Chapter 35.

Choosy sat dumbstruck as the head Kazdani added new pieces to the jigsaw puzzle, that had remained unsolved for so long.

Fertility had always been an issue, but fighting aliens was a bigger one for the IAI. They replicated special animal genes, fit them in humans, made their own little army.

Brilliance.

She had always been just a pawn, like in chess, moved around harshly by the players and here the enemy was, right infront of her. She wonderered if they would strike her down or give her just one last chance.

"Why.. why are you telling me this?" She asked, the tinge of curiosity almost nonexistent on her confused face.

"Because, you can help us out."

She laughed out loud, awkwardly shaking her chin. "I am the enemy, remember?"

The Kazdani joined in her laugh, "Enemy's enemy is the best friend, yeah?"

Choosy frowned. He wasn't supposed to know English and he was using phrases like they were his cups of tea.

"Oh. Don't mind. My microphone is good with English." He said, as if reading the thoughts going through her head. She blushed, looking down.

He looked down in the same instant, smiling lightly to himself. "Oh, and I am Cheston. I lead this crew."

The air lightened down as the girl smiled.

The Kazdanis had a really weird way of taking people by surprise.

Choosy was shocked even more when she heard herself mutter cheerfully, "So, how do we do this?"

Cheston gleamed with joy.

She never knew people could be more cunning than IAI. The Kazdanis proved her wrong, more royally. They had the most spotless plan that was ever made in the history of the universe.

Choosy couldn't keep her mouth shut all through the ordeal. Every single new detail impressed her by miles and bounds.

At the end of the meeting, which consisted of just her, Cheston and Uan in the elaborately decorated hall, she asked in a rather tensed voice, "So, if I do this, do you promise me that me and my friends would be safe and sound? And that no one else would be harmed except for the heads of the IAI who would simply be thrown out, be eradicated and not killed?"

Cheston liked how selfless this girl could be. Each of her words screamed out the fact that she was not born human.

"Definitely," he replied, smiling slightly more than what his emotionless face would allow him to. "We also promise that we would not indulge in any of your affairs and would take care of Earth, like its our own home."

Choosy nodded in approval. She never knew she could make decisions with such agility. She didn't even waste time thinking. Just by taking a deep breath, she knew what was to be done.

There was no difficulty choosing the right side, she thought.

"We don't have much time, Choosy. Our ruling heads would arrive in less than an Earth week. Get yourself ready. We are fighting something huge. You play the intruder well, everything is going to go good," he chided in, sounding dull all of a sudden. That was the only instinct when she thought the grey beard suited him well. His voice was way too cheery to be old.

She glanced a final look at the map that lay before her. The plan. It was funny how her life happened to change so suddenly. One day it was revolving around Ey and next day, she was making  plans to hand over Earth to aliens who had screwed heads.

"Oh, and what are the screws for?" She added, breaking the thoughtful silence that had started to hang around, all of a sudden, in the rather ghostly room.

"These?" He asked, slowly caressing his head with his gloved hand. "We use these to photosynthesise."

Choosy was too flabbergasted to mutter a word more.

After the meeting, all that she remembered was being knocked out by a pungent smell. When she regained back her consciousnesses, she was back in her room in the IAI, having been lost in sound sleep under carefully laid blankets.

She couldn't understand how they could take her outside earth and bring her back to where she was, in a matter of just hours.

She was going to come to a conclusion that it was a dream that had been too real, when a message appeared on the
textureless, invisible screen they had pasted over her left hand.

"We have portals. They work well when it comes to transport," it said.

They really could read thoughts, she thought, sighing to herself.

Deep in thought, she almost didn't see Trig coming into the room anf standing by her bed. She was shaken out of her train of thought when he announced, "Subject II, Transformation Canine Project, is awake. Professor Dial thinks you would want to know."

She jumped up in response, almost involuntarily and sprinted out of the room like a mad dog. Only when she was half past the way did she realize she had forgotten the list, and then she ran back into the room with double the speed.

She had never felt so much fluffed with energy in a long long time and to know that she would talk to Ey, again, in a matter of minutes and would have him hug her and caress her head were all reasons that made her run faster and faster with each passing second.

She grabbed the paper in a rush, almost crushing it in the process. It required her a full second to regain back her composure before she turned around and ran back to the transformation wing with a velocity that was too inhuman to be true.

Which name would he choose?

Would he ask her for her opinion?

Would he ask her to choose for him?

Would he talk to her through the telepathy link or would he prefer his mouth instead?

There were a million questions that went through her head and her heart was craving for answers.

Both the bitch and the human inside her head were sitting in silence, waiting in anticipation for more news.

The human was dying to know how handsome would he look. The animal was at the verge of breakind down, overcome with craving and love. Poor emotional thing.

Choosy didn't pause to take a breath infront of the wing. She was too devoid of love for so long to wait for a second more.

Her heart broke into a million pieces when she was shoved away by the fat nurse, with an unbelievably large amount of force. "We are detoxifying the room. Come back in the evening." She spat out, eying the girl with mild curiosity.

"No. Professor Dial has given me permission. Please."

"Don't lie, girl. Now take your leave. This is dangerous for you!" She warned, shoving her harder.

"I don't care. Please," Choosy begged. The nurse shook her head, disappointed with her own helplessness.

Before the door closed before Choosy, she firmly handed over the paper to the nurse. "Give this to him," she muttered, two large drops of tears streaming down her face.

If you waited so long, four hours is nothing, dear. The human, the only sensible part of her advised.

Before she turned away to retire to her room, she tried so hard to peek a glance at the boy who was soundly sleeping in his room. And she almost succeeded.

She didn't know if what she saw was her brain playing tricks on her.

But Ey looked like the boy she had once killed.
