pulled myself into the car my face was brighter than a beet. Thankfully no one seemed to notice as Noah pulled away from the car.
Alex's words kept playing on repeat in my head as we headed for Seattle. Butterflies erupted in my stomach when Alex looked over at me a small smirk playing on his lips. Quickly glancing away I knew one thing for certain...Alex was going to be the death of me.
